Please, no trolls here. Only intellectual inquiry and constructive criticism. Also note that I am not claiming myself as the all-knower of Guild Wars 2. The thread title is merely to attract people who know what they are talking about, or seek information.
Hype - There is an issue with many trolls complaining about the hype here. The answer, give it a week or so longer! Everyone who has been waiting for the game since it was announced(2 years ago, not 2 weeks.) has rated it 9 or 10. The reason the hype is still so high is because people who aren't as excited have not rated it yet, or not enough to balance out the hype.
Not an MMO? - ArenaNet clearly stated that they are removing the instancing. When you leave a city, you won't be on your own, there will be other randoms running around stealing your mobs, like any other mmorpg. That is probably the biggest change in mechanics. Hopefully, they will still use the district system. The point of this system being able to go to area's of higher/lower population. Perhaps they will do this in the open world as well to avoid mob stealing.
No Monthly Fee - ArenaNet is sticking to the "No monthly fee" price model. I see Guild Wars as the only good F2P franchise. How does it keep it's funds up? Constant expansions. ArenaNet will be pushing expansions out for 30 bucks every 6 months. The regular MMO player may contest this decision, but, do the math, it's a lot cheaper for us, and keeps us interested. You may also think that the quality of the expansions may not be as good as the expansions for your game that come out every 2 years. On the contrary, the quality is just as good, debateably better(depending on your gaming and environment taste.)
Not an RPG? - Many people debate the fact of whether or not is a role playing game. I believe that GuildWars1 is an RPG. You play the role of someone else in a game. Simple as that.
The "Traditional" MMORPG - The traditional MMORPG, generally, consists of a main storyline that everything revolves around but also has many secondary quests that may or may not contribute to the story, however insignificantly, if at all. Guild Wars1 doesn't have a whole load of secondary quests, though many people consider this a must in every mmorpg. It definitely does have a compelling story though it doesn't allow as much of a feel of going your own path as other games do. I am confident that this will change in Guild Wars 2 for the better. I have no doubts.
"Just another NcSoft Game" - GuildWars is not an NCSoft game, written, designed, and promoted by NCSoft. Guild Wars is created and designed by ArenaNet. NCSoft is merely its producer.
EDIT:
Factions - I forgot to talk about this. Now, factions are unannounced(to my knowledge) and, perhaps, there won't be any. I am hoping for opposing factions, I think it adds to my experience. Maybe they won't go the traditional route of races being a specific side, ArenaNet is all about originality. Perhaps you will create a character under the race and class you select then, at a certain level, you go through a series of quests to choose the faction side you want.
Levels - Unannounced level cap. Possibly no level cap.(bad idea imo). At a certain point, being a high level amounts to nothing.(This is confirmed, if they choose to go no-level cap)
Feel free to ask questions, I'm sure there are many who will reply.
Please no Trolls or dumbasses with tunnel-vision here. Let's keep the flaming at minimum to none.

When Will It Come Out--
When Its Ready
-----------------
We still dont know much about the game yet. So lets just stop with this throwing around of Emotional Opinions.
Haters and Fans, just get along. Anet did this move to please both groups of players, otherwise they would have stuck to the GW1 format.

Also Districts is what you are looking for.
Servers will likely be devided into Districts.
Knowing that the Mist is World vs World seems to suggest that Servers will be in play.
Maybe Districts control a certain part of your Server's Control points in the Mist, and is allied with other Districts of the same server during PvP siegeing
Nobody wants to contribute to a thread with no trolls so far?
I'm not really sure what you looking for here. A FAQ? Or a Frequently Stated Opinions?
Hmm, you can't be sure about the districts system in GW2, they have mentioned nothing.
We don't even know if GW2 will be only "one server" like GW1.
It doesn't look like it will be a one world server like in Guild Wars. That's rather disappointing for me but I guess it's understandable.
A key side not is that it was previously announced that Guild Wars 2 would no longer be a single-world game. It will run on various realms, like most persistent-world MMORPGs, but it will allow players to switch servers freely if they so desire. Perhaps if you’ve joined the wrong server in the beginning and wish to transfer your character to join your friends on another realm
Got that quote from this preview,
http://gamedrone.net/2009/08/21/guild-wars-2-preview/
1) They have announced that there will be different servers, however you will be able to easily switch between the servers with your character.
2) The playable characters will all be on the same faction. This has been stated already by ArenaNet. They want to promote working together and want friends to be able to join up with eachother regardless of race.
3) Just go to guildwars2.com they have a FAQ section which will clear up a lot of myths and wrong information about this game.
Things we know:
1) It will be more like a traditional MMORPG with more of a persistant world
2) There is jumping and swimming
3) All the races will be working together
4) It takes place on Tyria (Cantha has shut down it's trade with Tyria and closed themselves off)
5) It has some sort of night/day cycle as seen in the trailer
6) It will be free to play
7) There will be no beta testing untill it is close to being ready for release
Those are the top important things I can think of
There is going to be 1 "server", probably a bank or servers, that is going to broken into "shards." Each "shard" will compete in the mists in long(days maybe weeks) open world pvp.
Winning will reward your "shard" with improve mechanics, i.e,, better drop rates, increase energy regen.
There will be more than 2 "shards" and there will be a rotating schedule.
none of rewards sre set in stone specifics but the devs have said these are some possibilities.
the new stuff on http://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/ has alot of info.
im a pvper at heart, but the living world stuff does sound fun.
edit:: you supposedly can transfer shards at will.
To have a district system, you don't need to have one world server. Look at Aion. Aion has many servers but they still use the district system to help eliminate the problem of mob stealing or other problems that could arise from over-population.
All im looking for in this thread is to compile all of the knowledge we have on GW2. Also, I'm looking for things that people think ArenaNet may do/want them to do.
I read that there will be no level cap as its not like the generic MMO's like Wow.. levels are just to show how long you've been playing and similar stuff (maybe you'll get a Title or some such) they mean nothing to the over all gameplay.
Which showed in GW 1 is a great idea in my opinion.

please dont be misled by the increase of persistence in the game
i know GW fanatics are excited abt persistence but there will be instancing in GW2 but this time around there will be a good balance between the two
from the FAQ
While Guild Wars 2 adds a persistent-world experience, it retains the unique characteristics of the original game, including strong narrative, extensive instanced gameplay, anti-grind design philosophy, and strong support for competitive play.
there will be no Factions or allegiances in the 1st chapter
humans, charr, asura, sylvari will be fighting on the same side againsts a common foe but we might see factions in later campaigns
Have fun storming the castle! - Miracle Max
Are those races confirmed as the only playable races or confirmed at all? I read an interview where tehy mentioned dwarves and Mursaat as well. It was said that Mursaat was the ArenaNet favorite
As far as we know, instancing will be used only for dungeons, missions and PvP arenas. I guess the missions will be accessed via a NPC aka Nightfall and Eye of the North style. Everything else will be persistent.
Yes what I said is true. Clearly no one is looking up information ore reading the interviews that out there. -_- So don't try and make it seem like I don't know what I'm talking about. In an inteview they said it would be more of a persistant world with the story heavly driven through instances and missions. They said there will not be factions... in an interview as well.. most of which can be fun on various guild wars 2 websites. If they add factions in an expansion that's just speculation on your part.
Right now they said no faction between the races.
And yes, those races are confirmed. Look almost anywhere and you will see We might see the Murrsaat in an expansion or something (though I don't think so since we kinda took them out in Prophices) and also then Tengu are highly hoped for in an expansion.
I came across a bit of info on GW2 not sure how accurate it is but seems like they know

i hope this helps people.
And i hope its ok to link this.

I've read practically every review and seen all the videos on gw2 that i could find. According to the information i have gathered, the game is going to run district system similar to what is in gw1, but it will encompass the entire game world and you will be able to switch between them freely. As for instances, the game is going to be a persistant world but instances are still going to be used for dungeons and storytelling elements like missions. As for leveling, they has stated that the game is going to have a higher level cap, the specifics are unknown but they have stated that it could be 100 or even infinite, of course there will be deminishing returns after a certain point so you receive less benefit from leveling at some point but will work as a form of prestige. Because of this, the game will still be very much focused on a grind free philosophy. They are also making the game more solo friendly by strengthening the player if they choose to play solo, a quote from their FAQ on gw2 website states "You will be able to advance your character to the maximum level without ever joining a group if you so desire. Most content will be designed in a solo-friendly way, though often with mechanisms for scaling up in difficulty when more players are involved. This will give players the option to experience the game however they prefer. At the same time, it is important for an MMO community to join together to overcome challenges. Guild Wars 2 will feature challenges that require players to join forces." There will also be some form of a sidekick system similar as what was seen in city of heroes that will allow you and a friend to play together even if you are different levels by giving a buff of some sort to the lower level player. They have also stated in an interview on eurogamer that there will definately be some form of crafting in the game and have other things for players to do besides fighting. So far confirmed playable races are human, charr, norn, sylvari, and asuran. There has been no other info stating if there would be other races but they have stated that each race will have exclusive racial abilities.
if anyone cares to check out the same place i got my information, its all listed on www.guildwars2.com on the news and FAQ sections. Everything that is currently known about the game can be found there. They also have an official wiki already set up that basically states everything listed in the FAQ as well as offer extra information about some of the lore in the game.
In response to the Not an MMO statement, yes the world will be open however Anet is not completely removing the instancing aspect of the game. They have said the for story driven missions and dungeons and such that instancing will still be used. As far as the factions thing goes it would be safe to assume that the overall need for them is no longer apparent as the races will be divided and need to be brought together the races themselves could serve as factions an it could be work differently?? who knows? Anet probably lol. Finally on the point of lvl cap in many Q&A's it it has been stated that 20 will no longer be the cap and it has been suggested to be higher, however Anet wishes to make playing with higher and lower lvl players more accessible so I would expect to see something akin to the sidekick system in City of Heroes.
