I know this is off topic and hopefully admin don"t punish me, but I don't know where to go for help on installing graphic card. I don't really want wait for email. It will probably take longer and I would more likely miss the preselect character. and I figure I ask you geeks out there xD (you guys are life savers )I just got a Nvidia Geforce 9800 GT graphics card... I got new power supply in, and I put in the card. but there this little skinny wire little more then foot and half long. I know where it connects in the card but where does it then connect on the other side? I think its the wire for the fan, not quite sure... It goes in right next to the wire that goes to the fan.... In the manual it shows wire from power supply going in. but there is now place for that to go there.
anyone be kind enough help please?:)

If it's similar to my 9600 gt, it needs an additional power supply to run. So I'm thinking it's the power cord. Mine plugs into a tiny outlet along the outer edge of my motherboard. During installation you should get a message asking if it's plugged in.
Good Luck
It connects to the powersupply with the 6pin adapter.
no its too small for that, I went on nvidia since no one anwsering on this at the time, they said it connected to sound if I was going connect it to htvmi or what ever you spell it, something for HD. Its small two pin on each side.
either way, I am connected it and computer is running now.

I have a 9800GTX, so they are kind of similar, but at the same time I think they're different, too.
The wire that you are talking about, did it come with your graphics card or did it come with your Power Supply?
If it came with the graphics card, it's probably the SLI cable which is only used for connecting two similar graphics cards together to have them work together. Go to google and type in SLI Cable or something and look at Google Images and see if that's the same cord.
I'm not sure what it is if it came with your power supply, though.
Generally speaking, you usually only need the 6-pin power cable from your Power Supply Unit to your Graphics Card (sometimes the graphics card requires two 6-pin power cords, like my 9800GTX). The fan gets its power from those power cords, and either gets its instructions based on a predetermined program inside the card, or from software that you can use to override it.
Let me know if this helps.
EDIT: Nevermind, you got it running. It was the HDMI sound? Hmm... I had a random cord in mine, but didn't hook it up. I wonder if it was the same thing. *Shrugs* In any case, hope it works out for you!
Hi Blueelf, looking at the pictures and specs of this card at nvidia site: www.nvidia.com/object/product_geforce_9800gt_us.html
I dont see any more external wires needed to connect to the card except the two 6pins power connectors.
You can install this card and boot up, shouldnt have any problem.

yeah came with the video card... and there no place for the two 6pin like it said in manual or 1 6pin on the video card:) so I think IM safe.. I opened up and fans running
