In the day where everyone is going FPS and doing everything possible to eliminate RPG isnt it great that these guys put out a real RPG! I think the players need to enforce RP after the game goes live. If we allow or encourage people to break the immersion its going to ruin what the game is really about. Although, i must admit i dont have a clue how to RP an Imp LOL.

I know Wish is a different style of game and alot of people are going in thinking EQ but dont because its nothing like it. If you go in expecting another game your going to be very very disappointed. Go in expecting to RP. Go in expecting to find different types of rewards waiting for you. The game is laid back. There is no grind. It's very unique in this day and age. Please help this game towards its goal by doing the beta and giving the devs feedback on bugs. This game is going to find its niche and the community it draws will be fantastic i'm sure :)

RPG doesnt stand for Really Proposterous Game. Preserving the slowness and monotony of the 'classical' RPG gameplay isn't a good idea. That fast paced action with good RPG qualities under the hood is the future of MMO's and RPGs in general. If you get your jollies off simply watching the #'s on your combat window grow as you level, thats your prerogative, but a lot of us want a much more visually appealling experience. But not at the cost of gameplay. Peace.

EDIT: And judging from the 81 hours you spent playing EverQuest this week its no wonder you appreciate this type of monotonous gameplay. Enjoy.

Wow man wong on many things here..

First this in an RPG and some people actually like RPG's over FPS. Sorry its not you your really missing alot of fun do to your lack of imagination. This games sole purpose isnt just grinding levels and fighting.

Secondly I run alot of raids. I can no longer gain exp in EQ mainly i socialize and lead raids so as far getting my jollies off of watching combat windows i cant say i'm in combat that much on eq anymore. Sorry if you never got past the grind to really find out what eq is all about but go try wow it only takes 2 weeks to grind it out. Too bad they have nothing to do once your there and nobody roleplays.

Show me a fast action rpg :)

First of all I hate WoW, and no problem. Come play The Matrix Online beta, I'll give you a personal tour of what a 'fast action rpg' is.

Don't think its up your alley though if you're hardcore into fantasy games :P

I am thankful for a game that is goal oriented instead of grind oriented. Even WoW, even though the grind is fast, is waring on me. Needless to say, I got nowhere quick in EQ.

I would love to give you the reasons why i wont play MxO but i wont say it sucks because its a matter of taste just like Wish. First off the graphics remind me of late 80's ninteno games like streetfighter. The game is clumsy at best with its interface. Its riddled with bugs but i can let that slide its beta and thats the point of beta. Ultimately the game style is a step back in time by about 15 years and although i think it will find a niche with teenagers i dont see it being wildly popular like EQ or WoW. Thats about as much time as i care to spend discussing MxO.. not my game for sure.

You can call people an ignorant MxO basher but in the meantime you sound like an idiot yourself. The game isnt slow, sure it may not be as fast as WoW but its no EQ. The combat is not autoattacked, its quite similar to CoH and you are constantly learning new abilities. Lastly you dont even level, its a skill based game, which means as you do something you become better and better at it. Get your facts straight before you post crap.

Yes, RPG does mean you roleplay.  So are you saying that you cant roleplay in MxO because its in your words an "FPS" mmog?  Just because a game is an RPG doesnt mean anything.  Wish might be called an MMO"RPG" but its not an RPG in the real terms unless the players roleplay.  Now that could mean that for some people its an RPG, because in fact they do roleplay.  Hell, i could call CS Source an RPG, just as long as i acted like my Counter Terrorist character and really talked like a swat member with the "10-4" and "roger that" talk.

I really think that you are going to be dissapointed if you are looking at Wish as being a huge Roleplaying game.  Unless its enforced, and you get in trouble if you dont roleplay, Wish or any other MMO"RPG" will never be pure roleplaying.  Yes there will always be people who roleplay, but there are always other who dont.

  • CopelandCopeland Member Posts: 1,955

True if you and the majority of your CS community roleplay then it can be called an RPG :)

I think the majority of wish players will Roleplay. Just my gut feeling i have no evidence to back that up. As i said the game really does lend itself to roleplaying. I'll be roleplaying :)

Never did i say MxO is an FPS MMOG. As a matter of fact does it even offer the first person perspective? kind of a must for a first person shooter LOL..

I think the way the game is setup (skill based) just makes...well...EVERYTHING sounds more in character. Such as, I was asking if a tin saw was worse than a bronze saw and if it did anything better/worse/etc. It works as OC and OOC, making the whole game more immersive.

Have you ever been to the Pwntouchables community? I'm guessing not, its a huge MXO RPers following. I'm a avid hardcore role player, I am in a RP crew, and we aren't RPing right now like most of the crowd because hi....its a beta test. We need to test, and the stage hasn't been set (no storyline) to RP against.

You really piss me off. Its a MMOG? It's one of the most RP-supportive MMORPGS out there. It goes a long way to do so both in character development,. customization both physically and in other dimensions and the depth of the world (Granted its a city scape but its entirely different in comparison to say City of Heroes, I can actually enter any building)

Under the hood its very much an RPG in terms of mechanics, statistics reflect the abilities and capabilities of your character. Both in attributes, and traits as well as your skill set and its listed buffs / debuffs and other augmentations or endowments to your character. How you come off saying its not a RPG is ludicrous and really insulting.

You're just hung up on fantasy and you can bear to play a game that doesnt have elves or dwarves since youre so caught up on EQ. Wow, no RPing, thats a laugh, of course not its in beta test, but there is quite a following

    http://pwntouchables.game-host.org/phpbb2/portal.php

    Do your homework.

    My crew site is at
www.archimedes-lever.com (Were an RPing crew, maybe you should check into that since youre so interested in RP)

From one of the MXO Devs' web blog:
"I just got home from the office. I put in around 12 hours today and would have stayed later except for the bus schedule (the last bus runs back home at 10PM).

Many of you won't understand this, but I know some of you will: I don't always enjoy playing the game I'm working on.

Often I'm playing with parts of the game that are broken, or incomplete, and while the Beta testers can revel in the newness of their experience and have a blast, I am confounded by the things I know should (and will) work better and annoyed by the lack of the features yet to be implemented.

I have been quite busy writing content and dialogue for a few weeks now, so today I returned to the game after a long absence. It was astounding. It was FUN. So many things that had only existed on paper are now part of the experience. So many improvements I had asked for are now reality.

But it's not just my developer's pride that's making me smile. I am also pleased as a gamer, and specifically as a role-player.

As many of you know, I'm a social gamer. I'm not interested in having the biggest gun, or being able to take on an army all alone. I usually play healers or support characters, and I'm really only happy when I can make my character an individual with a personality of their own.

Because of that, I am incredibly pleased with the range of options we're able to offer in characters — not just in clothing and equipment, not just in skills and abilities, but in who they are. The kind of person you are, the way you spent your life prior to taking the red pill, actually matters.

Granted, the power-gamers will blow right through that stuff in their hurry to get to the gun-fu (and good for them), but for the role-player in me it's a moral victory that players will have the opportunity to customize on that level. It's nice to be acknowledging the RP community in the design, and in my mind it makes the game truly worthy of the MMORPG label."

Well i'm glad to see some people are roleplaying over there. I'm in no way hung up on fantasy. I really enjoy the concept of the matrix but i didnt care for the game all that much. Maybe i was expecting too much? What it all boils down to is that its just not my type of game. It seemed bland. Just my opinion though man. It doesnt count for shit.

MAybe you need to give it some time to grow on you -- not all of its subtle nuances are visible at first glance. I've discovered the depth of the game just playing it for awhile.

since i said mxo is a piece of shit i'll elaborate....

yea, its a beta, so dont fuckin tell me...

graphics are kinda weak(graphics are low on my personal list)

movement is not fun, whats up with the regular jump? dosnt even move forward

map sucks- i play way too many games to be wondering around in some city; shit i travel way too much irl to be gettin lost in some video game

should it always be cloudy and rainy in matrixville?

    not fun....

if they even want to compete with eq2, wow, eve or coh, they need to make it fun and to have nice places to hunt or whatever

yea, i could just grind in the streets, but if i want to grind and get somewhere, i'll play ragnarok.

Graphics arent weak, your rig is probably weak. The games engine is entirely designed around DX9, so unless youre on a full DX9 card you won't be able to realize most of its beauty.

And well all the other things you mentioned are all called quality of life / polish issues. Considering we just got a 4 month delay, your points will be moot by April unless the devs fuck up :P (And they won't.)

And it was always looming, dark, and there was rain in the Mega City. You've likely not been to all the districts so you haven't seen their vast aesthetic differences. Also you don't sound like the type of gamer we need on MXO anyways. If all you can think about is competing. Thats not for you to worry about, thats the business end. It's about whether or not you enjoy the game. Let them worry about their 'competition' in sales you don't work for Monolith. It's weird you try to mention it has something to try and match up to COH, City of Heroes, although I love it, has a totally empty City. You can't enter any of the buildings, it's pretty ridiculous. While MXO is entirely inhabitable, every single building. (Well 95%)

It's also not jus grinding, maybe you need to read up a bit more.

Perhaps the filefront interview with Toby Raigani, good info there. Or some of the dev chats.

OK since this is a wish forum dont expect us to care about MxO. I beta test MxO and to say the graphics are weak is an overstatement. MxO graphics make 1988 nintendo look good. And before you say its my rig .. No its not. I can play games on full graphics without any lag. Quit pushing MxO in a Wish forum. It was bad enough watching the EQ2 and WoW fanboys go at it. If your pushing MxO over Wish your not going to be able as they are completely different genres with completely different audiences.

PS: The more you come to Wish forums to push your game the worse you make your games community look.

    image

  • sygmassygmas Member Posts: 949

Unfortunately I don't care about 'my games community' or how it looks. It's a video game, I'm talking about it out of my own interest, and it'll be where and when I like it. I'm only so god damn stubborn about it because im tired of ignorant people bashing a legitimately good game. It makes sense though, everyones always whining about shitty games but when a good oen comes along they will take it for granted. "The movies sucked! So the game sucks!"

I'm not pushing MXO over Wish, MXO does that by itself buddy. And yeah its your rig, if you play EQ all the time you wouldn't even be remotely bothered by MXO's graphics.
