I have a bad feeling about this

I think NCSoft does not fully understand just how many people are ready to jump ship to Aion. For god's sake they have 400,000 preorders and only 24 servers (US and Euro total)!!!

That makes for 16K guaranteed people per server. I think the capacity of a server is at most 10K people. And I am being generous here after all WOW servers take no more than 5K simultaneous users before queues kick in. Note that we're not even taking into account regular retail sales.

I think the servers will be night unplayable until they open up at least 20 more servers.

It will be better they leave it this way for awhile for the subs to average out. Players will look for other sververs once the 1 they are hoping to get into is lock.

Right now there's still servers not yet lock out. Releasing too much servers too fast will thin out the pop, look at War. Dont make the same mistake...

First of all, you have a typo. You  meant 400,000 not 4,000,000.

Secondly, while it may even be correct that 400,000 people will play, all of them will not play at the same time.

No company is stupid enough to set up an extra 20 servers just to accomodate the surge they get on week 1 (when everyone wants to play 24/7). After week 1, 16000 subs per server translates to about 5-10k concurrent users.

So I think they've done their math right.

    What a stupid comment.

To the OP, they've said they will add more servers as needed because they want the best possible experience for the players.

So basically, more will be added within a couple weeks of release more than likely.

They are also trying to fill each server up with an equal number of people from each faction, and then fill up the next one, in order.

If they open 30 at once, it will be really difficult to do that.

My legion members are disappointed cause only half of us got characters ready the rest can't server is locked. I know you say jump on next server but we are a legion we need everyone on same server.

Sorry but I really doubt this number

Imagine that you are in the abyss  say a year later when 80% of the population is high level. Can you imagine what would it be like to have 50,000 peeps on one map?

Note that while at low levels they may be able to shard in to zones (instances), there are no instances at higher level, everyone plays in the same region (at least better be that way or else!)

They'll just have to wait it out unfortunately. lol

That's the price we pay for faction balance. :)

I dont doubt there servers can handle 10s of k I have played several games with a boasted single server popualtion usualy around 50k  and yes loged in simo. Now I have no idea what NC has set up the Aion servers to handel its not just what the server side can handle mechanicaly but also what the structure of the world was intended to handel. I do however have some small faith that NCSoft who has done this before . . . several times before can do the basic math and know within a resonable margen what they have coming in and what they can handel and they have te reasources to throw more servers at it as needed.

I for one and so damn happy to see them take such a proactive stance on server population control, I hope they do it well and that is yet to be seen but they are trying and the plan seems like it will work to give us fully populated but not over populated balanced servers which will be very important for the mid to end game with Aion imo.

One of the biggest mistakes companies have been making lately is going overboard on server additions so if I would worry about anything it would be NCSoft doing that.

    1. For god's sake mmo gamers, enough with the analogies. They're unnecessary and your comparisons are terrible, dissimilar, and illogical.

    2. To posters feeling the need to state how f2p really isn't f2p: Players understand the concept. You aren't privy to some secret the rest are missing. You're embarrassing yourself.

    3. Yes, Cpt. Obvious, we're not industry experts. Now run along and let the big people use the forums for their purpose.

Aion has a strong focus on open- world PvP and that requires a high population to succeed.  They can always add some servers in a few months after they get a better idea of the retention rate and the real population.

  • ScyrisScyris Member UncommonPosts: 149

Meh I bet less than half will stay past the first free month, Aion is bascally just a korean grinder (plays like one to). They'll probally be lucky to have 100k players still on by the time they get to bill them. Pre-order's mean little in a mmorpg. the first month its live doesn't count since its the freebie, lets see how many stay after that. Also it may be 16k per server but the chance of more than half or even 1/4th of that being online at one time is slim at best. Maybe for the first day or 2.

NCsoft isn't stupid and this isn't their first rodeo. You can bet they already have more servers ready. You can always use another back up server so even if they didn't need to open new servers they would have use for the extra servers eventually.

At least 10 more each coast sounds more reasonable.  I don't believe that have fully realized how many people are going to play Aion.

But one thing you have to remember.  With City of Heroes they still only have a small amount of servers.  12 or 14 if I remember right.  And alot, I mean alot of people have/had played that game.

If your refering to War Mythic was taken up by EA at that point, have you ever played an EA game that wasnt a complete pile of crap? You cant tell me the creater of DAoC screwed the pooch that friggen hard, War's launch was the most epic fail I have ever seen (ok maybe not that bad) but considering even the main menu UI looked like it was rushed out by an 8 year old on an old version of Photoshop War is just not a good example of true Mythic work and EA's stupidity is far and beyond any thing even Sony can muster (like ther games but ya there dumb some times epicly so)

Nobody is logged on so what are you talking about? It's simply more people on one side, etc. There is a reason they also have temporary locks and it's probably to funnel people to other servers. We aren't buildilng rockets over here people. It will open back up.

  • SerpentarSerpentar Member Posts: 246

The servers are temporaily locked.  Just means that once the other server populations catch up they will open that server again. Balancing both faction and servers..Understand its tough when you trying to join friends..but really you have another day and a half till head start.  Just try back at regular intervals.

  • drbaltazardrbaltazar Member UncommonPosts: 7,856

and pray .because if other server stays like this the closed one wont open up till the 22

lol ya, they got arrogant. They were sure that WAR was going to plunder WoW's population. They couldn't have been more wrong. NCsoft is doing the right thing by starting off with a few servers and let the game grow from that.
