I decided to try out the game over the next couple of weeks and I've had a couple of questions but the official boards won't let me post there since I haven't paid them any money yet. I was hoping that someone here might be able to help me:
Is there a way to put my weapon away without having to open up the Inventory screen and setting it to Unequip via the radial dial? I really don't like the idea of running around with a weapon in my hand all the time.
This leads to my next question:
I dragged my weapon to the hotbar which allows me to Equip / Unequp from there but the rotating icon is driving me crazy. I have the option set to disable the rotation but apparently it doesn't count for the hotbar.
I hate to say it but this sort of issue, no matter how little it may seem to others, is just enough to get me to move along to something else. Carrying a weapon all the time isn't my preference and the icon rotation gives me motion sickness.
Any help would be highly appreciated since I'd really like to enjoy this game.
Thanks.

One of the things about SWG that got me hooked early on and keeps me playing to this day is the powerful in game macro system.
There is a section on Macros in the following guide: Guide: Combat Preparation
Using a macro, you can drop your weapon in a different toolbar pane, then bind that slot to a key on your keyboard. When you press the key, the macro will switch to the same toolbar pane as your weapon, select it, then switch back to your main toolbar in under 0.2 seconds.
There is an example macros.txt in the post that you can download which wil give you a load of macros that you can bind to keys like this.
I hope that helps.
In other words...
No.
There is no default key command to hide/holster your weapon. If you want that ability, you need to write your own program create a macro and program it yourself.
Well, there is. You could just drop your weapon into the first slot on toolbar and press 1.
This person didn't want to do that due to a dislike for rotating icons on the toolbar, so I suggested a method of calling the slot from another pane via a keypress.
I can't believe you can't post on the forums without a paid subscription. You should be able to just register. But I've been there so long now I don't know for sure.

It will still "swap" to that other pane, even if for only a second. Right? All he's really doing by doing it that way is "hiding it" from immediate view.
Thank you for the replies. I appreciate the insight and the macro system will help greatly.
I don't mind the icon on a hotbar that isn't always in view since the spinning won't affect me even if it comes into view for a second or two. So this is exactly what I was looking for.
As far as registering for the forums...done that...logged in and still can't post in any way what so ever. Many MMO boards have a trial section for trial accounts to post and ask questions or respond to others but SWG doesn't. I find that rather discouraging for a game that should be doing everything possible in order to secure new accounts. O'well. At least I found what I was looking for here.
Once again, thanks.

0.1 of a second, your eye can barely register it. The only way you know it is working is that you get a "ding" sound as the macro clicks the toolbar slot and the weapon is unequipped/equipped. It's pretty seemless, I have pretty much every key on my keyboard bound to a macro of some kind and it makes SWG effortless to play.
I thought trial accounts could post in the Tansarii Station (New Player Forum). I'm checking on that now.
