Don't feed the trolls but it so tempting. Here it goes:

Aion looks great but the big question mark is NCsoft (Cryptic ran CoH and ArenaNet managed GW fyi) which did poor job of running Lineage 2 (bots, hacks etc). Hopefully they learned from that already there is lot of hacks out for US Aion including ways to bypass/fool game guard, the game only has one end game PvE instance it is focused around RvR not sure how will it do here. In china lot of Aion servers are currently empty and many have moved to playing WoW in taiwnese servers. I am hopeful this game can take on the Blizzard's Juggernaut but only time will tell.

Funny thing is am playing both. Aion is 180 different from CO. And that is why am playing both , when i get bored or want a change it feels good to switch games. Kinda of like having a Mac and a PC

    Played Aoc/DDO/FFXI/WAR / LoTRo / CO / Aion
    Playing Rift

Waiting for FFXIV to be the game it should. so sad =(

Agree Zandora, the two games are so different in every respect that they defy comparison, good or bad.  Aion, for better or worse, is a PvP game with just enough PvE to make you earn your unlocks.  Champions is a character builder game with a big test track world built for you to take your creation out for a spin.  I think they appeal to different players, at least different play styles and comparing them is really pointless.

    It's bubblegum....

    vs. Steak...

While steak is awesome, sometimes you want some bubblegum.

I may end up playing both.

Very good thread, it shows the Communities on both sides.

Casual gaming vs People who live in a virtual guild for too long

  • monothmonoth Member Posts: 551

Aion has 20+ group dungeons at release, Champions Online only has 6-7 and most of those are bugged and not itemized at this time, meaning you get no loot for killing the end bosses.

I have a 6 month subscription to both games, Champions Online is a great game for when you want to solo play as the game is setup around the individual player.  Where as Aion is more like a traditional MMO where you will want to group with friends, especially in contested zones where the other side can jump you.

Where Aion has more traditional PvP, Champions PvP is for the extremely casual pvp'er who enjoys doing it for 30-40 mins then wants to go back to PvE and not be bothered by other players.  Also CO PvP is just mini games, where Aion is Realm vs Realm.

IMO, the two games are so different you really can't compare them, they will appeal to two different type of players IMO. Right now I'm looking forward to playing Aion with my guild, but for those nights where my guild mates are not on, I can jump on Champions to kill some time by myself.

Well as people have said it's really too hard to compare them but Aion is more for me... I didn't like CO online, I thought it was too buggy and clunky and lacked in good PvP and the PvE was very generic when it could have been very unique.. seeing as how it was a super hero game and all.

Thus I say Aion. It's what I'm going to play untill FFXI and GW2.

    I love attention threads!

Aion is being published by NCSoft...which is worse then SoE(and thats saying ALOT).  CO is a unfinished product that needs alot of polishing and good ole spit shining.  Really its like choosing the lesser of two evils in the mmo world.  In this case I'd sit back and watch to see which one completely self destructs first and falls on its face.  I'm not to quick on the draw on CO because Cryptic is known to improve on games much so in the first 6 months.  While NCsoft struggles just to keep a game running that long *cough* TR.  Hopefully NCSoft has learned from past mistakes.  Otherwise I think its just another mass-produced Asian MMO coming off an assembly line to be "Western-ized" for European and U.S. market.  We all know thats worked out great for past games.

Aion has the better graphics and game maps. Champions have the better quests.

  • tyanyatyanya Member Posts: 199

They both look a darnsight better than they play (I don't think the bugged pictures of the op are a fair cmparison however ^^)....niether game seems to offer a single original idea, its really down to CO's awesome avatar creator vs Aion's considerable depth of rp and lore....... swings and roundabouts.

My advice is to either go with an established mmo or go play some decent single player games till DCUO, APB and/or SW ToR are close enough to be considered, they at least are trying a different approach to just yet more of the same.

Why not just compare apples to snow tires?

    But, to be on topic:

    Aion = silly Asian nonsense

Champions = A game that I am having a LOT of fun with right now.

Why would anyone in thier right mind even attempt to even want to even give a shit to play Champions when there is DDO Unlimited now?????

Not to ruin the fun, but.

Aion is a PVE game with a huge factor of PVP.

Abyss is like BG in Wow.

My self is going to enjoy both pve and pvp , but mostly pve.

Just said that if you think this is a PVP game like WH

    System Specc
    Intel I7 4770K 3,5 ghz

Yeah wasn't fond of CO either.... you're told you can create your own superhero.

so you go up to it, and you want a fat crocodile who rips people to shreds with his teeth, with near superhuman stren...

yeah.. no, you have "predefined" sets with more sets incoming (in the future like the "Light" set).

    yawn.

You have more bugs than you know what to do with (although the reporting bug system, ironically,  is the best i've seen). The PvE is bleh, the PvP is tacked on like the crafting... the itemisation is a joke. Unlocking items.. gee thats fun. SO i can make the predefined superhero i always wanted AFTER playing it for hours. yay.

    subscription + item shop.... goody.

Once you get in... "welcome to the community, i'm sorry you'll only be able to play with 200 people at one time, worse as soon as you level up or go anywhere at all, you'll come back to another different 200 people each time"

thats not an MMO, thats Guild Wars upgraded.

Aion is zoned as fyi if you notice you can switch between which instance you play in the starting areas.

so you go up to it, and you want a fat crocodile who rips people to shreds with his teeth, with near superhuman stren...  First off... not a Hero.  Second off... you can do that with CO's system.

yeah.. no, you have "predefined" sets with more sets incoming (in the future like the "Light" set).  I'm sorry that you are completely clueless on this portion of the game.  I'm sorry that you have no knowledge that you don't have a "predefined" system (*cough* CoX anyone? *cough*) that you MUST stay within.  No, you can mix'n'match powers from various other sets to make the character YOU want to play.  Yeah... doesn't sound like "predefined" to me.  EPIC FAIL on your part.

yawn.  You might want to take a nap if you're so tired.  Maybe your sensibilities might return after getting some shut-eye.

"welcome to the community, i'm sorry you'll only be able to play with 200 people at one time, worse as soon as you level up or go anywhere at all, you'll come back to another different 200 people each time"  Solid proof that you have no fracking clue what in the Hell you are talking about.  You've never played the live game, but are just parroting what you are hearing from other Trolls.

thats not an MMO, thats Guild Wars upgraded.  False.  Nice try at attempting a specious argument.

Just another clueless individual that's parroting blatantly false stuff from the other anti-CO Trolls.

Not to split hairs but Aion is a PvP game with necessary PvE.  Past lvl 20 it is forced PvP and the Abyss is nothing like BG in wow.  The Abyss is an open RvR zone which you pretty much have to go to to progress and access various contested dungeons.

So if you like PvE you will not like Aion.  If you like PvP then Aion is definitely going to be a good game for you.  Aion has great graphics very linear PvE progression and PvP is really the main focus of the game.

Not sure what people mean about CO being buggy. Everyone I know has only seen a few bugged quests here and there- as well as the Open Missions getting locked sometimes. As far as releases go, CO is the least buggy ever. The patcher problem they had in the closed beta was pretty anoying, but that was before the game release.

Don't get me wrong, I am a bit disappointed with some things in CO, its content is linear and up to lvl 30 PvP lacks any real objectives.  But I was far more disappointed with Aion.  It is even more linear than CO and its zones are even smaller. The characters in Aion are far less customizable than CO. You can change your face and shape in aion, but everyone of the same classes wear the same looking armor.

Both are good games (though not nearly as good as I hoped), it is more of a matter if you want more PvP or PvE. Each is a bit better in their focus area.  CO for PvE and Aion for PvP.

  • qotsaqotsa Member UncommonPosts: 835

I've encountered hardly any bugs with CO. I've only crashed a few times since pre-release started. Other than that, I run it on high and do not experience any lag and it runs smooth for me.

The OP pictures "comparing" the two is just plain retarded. Yay take your "pretty" Asian grinder on rails and have fun. It was one of the most unpleasant games I've ever touched. It's the first mmo since UO I couldn't stand getting past even level 7. I've tried to get to at least 20 in any mmo before I decide. And I've played some realt stinkers. If you all like it, that is great.  But it is far from perfect and so over hyped it makes me want to vomit.
