what i think a vast majority of the people that have posted here dont realize is, people paid to pre-order the game. with the pre-order came the option to be in the beta testing. also, SV said what to expect when entering the beta and how they were going to implement stuff in parts. so with that, noone paid to beta test. they paid to pre-order the game. simple concept i know but it seems the mongoloids on this forum dont understand that.

This subject has been beaten to death and ppl just keep coming claiming that its a pay to play beta. I seriously sorta wish that SV would restrict the beta to people with 2 rep or better on their official forums not just anyone so you actually have to work for it, than maybe this whole pay to play beta bullshit would die out.

people in this thread know exactly what actually occurred
you could not get into beta without paying to be in beta - - - hence you paid to be in beta (seems simple now don't it)
the above should be enough even for the most blinded by the light fanbois but
if you had been a daily reader of the mortal online website forums you would know that beta would not have occurred unless people paid to play beta with a chance of getting an actual boxed copy of the game sometime in the "near" future - hence you paid FOR the beta
is that enough now - lordy
and again, yes most people saw the posting that fanbois always copy and paste during our little discussions about paying for beta and getting refunds
what most people didn't realize is that they were serious - - - this game had not been tested at all, from server stability with more than 10 people on at any one time to no features and when one IS implemented you find that it is in its most basic state purportedly for testing purposes (even though they say that individual feature is actually complete elsewhere) but to any casual observer of this game you can see that they are programming on the fly so to speak
all that is fine but they are still insisting that this game will be released at the end of the year and i for one dread what december brings for this game

first off, im not a fanboi or whatever you want to call it. i dont even plan on playing this game and i just happened to read this thread and ive read a few things on the website about the game. secondly, where did you get all of this nice information about how they are running the game and who has or has not tested it and when? hell, i could have made all of that up on my own and claimed i know everything about the game. do you work for SV? i seriously doubt it.
i do so enjoy having discussions with those that are quite capable of typing but don't seem to be able to read - i really do
anyway a little light "reading" on their website and their irc channel is enlightening - even more so when you have done just that on a daily basis for a year - give or take
and by the way - i have been quite the fan (but haven't quite gone over that critical edge) of this game as it was presented until recently where again if you can read you will see that the "core" game as promised is being further, uhm, cored
I'm not totally sure of the arguement here. 'Pay to beta', 'Pay for pre-order with free beta'. It's all semantics.
Only a fucking retard paid the inflated box cost to beta this game without fully understanding the state of the game and stage of development, which had been made very, very, very clear by the devs when they offered the opportunity in the first place. They did not try to blinker anyone and when I purchased my digital download copy I did it with the full knowledge that there may even be a chance the game won't make it to retail. Also personally I had NO intention of playing beta for a long while.
Now, there were some (there always are) who don't like to play by the rules so upon ordering and trying the beta, once they've finished their excursion they did the same thing they do in ALL recent releases, scream bloody murder and do a chargeback. They wanted, for some reason, to try it in a unfinished and largely unplayable state - Why? Fuck knows, some people have brain issues.
SV needed the cash to finish the game, they said this, how much clearer can they make it? In exchange you get to try a beta build. Don't start fucking crying because you didn't want to fork out the cash for some free play, you pay or you don't. The OP asked 'pay to beta?', yes. It's pretty much how it is from now on there may be a few competition keys closer to release on all new games but by and large be prepared for pretty much all betas to be paid for from now on.
Do we like it? No! If I have to would I be more willing to pay to beta some indie dev making a game that sounds half decent? Or, would I like to further fill the coffers of soe, bliz, turbine, funcom (who actually could afford to do a free pulic beta, and are chargeing for not other reason than do drain those few extra pennies) who are about to release yet another *<insert generic thempark here>* clone. Nah, the SV 's of this world will get my cash each time, who knows one day I might get lucky and get a game I actually enjoy.

No one knew the state of the game ahead of time. Everyone was told the game was ready for testing and they had all these awesome new features ready to test. It turned out the features were sill on paper, and not even the most core of core mechanics the massiveLOD they brag about being innovative (I'm beginging to think Innovative is Sweedish for sample template), doesn't work even in house on raw let alone on a functioning client. Their excuse for not having anything in game is this massiveLOD system. Lack of mobs and features and landscape and content it all hinges on this massiveLOD system that doesn't even work for them in house and they can't figure out why...

Sounds pretty convenient doesn't it.
Weird, I knew, I must be buddah or something? So you're basically saying, I was the only person who knew? The game was ready for testing and they even stated, prior to me purchasing, what they wanted to test. So again what is your point? Can you read? Have you ever been in a real beta?
Just out of interest, did you buy the game?
----- The person who is certain, and who claims divine warrant for his certainty, belongs now to the infancy of our species.
Its true, they are in a bit of financial trouble and offered pre-orders early in order for people to "invest" in the games devleopment (and perhaps calm investors who might have been questioning the project's soundness). Beta testing was a perk tossed to those willing to shell out the money, and when you think about it, by giving the testers a vested interest they are likely to get a far better quality of testing and bug reporting than the average person looking for a free trial. Don't begrudge those who chose to particiapate, they are helping build a game they really want to see succeed and prosper, nothing wrong with that at all. If OP doesn't want to be part of the process, opt out like I did, and wait for the finished release.
Granted Kyleran, but haven't we all seen this before? This type of action has ended up leaving a bad taste in peoples mouths before. Or should I say in a state of Mourning?... Given what has gone before, this does not bode well. Undercapitalization is a capital crime in this industry. Its been the down fall of more games than I care to remember. In any event I hope it works out for all concerned.
This game sounds like its not even in ALPHA stage if lots stuff are still on paper. Beta is for polishing...not "finishing"....geez
This is why I dont trust anything on these forums, people come here with claims but they give no proof, the chances of features still being on paper is low to none.

And you base this upon what evidence?
Because of countless times ive debated with ppl here and they cannot provide proof of what they claim. Most ppl here judge off of speculation and nothing more. I have no problems with a debate but when people come into the forums and call this game shitawesome and have no proof besides a glimpse of beta that they claim to have seen or the fact that they claim the game is a scam which with the amount of time and money SV has put into the game it far outwieghts the ranting of a few people that don't know a real beta and are pissed that they cant play the full game.
I do not dig the pay to play beta thing at all. If I was going to buy the game, and as part of my purchase I could play a early beta (ala Aion) then that would be fine. However there should be no fee associated with being involved with a Beta if someone is on the fence and may not end up buying the game.
Do you listen to yourself? Do you not see how selfish you are being?
Beta isn't for people to try out the game for 5 minutes and ditch it after seeing the bugs. It is for TESTING. *gasp*
You described the very reason why they decided to attach beta to pre-ordering the game.

So you are making stuff up based on some desire to "get back" at people you feel have lied to you? And revenge justifies your statements.
@I knew it - yes I bought the game. I also got a full refund. I still have beta access because SV can't ban remove or alter accounts without breaking the whole database. (yet another in a long list of reasons to stay away from MO)

Exactly, gamers today think that beta should be a polished game with all features presented to them as soon as they log into the game. People this is not a beta, it is a glorified marketing scheme that is all.

Huh, im confused how am I taking revenge I stated that this isn't the forums to trust everything you read because most of the time everything is speculation, what exactly did I make up, please elaborate.
Also elaborate on how you somehow came to this conclusion that the reason SV hasn't banned you is because it would screw up the database. Like I said speculation, unless you can link a post from a Dev claiming this is the reason than its nothing but speculation.

That guy is so full of it it's a miracle there's still room in his body to breathe some air.
Of course they can alter accounts, close or open them - they do it all the time by accepting new testers.
You're an obvious troll, do you have nothing better to do than trolling the forums of games you don't even play and you obviously know nothing about ? You must have a very pathetic life if that's the only way to entertain yourself.

the game is in the condition we were told it was in before pre-ordering.
i take a few weeks off between my weeks of beta testing so that i can see the big differences in the game as each new client is able to be tested.
its not a sham, wait for nda to drop if you are tight on cash.
Same here, I havent been on Beta sicne Block C went live, mainly due to work commitments,
Most of the Beta testers knew exactly what they were going to be doing in the Beta, sadly some of the 'younger' players have been brought up on teh WAR type beta which was basically just a free trial of a 'nearly' complete game.
True Beta is nasty adn gritty, and bug ridden, adn incomplete as it comes, because we are testing the systems to see if they work, not because we want to run around griefing other testers for the lulz and doing stupid stuff

hmmm, hadn't noticed this one when I posted before. Is this a joke? Aion's early beta was a year ago, seeing as it was released in Korea in November 2008. All people have been testing recently is the American & European localizations of the game. Comparing this to Mortal Online's current status is an unfair comparison.

The same war beta that started with 6 class (3 for each faction) 2 zone and a place holder for levelling mechanism and a shitload of bug?
Yeah defintely all the feature were enabled from the start.....

Ok... wow I was in the Beta before release, was the game playable yes. This is what a bunch of people are trying to say, you guys are so used to getting a actual game in the beta phase that you are like wtf a bug this is Open Beta there shouldn't be a bug. Its freaking retarded. If you guys want to play the game, wait till release its that simple, stop thinking of any phase of beta as a free look at the game because its not the finished item unless stated otherwise by the developers.

This game sounds like its not even in ALPHA stage if lots stuff are still on paper. Beta is for polishing...not "finishing"....geez
This is why I dont trust anything on these forums, people come here with claims but they give no proof, the chances of features still being on paper is low to none.

You're beta-testing, they're ALLOWING you to pay for the game.
vote with your dollar
That guy is so full of it it's a miracle there's still room in his body to breathe some air.
Of course they can alter accounts, close or open them - they do it all the time by accepting new testers.
You're an obvious troll, do you have nothing better to do than trolling the forums of games you don't even play and you obviously know nothing about ? You must have a very pathetic life if that's the only way to entertain yourself.

No need for personal attacks here. Thanks.

Ok... wow I was in the Beta before release, was the game playable yes.
