I don't know if anyone will agree with me or not, but the Norn race will be the attraction to most people. If the developers make the transformation into a skill or even an elite skill I think it may hurt the game reviews but what will most likely happen is the Norn char will have to take up a spot on your skill bar similar to that of having a pet for the ranger. Thus, if you wish to transform into a Bear you have to have that skill equipped.
How do you think the transformation will happen?

I think I'd be more interested in the Sylvari and the Human Necro. Although trying each race doesn't sound half bad to me.
In the F2P game, Perfect World, you could change into a fox/tiger if you were the beast race. But you had to earn the skill, which you got early on anyway, and it was used like a skill (but I think it would last as long as you wanted to. I could be wrong). Something along those lines might work, or just map the transformation to a key.
I will certainly be rolling a Norn out the gate but that's only because of my Heritage being Norse. However in relation to the Transformation mechanic it is not certain as to whether it will be a skill or racial ability as it has been hinted that the Asura will have Golems to fight at their side. I think that each race will have its own unique mechanic and knowing ANet they will balance it quite well and make each race a unique experience both environmentally and game mechanically.
Seeing as how every race has a unique ability or abilities, people atm are most attracted to the norn because they know what that ability is for sure. You can't say the same about the other races. Its too early to call.
cant say im the least bit attracted to norn
ill be rollign a human ritualist/spirtmaster/warlock
whatever version of those gw2 has
Thank you for the posts. I also am highly interested in the Char Shaman. I can't tell you how many times I had major problems trying to aggro a mob with 3 or more Char Shaman's constantly healing and ressurecting the mob. I think the Shaman class will definitely be a force to recon with if in a party.
To be honest, I would have to say that out all the races, the Norn actually appeal to me the least. It's not that I have anything against them, but i found the other races more interesting than the Norn, especially the Sylvari and the Asura. Even if the Norn do have a basic racial ability, which is to turn into a bear, the other races would probably have their own as well, because after all, if they didn't people would probably be complaining a lot.
Main characters:
Jinn Gone Quiet (Guild Wars)
Princess Pudding (Guild Wars)
I bet Norn will probably be the second most popular race after humans. Sylvari might be up there too, depending on how "elven" they are.
Personally, I'm stoked about the Charr. I always loved their look in GW1, and when I found out they were getting big guns in GW2, I was sold.

I'm actually looking forward to making a charr as my first character becauce the racial abilities that have been speculated say that:
-Norns can transform into a bearform. I don't know what this would bring but my previous experiences from varying rpgs with transformation is not good. Atleast not in a general sence. There's always a drawback and at least it is a nuisance you have to perform always before the action starts. If you want to take the most from your character that is.
-Asurans and sylvari have pets: Golems and beast or whatnot. Anything I cannot directly control I don't like. When the action starts it is an AI controlled character and for the game to be balanced, my character's "power" is split between my character and the pet. Which makes my character less powerful and my pet a liability since AI is prone to make mistakes. At worst it becomes micromanagement between my main character and my pet which is another nuisance.
-Charr have guns. There's nothing wrong with that.
After reading that myself I see how extremely sceptic or pessimistic this sounds but this is my view at the moment.

I want to be a kodan
tbh, i don't like any of the new races that much...
Norn are ok, but they are looking too similar to humans imo.
Sylvari look great in concept art, but ingame they look like chars from a cheap F2P asia grinder T.T
Asura design was imo much better in GW1 as well. Just look at Quirhid's avatar and compare it to the new babyheads...
Good old Charr and Humans are nice, and I'll just roll another human -.-
Hype train -> Reality
Human Warrior ftw. I liked the armor the human in the trailer was suited with. But I like melee classes in general.
I wanna be one of those little dudes riding around on a golem!!!
The hell with the shape shifters.
PLaying: EvE, Ryzom
Waiting For: Earthrise, Perpetuum
i really like the male norn armor here, with that wooden armor instead of all metal and that winged helmet, im totally making one juz to get this look

I don't really care about the dif races, I just want an adventuresome, beautiful game with excellent gameplay. :-D GW1 was that and hoping for GW2 to be too!

Anet is good about setting a good balance to things. They might put it together like gw1's attribute system. Got a ranger, but don't want a pet with you, dont use the skill and put no points in beast mastery. Don't feel like making your norn's bear form really powerful, dont put points in it. Seems like it might be the easiest system for it.
Personally, I actually think norn is probably at the bottom of my list of races to try.
cool thing about GW.....is that you can be everything. AND I WILL BE......

I see few people going the Norn as main, simply because the attraction of the others will be larger. Sylvari are a lot like elves, humans are humans, charr because you couldnt in GW1 and asurans cause they're nasty little anklebiters (gremlins) or cause they are cute xD.
I do however see a lot making a Norn as alt, because the transforming into bear/leopard/wolf will provide a great ammount of fun and different game experiences in just 1 more character.
