Cant really agree with any of the 3 points being the mistakes that turned WAR into what it is now.

Allowing unbalanced factions on a server is the #1 imo

  • bleyzwunbleyzwun Member UncommonPosts: 1,087

yeah...  those were the biggest mistakes.  lol

Well, no doubt, those three are actually valid mistakes that contributed somewhat to the game's lack of success, but as mentioned, other factors were much more damaging.

Two factions instead of three was a huge one, because with only two there was the issue of faction imbalance which Mythic chose to ignore. (I'd have put hard caps on each faction that could not be exceeded until the other side balanced)

Focusing the core PVP design too much on scenario based (aka "fair" combat) rather than improving on the open world RVR which made DAOC so popular was another huge issue, which actually drove away players such as myself.

Too many servers opened initially was another mistake, especially in a game which needed player interaction to be high in order to be fun.

Finally, the WOW-ification of the game, which in effect is why the 3 they listed came up. Game was too easy, PVE was uninspiring, no socialization as everyone's rushing through quests and if WOW can get away with poor crafting, Mythic figured that players won't mind really terrible crafting.  (Didn't the devs publically state something like, Orcs fight wars, Orcs don't sit home and craft baskets" or something like that.)

As time has gone on, it's gotten to the point where every time I read anything coming from a Mythic dev in regards to WAR, I have the uncontrollable urge to drive to their offices, and go around slapping random people across the back of the head, screaming "wake the F up!" until I'm hoarse.

I just do not understand how every damn person that has played this game has said the exact same thing; faction imbalance ruined the game, yet Mythic still hasn't clued in on that fact.  You can see people saying that *anywhere* there is a topic about WAR.  How are these bastards so oblivious to it?  It's almost like they've never actually played the game themselves.  Of all the MMOs I've played in the past 10 years, the only one I've ever been really, truly pissed about is WAR, and the FUBAR mess that Mythic made of that incredible IP.

men lot of stuff going on for mythic

biggest is their merge with bioware

and war upcoming release in korea

it makes me sad thet keep moding the game its not the game anymore

the 3 point he said are true they are major thing but he forgot one

interactivity,no mmo game right now have it

the one that is closest to it is guild wars

the one working furiously to make it a reality is blizzard(the unnamed mmo)

most of the other mmo are on the chapel praying for a mirracle

want to have a very bais idea of what i talk about there i go

http://galaxy4gamers.com/ not like that but to a very very very blurry  idea of a small way this basic concept will happen in futur mmo

that site is too hardcore but blizzard is working on somekind of very watered down version of this

and in my view winning prize in game will be part of futur mmo as live event

like athene  tried to do(failed unfortunayly  since techno isnt there or too costly yet

Eben you hit the nail right in the head. Mythic is clueless to what has happened to the game. "Imbalance"

When a game director is so out of touch that he can list PvE, economics, and blame beta testers as why the game failed, it just contribute to the real reason behind all this.

WAR failed because it has no real direction, because the game director has no clue whatsoever what the game is all about for the players.

PR and Ad dept always pushed the game has best RvR out there... Hell they even legally prevented Fury from using the term RvR. Had Mythic fired this clown, maybe the game would have seen some success.

Indeed. I am convinced that Hickman is a hack, and con artist.

No mention of performance as a key flaw in the game? Unbelievable.

good news to you then because the boss of mythic (war)took his leave he doesnt work there anymore

dont know if it will help war but that a deal ea or bioware/mythic will have to sort themselves

Jacobs was in charge of Mythic, but Hickman was and is in charge of Warhammer Online.

Bottom line is if you can't give the Warhammer ip the real love that it deserves then do not make the game.

this is pr BS, none of the reason mentioned have anything to do with why most of my guild and myself quit the game.

for me it was the laggy crashing server whenever you reached the End Game content that killed it, i have 5 max lvl toon in this game every time i reached the end game it was still unplayable in forts and city raids except on Sunday morning at 5am where we would fight unopposed most of the time so i rerolled with some hope but after 6 months i had enough of this crap.

Class imbalance has been terrible for most of the time i ve played, introduction of new classes when you haven t even done a good job on the ones you currently have was a major error imho.

And frankly the PVP sucked big time in oRVR being most of the time mindless zerging, lackluster fort attacks, boring itemization, terrible pve group content... those were minor annoyance, but the server crashing unplayable laggy joke of a end game content, unforgivable.

anyway if there is an expansion i ll try it for sure but i have very little faith in Mythic, WAR was too much of a let down...

Economy is a long term issue. The thing with WAR is it sucked right at the start. Although, that would have been an issue if people stuck around long enough.

Easy PvE? How out of touch is this guy. Its WAR. We don't care about PvE. Is this the same idiot who made ToA. You thought DAoC players wanted PvE?

CC. They learned nothing from DAoC. CC is the devil. There should be minimal CC. Every class should not be able to CC someone.

I believe you are talking about Mark Jacobs, who left the company not long ago to, "spend more time with his family"

In other words, he was canned.

I agree with everyone's assessment of what was wrong with this game, but I want to emphasize that if a graphics engine can't handle the graphics, then nothing else matters.  The game has to be playable for any of the other failures to even show up.

A fact that Mythic still has not figured out.

And that is why Mythic only exists on paper and is now owned by Bioware.  If Bioware has an ounce of sense (and we all know they have pounds of it) then they'll just get rid of the entire design team of former Mythic employees and proceed from there.

They can start with the Jeff Hickman, the executive producer that gave that interview.

LOL, if you make these critical comments on the Warhammer Alliance & the official forums, it gets deleted and you get banned.  Just like it was with the whole Warbuddy fiasco.  Mythic is in denial mode.

Sad, the game had a lot of promise, but a crappy, stubborn & delusional development team happened to kill it off.  Hopefully another game can do the RvR concept.

But it's ok, most War players going to Aion anyway.

Playing: EvE, Warhammer free unlimited trial, Allods Online
Played: Anarchy Online, WoW, Warhammer, AoC, Ryzom. Aion
Strongly Recommend: Ryzom, EvE, Allods Online

The number one reason for me quitting was that the game was too easy, so I'm glad they finally mentioned that. A close second was that most of the classes were boring and they kept nerfing and changing the interesting ones so there was just no point in playing.

ORvR didn't matter to me and I never participated so I didn't care if a server had more of one side then another, I only played scenarios and those launched when there is at least x amount of each side so it helped keep the numbers more fair.

Overall the game just sucked though, it was too easy, there wasn't any point in talking to anyone, the classes were lame, class rebalanced happened constantly making people have to keep changing their classes or roll new characters. Everything about the game was just done wrong, every last thing.

How can he not bring up performance issues. It don't matter how many things they get right or fix, if the game continues to run like crap, people are not going to play it. It could be the most fun game in the world and if it ran like WAR does it would end up frustrating and not fun. If my PC can Lotro and AoC on high, there is no excuse for WAR running like garbage. I'm all for sacraficing graphics for gameplay, but WAR sacraficed both apparently.

Let them take notes from Aion, hundreds on your screen and it runs smooth as silk. Its pathetic.

there biggest mistake is poor game coding where you log off at one point and you log back 20 meters away from the original point. The game it self would have been fantastic for the lack of quality coding.

    see you guys on aion

I never really disliked WAR, it just wasn't as addictive as other games. Repetitive PvP at end game was a bit annoying, but in the end I don't think it was too bad.

  • EthianEthian Member Posts: 1,216

Hmmm...he doesnt mention bugs? I tried returning about 2 months ago and it still had combat bugs. I logged out after 2 hours and dont plan on picking up the box again (waste of $15 to re-sub lol)

The game failed (for me) because it was not a Warhammer-like world. It never felt like Warhammer. I felt like I was playing in a series of connected maps the entire time. This game was heavily dependent on population and with too many servers upon release, they shot themselves in the foot. The PQs and RvR were fun despite the lack of an open cohesive world until the players began to leave. What is the point of having PQs all over the place when you don't have the population for it? The entire design screams inflated ego to me as if they thought droves of players would be occupying every area of ever tier map at all times. What BS.
