RMT's

ScotScot Member LegendaryPosts: 24,478

I got the impression from some Beta players that CO would have a RMT store with items that boosted your in game performance. But it only seems to be for vanity items, is that correct?

If that is so the RMT element is not an issue. Have there been any assurances from CO that they intend to keep the store strictly vanity?

No, all the suits have said is that IF the RMT stuff has game stats etc then you will also be able to quest it.

So, y'know, that shiny new cloak of awesomeness you were so happy to play for and win? Well, that guy standing next to you just went into a store and paid RL money  for his. And noone looking at the pair of you knows any different, so they naturally just assume you both did.

    Cool eh?

Right Now the only things in the store are Action Figures, which are Non-Combat Pets for 80 points ($1) each, right now.

Yes, its just vanity pets at the moment. Of course there is no guarantees that it will always be just like it is right now just like everything else in life. They may start to sell Red Bull on the shop so that everyone can grow wings. They may sell women's underwear and bras. They may sell Bill Ropers old shoes. Who knows?

So you still hear people with paranoid predictions like my man, Vesavius. I honestly don't know what would satisfy people like that. How much time needs to go by before they can stop looking at the possiblity with suspicion and disgust?

A few months ago people would say "just wait till you see what they are selling in beta". Then beta came and there was no MT shop. Then they said "just wait until they spring it on you for release". Then release came and went and there are vanity pets on the MT shop. The same people are still convinced that any day now there will be end-game gear being peddled to unwary subscribers.

I am guessing you will see these types of things in the shop.

Action Figures (which are already in there)

Costume pieces (that you will be able to earn through perks perhaps as well, but maybe not)

Respec (Retcon) as it is expensive in regards to in game currency

    Extra character slots

    Character Name Changes

Items (again, i think you will find consumables and maybe even some stat items but as Cryptic has said, you will be able to get them in game as well)

Well, just because I am paranoid, it dosent mean they arnt out to get me... right?

Seriously though, nothing I said wasnt based on official statements, so we have stepped outside of 'paranoia' and into fact as stated by the devs themselves. Attempting to discredit my personal point of view on RMT in games by trying to make me out as some kind of mad delusional is pretty weak debate.

And how much time needs to pass before I stop looking at RMT item mall Pay to Achieve games without suspicion and distrust? More then we both have tbh.

I hate what RMT does to games, and thats not gonna change I am afraid.

Except capes and clothing don't come with stats infact all items with stats are invisible to other players they're basically like jewelry no one can see so the only person who's going to know you bought an item or quested for an item..is you.  Infact unlike games like WoW and Everquest itemization isn't based on prestige and item sets so..honestly who cares if they sell a Mystic Pendant of woopie that gives yout +10 intelligence because I can craft items that give me +30.

Banthis, it was a playful example, not an attempt at a game fact. The point was never to suggest that CO specfically had stated cloaks ;)

I knew my comments would bring those paranoid naysayers right out of the word work. They are STILL convinced that RMT spells D-O-O-M.

Vesavius, you're making one very far reaching conclusion based on the vague comments from Cryptic. You're assuming that they would sell a "Cloak of Awesomeness" on the RMT shop implying that it is something that would make your character significantly more powerful. Knowing Cryptic, that cloak would be ten times more likely to make people dance than it would be to make your character any more powerful. That's what I mean by paranoia. You're assuming they will do the worst thing imaginable based on their comments where I think they will do something more humerous or oddly entertaining.

I think you should side with the doomsayers guys, at least in the official forums. That way you let Cryptic know just how anti you would be to power boosts being in the shop.

For now the shop seems fine though, enjoy the game, I may get it myself once time permits.

What doomsayers? I rarely see anything of signfigance ever said for or against the shop on the official boards the only ones the Devs actually pay attention too.  Infact the last big posts I saw on it were people wanting to buy more credits but the system wasn't set up to let you buy credits yet just use the pre order ones to get some vanity pets.

Doomsayers never get anything of worth accomplished they're the guys that stand on the side of the street in the City with big signs that said "God is coming we're all gonna die" in baggy dirty clothes.    They're infact the worst example of MMO society and pretty crap parts of normal society.  THere's a way to speak out and let your opinion be known without goign OMG EPIC FAIL WE"RE ALL GONNA DIE like a doomsayer does.     Speaking out in a educated well thought out manner and presenting your side or thoughts on the possibilities of the future goes alot further then doomsaying.

I used the word ‘doomsayers’ as a way of identifying those who were anti RMT’s. Not to suggest you all go on the official forums and pronounce doom. :)

A reasoned debate is what is needed.

I was surprised at the pets in the shop, do people actually buy those? I might buy a flash cape or something but little guys who follow you around, ah well each to their own.
