IDK I enjoyed playing it better than WoW, EQ2, LOTRO and I'm not a huge fan of Fantasy games at all even though I play them (it makes up the majority of what's out there). The lore and theme of this game is pretty original.  I could see playing this game for a year or so, till an expansion.

Have no interest in the game myself but pre orders dont mean jack nor do initial box sales. How many games in the past couple years have had huge preorders/initial sales only to crash and burn within 3 months?

I do believe WAR broke some records at release, and see where that went?

Actually the overall basis of the lore is a ripoff of the world a character in an H.G. Wells story travelled to, which was separated into those above ground, the Eloi, and those below ground who had mutated due to removal from the surface, the Morlocks. Also, the theme of Dragons destroying the planet has been done, done, and done again.

I pre-ordered, but will be cancelling if GameGuard continues to crash every 15 minutes upon launch. I hope it doesn't, as I'm excited to play a balanced game, but I don't see my problems being fixed so you can tack it down to 299,998.

I hope that good number of people paid close attention to the terms of that pre-order. since they gave a pre-order beta key you've already used the product and they won't let you return it.

How  quickly we forget that which Age of Conan tried to teach us. That is, selling vast amounts of the software does not equal longevity 3 months after release. Time will tell but my money is on history repeating.

Im thinkign along those same lines. after aion open beta I logged into wow and attempted to play, but I just had no interest. during the open beta apparently my raiding guild had lost enough people to farm out to other guilds. Most of them had the same reason, burnout. and I'm bored tonight, and just cant think of a thing in wow I could be doing that I haven't done before. Its like always going back to the same ex-girlfriend. You've been there and you know her well, but sh'll still be there when you stop checkin out Hot Tanya too.

I told some friends at work that I'll be playin Aion and they said, "you'll be back for the expansion". But I dunno about that. that thign about new paint on an old house. Blizzard is still adding things, visual things, loot, but never addressed their biggest problem, which cannot be changed without messing up everything. the AI is stupid, plain and simple. they can't overhaul the AI without changing the entire game and its encounters. Their other omission, which the gamer world flocks to is character customization. Endgame in wow is the same as the original EQ, everyone looks the same, and wears the same stuff. (oh wait, my left nut is green and yours is blue, I told joo we're not the same you noob!) LOL.

It's interesting to me how many people (who probably like to brag how hardcore they are) canceled after playing 15-20 levels in Open Beta without even reaching the meat of the PvP experience. I'm sorry, but there are so many people who play MMORPGs while hating the mechanics that define the entire genre (quests, grinds, grouping requirements, crafting, lore,RP,etc). Anything that isn't a glorified FPS mechanic, in other words.

I swear it's like most people who hang out on MMORPG sites are closet-MMORPG haters who just haven't come out and admitted it to themselves. All these cranky old 'MMO-burnouts' should just get on with their lives already. Just because a game didn't appeal to you doesn't mean it sucks. How many people here hate WoW, LotR, EvE, or the other games that are succeeding in appealing to a specific type of gamer? Does that mean those games are terrible? They may be terrible for YOU, but obviously enough people like them that they can make a living.

The secret to success in the post-WoW world is to FIND A NICHE MARKET AND EXPLOIT THE HELL OUT OF IT. If Aion can just do that, it will make a place for itself. it doesn't have to 'kill WoW' or have millions of players, or have revolutionary new concepts, or do any of the other things people seem to demand of new MMORPGs nowadays. It just has to make a profit and satisfy a specific type of player, and THAT'S IT.

If you like RvR and a more 'group-focused' MMORPG experience, Aion has things that might appeal to you. I know there are many 'oldschool' MMORPG players that might enjoy that. Feel free to try it out in a few months, if nothing else.

Though I agree, that bragging about pre-order numbers is pretty stupid. They don't mean anything.

we dont need to spend hard erned cash expacially in the coming financial crisis in the next few month , to know the game it self isnt enough lol,im sorry if you have to spend your $ to know the game isnt enough but lot of us player knows that until ncsoft show their comitement to that game by organising in game event and not do like they did to tabula rasa im sorry but its our right to doubt  ncsoft

if they dont let the game sail by itself and make stuff happens in aio a la gw or whatever they come up with perfect

everybody will play aion joyously but if they leave it alone with just the player it will do same as war as aoc  etc

When I said that I meant it hadn't been done in an MMO before. As for Gameguard I had no issues with it on either one of my computers. I think all the GG issues may be on the user end, most people seem to be fine.

I lost my faith in numbers after WAR dropped down to less than 200k subscribers few months after launch.

But I'm quite sure the people who have pre-ordered Aion will stick with it. Especially since the Closed Beta involved 6 weekends and OB was 1 week. So in a way the pre-orderers have seen the game and liked it. Of course the truth unreveals later on but just the long PvE grind in this game will most likely keep people entertained. For me, this last week of waiting is pain, same pain I had with WAR launch 8)

after reading all the negative comments i only have this to say.  Thank god you will not be playing my game, on my server talking about how "hardcore" you think you are and how anything sucks that doesn't fit your standards.  One less person bitching about pointless crap in general chat.

I doudt that the three friends of yours who preordered the game with you on your part-time GA position shift would constitute "half" of the preorders cancelling.......rant off...sorry WoW fanboy.

Gamers who enjoy pvp will stick around, garenteed. So I guess I'd say your totally wrong LOL. Aion will be around for along time whether you enjoy it or not.

I'm willing to bet you're wrong.  Until something comes down the pipe that brings a completely new model that can actually appease these next gen gamers that are unhappy with the current model (And that looks much later than sooner) then Aion is one of the most polished newer games out there even if it is a new take on an old model.  That's more than WoW can say as even with their expansions it's just revisiting the old and making minor content changes using the same "engine" if you will.  Combat is the same, instances the same, phat loot is the same, all of the things that you will utlimately be reminded of after a few months of the expansion being out will remind you why you thought about leaving before the expansion came out.  It's just a way of prolonging the inevitable.

Now an argument can be made that Aion will get there too and while that may ultimately be true the difference is that with Aion we don't know when that will be and how that will look.  WoW is a known where Aion is an unknown and there are many more willing to explore the unknown than to tread back on the same old path they've been up and down so many times no matter how many curves you try to create in the path.

Yeah what I meant by that is the game just isn't enough for me to dedicate another few years too when we will be getting games a lot more up to date over the next 2-3 years. A few friends of mine were in the same boat (pre-ordered then cancel) I work at gamestop and we have had several people come in and cancel their preorders (about half the people that actually ordered it).

It just seems like there are a lot more people canceling preorders of this game than normal.

I can see that.  The thing though is I think that is a toss up because the choices that exist today are few and far between.  You have the WoW expansion which as I've said new paint on and old house but that being said some people may decide to wait out the old house until something that looks closer to what they want comes out.  But the gamble with that is you invest even more time into a game that will eventually lead you back to feeling like a waste of time.  Now Aion could also lead you to that same point but I'd be much happier investing time into something new and unknown than going back to the same old thing, but that's just my personal view.  I too want the next gen stuff as much as the next person but until then I'll get my fix in a polished game with a new take.

It should be as simple as we like MMOs, we know what we like, we have choices.  We play what we like and we don't play what we don't like.  What gets silly is when everyone talks about what they won't play and they don't like.  That energy could be better spent talking up the games you do like to play so that the devs get that positive feedback.  Believe me there isn't a single person here who doesn't know the negative feedback because that's like 99% of the posts.

You like it? Pick up the game and pay the subsciption until you don't.  Don't like it, find something else.  Not rocket science.  So you had to put down a few bucks for the beta...whoopie.  But anyone who is cancelling or signing up because of the feedback here is pretty ridiculous.  The only way you're going to know how you will like the game or not is by YOU playing it.

Agreed. I only started checking these forums this year but I don't take any reviews of MMOs seriously. Everyone here is either a fanboy or troll with some in between who just enjoy playing MMOs. I used to post here but now all I do is read and laugh to myself at most of the people posting...some people seriously have too much time on their hands LOL.

I believe two years ago if anyone stated that a Korean made game would sell 300k+ preorders in the west not too many people would believe it. Korean games and games with gameguard attached are a hard sell over here. Hopefully they can get rid of gameguard and rake in another +30% subscribers and change the mentality the gaming community has towards Korean MMO's. Aion has proven that the Koreans can make good casual MMO's too.

Now I see people in this thread believing Aion will get smushed when, as a Financial Advisor for small businesses myself can see NCSoft is raking in the dough. 3.5 million subscribers in the east last published and even though games make more per western subscriber, most games would be happy to have 10% of that.

I wouldn't go as far as that. I think most were, but not all. I was having the constant "The Game or Gamegaurd was modified" error, I did everything said to make it stop, and then some, still nothing. Then a patch came out a few days after OB and that seemed to fix it. Only problem I had after that was getting into the game, most of the time I would type in my login and pass, hit enter, and it would just sit there. Eventually it would disconnect or I had to close it manually. But once I got in, I was no longer disconnected.

I have played Shadowbane, FFXI, DAoC, and 3+ years of World of warcraft and I can say just from the open Beta that Aion is a great game. The only complaint i have with it is the character movements seem a bit constrained compared to other MMO's but I love the game and have pre-ordered and plan on keeping it. Also I have to wonder how many people that actually post or go into the Beta of new games are actually employee's of companies like Blizzard sent in to rag the new game and praise their game. Lot's of bashing on this forum and while in beta so many people spend a majority of their time ragging Aion and Bragging up other games....just something to think about.

Blizzard have nothing to worry about in AION, if they do lose a few subs to AION, most will return as they did with AOC and WAR after the first month, those that don't will return for patch 3.3 when they can face off against Arthus and/or the xpac next year.

As to the theory that game companies such as Blizzard sign up to beta and these forums just to troll a game I find that very very hard to believe, its just players that just as with WAR and AOC was hoping for much more in AION and for them it did not deliver.

You cannot escape the fact that AION is yet another Korean MMO and such games have a bad rep in west, slapping a monthly fee on a F2P game does not make it any different from the 100's of other F2P Korean MMO's all of which look like they are made with some kind of MMO construction kit.  Just my opinion.

looking forward to it CB and OB were blasts :D

besides attempted to log in on my knight champion on WoW recently, even with lurky dancing i grew bored very quickly... game offered nothing new. Started a new character and realised the draenei female 2 handed bug was still there... switch to blood elf .. can't sit properly in silvermoon still. Went back to my knight champion and flicked through my achievements to realise 6 of them were still bugged.

sigh... signed onto WG the "open PvP", had to Q.. didn't get in... swiched to the new BG got bored with the inane PvP... then just went back to dalarn and exited.

    that bad.

i have a sudden urge to play Aion, gliding from elten with region chat filled with helpful, welcoming people... who are always giving co'ors and information freely without the crap  tagged on. Rifts and Abyss :)

can't wait... sounds better than playing WoW's 1-60 again with a different skin, complete with raggy making a return. (wasn't Onyxia enough to bring back, i remember taking her head along with poor marshall windsor.. must have been my imagination). WoW's running short of ideas... once arthas is dead, there IS nothing there... nothing new... nothing to keep me. I'd hand out epics, mounts and pets.. but lets face it the game already does that and with faction leaders on permanent farm...

    where's the feeling of epicness.
