In light of the recent news of server consolidations; which I personally feel are not a bad sign, I've decided to download and trial this game for the VERY first time for 14 days.
I've never played this game, but I have read MUCH about on it these forums and across the web. I'm done with WoW and am looking for something new and challenging. Really just sick of World of Warcraft.
Here's to new experiences.

The only challenge I found in the NGE was getting past bugged quests and NPCs. And the fact that there is few to no quests after doing the legacy and theme parks. There was actually one point I had to grind out 12-15 levels from the mission terminal (you can do 10 terminal missions a day, that gives you one level) and random mobs. It's an incomplete game.
As far as I know, the trial only gives you some crap space station to run around on. You dont get to experience the ugly truth that is SWG.
Just understand it is a game that gives you freedom, if you want the game can hold your hand with things like the Legacy quest, but what many people either have forgotten is that it's a game that offers freedom, for example you don't want to go into combat you may choose not to.
You can be a crafter and do just that.
But be aware if you really want to play Star Wars Galaxies it's a game only for those who have patients to actualy play a MMORPG as anyone who lacks patients or is this "I want it all and now crowed" will NOT enjoy this type of MMORPG.
Also keep in mind that I am the type of player that doesn't give much about combat in this genre as I enjoy all other aspects of this genre. I must say that the combat in SWG never really excited me.
If you never played the game there is so much to explore/discover, try to meet current players who might be helpfull, ignore the greed players as you are bound to see them, make sure you truly learn the game as the game even today can be somewhat overwelming.
Of course it could be that due to you playing WOW that you got used to a very limited playstyle, just don't bring that playstyle into SWG as it might get you disappointed.
Overall hope you have fun with the game, but expect it to be completely different then WOW, except of course you have like I said created a very limited playstyle then SWG might not be for you. Hope you give it a honost try as it's been a very long time since I saw someone being honost about the game.
You know, I would agree with you. But I believe that was the idea in pre-cu. If you plan on playing a combat class, you can't really be patient with this game anymore. The game was not originally designed to be this way, before you didn't quest or do terminal missions to progress. In Pre-cu you killed nothing more them mobs. Now it's broken quests and mobs, that are basically required if you wanna see any progression. It's nearly impossible to have patience with something that is not functioning properly. It's not a problem of the "I want it all and now crowd" it's the problem of "This game is how many years old and is still not as operational as a early beta product".
What you guys are talking about, is the reason why I stopped playing last year. I played the game for 4 years from from 2004 to 2008. In my opinion still one of the best games available, but its all old hat now. I've done it all in SWG and the new stuff, doesn't feel new or fresh.
That's why my next online Star Wars adventure will take play in The Old Republic. Where Sony has failed, Bioware is succeeding. Plus in Star Wars: The Old Republic, its in a timeline that has not been touched before. So the develpoers will have a lot of freedom and room to breath.
SWG had to try and stay within the line of the original trilogy movies and if it didn't line up perfectly, people would moan and groan on the forums.Where as with Bioware their 300 years after Knights of the Old Republic 2 and 3,000 years before the rise of Darth Vader and the Galactic Empire.
So its sad to say, but with the news of SWG shutting down 12 servers. SWG's days are numbered. Also if the rumors are true or not about Sony working on a Clone Wars cartoon MMO, using the Free Realms engine. I seriously doubt LucasArts would like Sony hold another license of theirs again, because of what has been going on for a little over 6 years now.
When we get back from where we are going, we will return to where we were. I know people there!
I haven't played the game in years, but I still miss the crafting system from SWG. I haven't found anything quite like it in any other game. I sometimes think of hopping back into the game just to get back into the crafting, but the rest of the game is so buggy and visually undeveloped compared to what I've become accustomed to that I know it would be a waste of time.
Does anyone know of a game with a crafting system like SWG?
Question:
How is them shutting down half their servers, due to lack of population, not a bad sign?
SWG is dead. Just close the lid on the coffin already. Please. Somebody. It's starting to stink.

Very simple answer: those servers where never very populated since the NGE, so nope not a bad sign at all, just a sign that it's abit late to be doing this, but hey better late then never.
And seriously SWG is not dead as a dead game is something that has the plugged puilled and no one is playing.

SOE ignored the pleas of players for years to merge servers. Soe was very content to make players pay $30 per character to move to a populated server.
Every other company I can think of in the last several years has made server mergers a top priority when they were needed. Soe was content to leave players stranded on dead servers since 2005? Even though the president of the company promised to make server mergers a top priority YEARS ago.

Yup, regardless that I do not play the game, there are people still playing the game.

Yup, but then again we already know SOE's greed, so no worry's that will never be forgotten though you seem to think so by repeating it so many times.

I can not believe you forgot how many times SOE tried to do server transfers and they often where very limited compared to the latest server transfers, people lost allot when they would transfer to another server, I really can not compare any other game to have such extensive character transfers, perhaps you ignore everything that is SWG? Or perhaps you can name me several other MMORPG where server transfers where done with little loss of: housing/resources/vehicles/items, remember all those different stats on resources, sorry most current MMORPG hardly have stats on them and if they have them it's very generic, the same way it's harvested is with most current MMORPG not really a loss when transfered to another server, with SWG this would be really a problem.
Even though the president of the company promised to make server mergers a top priority YEARS ago.
Yeah I am very glad that not every company acts like SOE in this regard but then again like already said most current MMORPG are in a way far more limited and easyer to replace that what might get lost with a transfer, you'r point is?
Hope you enjoy the game! Just try everything. There is SO much to do.
Welcome to SWG, Pherit!
