Build your dream mmorpg from current mmorpgs

I would have

PvP from planetside with added purpose from shadowbane

Skill system from EvE-online

Player economy from EvE too (best I seen so far)

Town conquering and stuff like that from shadowbane (never played it, but it seem rather intresting)

Server capacity of Wish (even though its not really current mmorpg and is in beta plus they arent supporting as many they promise yet)

  • DekothDekoth Member Posts: 474

    Hmm interesting..

    Environments from EQ2

    Charcter model style from FFXI

Skill chain system usefulness and importance from FFXI

    PVP from UO before T2A

    job/class system from EQ

however Eliminate levels, and use the Skill based system from the regretablly cancelled UOX project.

Lineage II with better customer service, no bots or adena sellers and more character customisation. Basically a perfect version of Lineage II.

    I would have...

Character creation from City of Heroes - definitely the best out there to date. The different costumesm facial stuff and more is simply amazing.

The Auction House from World of Warcraft - Very nice system, only flaw is access limited to IronForge.

The ability to change professions like in Star Wars Galaxies - Nothing more frustrating than picking a profession based on beta posts and web page hype only to later find its nothing like what you read. This in my opinion is the single most important aspect to any mmorpg's ability to appeal for years.

The housing in Star Wars Galaxies - Housing in EQ2 sucked, whats the point of having a house if someone cant walk by and see your loot without an invite ? Plus the locations are controlled. Granted SWG went too far in allowing players to plant homes next to points of interest but otherwise neat concept. I like the fact that I can scout around and find the perfect spot near water and mts and put multiple different types of houses there.

The Merchant npc system in Star Wars Galaxies - Love the fact that I could have an npc in my own house selling my goods and loot. No other system in any mmorpg has such a great player friendly economy because of it.

The quest system in World of Warcraft - So many quests to do its almost overwhelming. They are clever in that they lead you to places to explore and give decent storylines and loot.

The graphics of EQ2 - Although I thought they were a bit bland and didnt look that great to me everyone seems to feel they are the best so I'll give the benefit of doubt on this one. I ran it on a amd 3000 with ati 9800 128mb card and 1 gig corsair 3500 ram and it looked pretty lifeless but maybe thats my system ?

Crafting - Tough one to call, SWG definitely has the edge overall but there are some things I like about Horizons system as well. The gathering in Horizons was neat to do like cutting down trees for wood. In other games like EQ2 you can tell its an afterthought from devs as they just lazily threw a log on ground for you to collect from.

Call me picky, but I doubt I'll ever see the perfect mmorpg in my eyes. I dont understand why companies like Sony take a great idea like player housing in SWG and completely ruin it in EQ2. So I doubt the perfect mmorpg will ever happen....but Im dreaming Fallen Earth will come close hehe

I think the interactiveness of the EQ2 Crafting process gives it an edge over the SWG one.  While, yes, it's possible to macro both systems, I think the depth of the one EQ2 offers is deeper than the SWG one.  However, I liked the resource gathering in SWG as opposed to the EQ2 method.  Yes, you could just place a machine and have it grind out your resources, but you still had to pay attention to it because you don't want it to burn up and the resources can move.  But it doesn't suck up alot of your play time to really make that much of a difference.

Well the reason is because they use different dev teams for each game.

    OK here it goes

Character visual creation like CoH, character profesional creation like Anarchy Online.

Character advancement:  Combination of Ultima Online, more you do it better you get, along with Eve-Online style, get better offline through skill training.

PvP:  Unrestricted Meaningful PvP where there is real reward for killing an enemy and real punishment for killing a non enemy.  Land Grab style of Faction vs Faction gameplay.

Quests:  Generated in Instanced Zones, only some static quests

This MMORPG will own the market:

    Not so complicated like WoW
    Anarchy Online ARK (volunteer CS)
    EQ2 graphic engine
    WoW art
    Realm VS Realm (frrom DAoC)
    Monthly in-game changes (AC, AC2)
    Deep immersion (EQ1)
    Community based (Ultima Online)
Fast paced combat (AO, WoW, CoH)
Its going to be named Ultima World of Ever Anarchy City : Dark Age Heroes

    • EverQuest 1 soul
    • Lineage 2 character models
    • Star Wars Galaxies character customization
    • World of Warcraft world design and approachability
    • DAoC PVP
    • Middle Earth grittiness (in the movies)
    • Asheron's Call 1 skill diversity
    • EverQuest 2 scope and crafting system

    Did I forget anything?

Well I dont really know as I dont play many newer games, but from what Ive written, and from a rpg ;) :

NON COMBAT skills- like RS, I loved the way like u could improve evrything as far as u wanted and beeing every skills usefull, not to speak of the fact that u really had to get the items u need from its source(wood from a tree, ore from a rock....)

COMBAT skills- just like D2, perfect(1.10 is even more perfect :D). I loved it. U received an extra skill point per lvl, u need to have a small electric ray or a small fireball before u could use a large electric burst or a huge meteor... what I mean is the skill tree system, its the best Ive ever seen.

Character customization- CoH. Never played but from what I hear it seems almost unlimited siuts and so... super nice

Player Economy- I like the player store system some games have, like RYL(Im not saying it was a good economy :P). I really like to be able to take a bath and when I come bakc have some more $$$.

graphics- Dark and Light, they seem thee best.

combat system- something like and action game where u MUST have skill to be any good, no POINT 'n Click, or even those fake action systems(u just walk around with the Keyboard and click with the mouse to attack....)

    System Requirements- Pong, lolololol :D

For crafting i would take A Tale in the Desert (atitd.net), add some tools and make it a little harder.

Graphics - The Matrix Online (from the pics looks real good) as well as DnL's long long sight distance

I'd take Horizon's plot, give the AI an edge and make them actually fight back and gain/lose land then id take the Saga of Ryzom's guild system (where other guilds can destroy your place and take it), mix it with Planetside's system for learning to use a weapon and let the games begin.

    My perfect MMORPG:

Lineage 1 isometric view and gameplay, keep the 2D graphics but improve them alot

Add the realm PvP combat of DAOC, along with realm points/abilities, also add the huge class selection of DAOC

Add the huge number of quests from WOW

Yes that is my perfect game and if I was rich I swear I'd invest my money in making that game

    /starts dreaming

Character and weapon/armor graphics from EQ2

Gameworld from (pre-Luclin) EQ1 (MOST IMPORTANT CHOICE)

    Combat from EQ1

    Spell-casting from EQ1

    Death penalty from EQ2

    Crafting from DAOC

Racial abilities from EQ1 or WOW

    Character Stats from EQ2

Quest System from EQ1 (quests should be mysterious, and hidden)

    Class System from EQ1

The perfect MMORPG would be if Blizzard bought over the rights to Star Wars Galaxies. First they would delete all Jedi players from the game and couldn't care less if that minority of people cancelled their accounts, 90% of the other players aren't Jedi!

Then they would get rid of Doctor buffs and ban anyone that dares charging to get buffed.

Then they would ban all AFK-buff-bots, all AFK-macroers that are camping the infinite mob area near Coronet and other small cities.

Then they would nerf Fencer and get rid of all it's sick defences or would raise the required Skill points so people stop getting Fencer only for it's uber defences when combined with other professions.

They would make Bounty Hunters actually more useful.

They will add more content for professions that have been lacking content ever since launch (like Smuggler!!!!!!)

They will add Armor Certification so that no newbie can beg for money, collect enough begged money, buy a set of 80% kinetic resistance helmet, chest and boots Composite or Ubese Armor without having any professions whatsoever.

Then they will make wearing Bicep, Bracer, Glove and Pants armor actually useful instead of just fashion and slowing down your character. Damage will not just be redirected to your Helmet, Chest and Boots!

They will actually fix the Combat Balance instead of adding useless crap, or helping the Jedi minority have a more fun time playing SWG than the 90% of the other population that aren't Jedi.

Yeah... that's my perfect MMORPG. Star Wars Galaxies, but owned by Blizzard. SOE can go f*** themselves and stick with their Everquests.

Everything that you said but with the housing of Everquest 2, current graphics of Guild Wars, community of Dark Age of Camelot, and "Gore" we need gore like when you die if you get shocked by a lightning spell you are chared and leave a black indentation upon the burnt foliage around you.

Family Guy: Chris: What's a library dad? Peter: Well Chris, it's where homeless people go to shave and B.M. lets go inside. imageMan! I love that show!image

My perfect MMO would be original EverQuest with EQII's graphics & Quest system, original EQ's current tradeskill system, CoH's laglessness & Character creation system along with Horizons's REAL original concept behind the way dragons were supposed to work.  PVP would be limited to special PVP servers or spcial areas on blue servers as it is now.  Oh yeah, and just about anyone's CS in place of SoE's would be an improvement ><   And of course, in a perfect world there would be no way to buy/sell plat outside the game which made the ecnomy go to shit image
