Now that my eyes are bleeding from all the brown and orange I am curious. What were the graphics settings used by the person filming? And I remember all the boasts of 500 vs 500 sieges, how many was there total? 150 or so? The battle itself looked good but the music and the massive brown and orange background was painful. Why can no one film a siege somewhere pretty? Or at least less hurtful on the eyes.
Its a desert setting. Sand is orange, sky is orange but does change colors over time. As for why it doenst look like AoC on acid, its because fraps kills framerates and so does having 100+ players loading in one area. I was there myself and had no problems killing people with my bow. I have to actually aim with a bow, not use a brainless AOE spell.
Darkfall handles a huge group situation better than any other game I have played. There were more than 150 people fighting over this simple hamlet (owners lived on the other side of the world). I did not drop below 50 FPS. Then again, I have an ATI Radeon 4890. I hit up to 250 FPS when I am running around solo.
The definition of insanity: doing the same thing over and over expecting different results.
I knew the setting but still eyes bleed. Thanks for the other info though as I was curious. I actually thing L2 and DAoC handled true large player load better than other games.
Not even close. I mean I'm not the biggest DF fan by any means but one of its largest accomplishments is its ability to handle SEVERAL people on screen. AV made by far the most effecient engine to show the most people on screen. DF can handle a lot more people on mid end 2009 comps than L2 and DaoC could on mid end comps of their time. And remember that L2 and Daoc don't have real time combat.
The thing is, there is next to nothing to render in DFO. DAOC did handle large amounts better, from my experiences with both games. Hell a heal in DAOC had more animations then anything I ve seen in DFO. Keep takes with 200+ attacking and 150+ defending in a confined area, fighting on stairways leading up to a lords room In DAOC was smooth back in the day and I had a medium computer back then. You look at that video and most of it is in a big desert with nothing to render. As opposed to walls, many different spells, NPC guards, cloaks, etc etc.
Why does every Darkfall video I see of PvP look like a bunch of people running around flailing about randomly, or standing somewhere launching blue balls into the distance hoping it hits something? Doesn't look very epic to me.
PvP in any game is more impressive to watch if you understand what you're seeing. If you don't understand the significance of what you're seeing then all it looks like is a bunch of light effects and bunny hopping (this goes for any MMORPG PVP video with auto target).
At least in darkfall the videos are more natural and visceral because it's FPS based. Terrain, flanking, and moving as a coordinated group mean far more in this game than raw skill levels.
Over 200 people were involved in this battle. The battle itself took place over several square kilometers of grand manuevering.
See dozens of people firing from on top of a hlil down at an enemy force? They took the high ground for a reason. It's call suppressive fire. They're trying to keep the enemy from closing the distance.
How did the hill get taken? Focus and Flanking manuever. One force fires on the hill distracting them while a second force covertly moved to hit them from behind, allowing the first group to swarm up the hill once the hill was in chaos. Just as in real life battles are often decided once one side can close to killing range (melee) in an advantageous way.
The truly epic part is when they reform to assault the hill, but the enemy charges down after them. What ensues is a fluid battle line as the attackers do an orderly pull back while firing to draw the enemy further away from the objective city, and the enemies pursue aiming to outflank and destroy the attacking force. This line battle of flank and counter flank stretched for a kilometer at walking pace as each side battered down the other waiting for an opening to charge into melee.

Ugh Huh Huh, Huh Huh....He said....blue balls.
Currently Playing: Toying around with AoC and bored with Darkfall
Thinking of Playing: Fallen Earth or Darkfall after this months update.
Have Played: EQ1, EQ2, WoW, WAR, Vanguard, EvE, Requiem, PW, Lotro, Lineage2, AoC, SWG...
Since few are probably stupid enough to believe the second battle haflway through could be qualified as epic, I am left to assume that you are instead morons who didn't watch past the first couple minutes before commenting.
Well I downloaded the video (with Jdownloader) watched it carefully in a rainy evening with a coffe in my hand, and after that I assume DOF players tend to think quantity=epic. And I have had more epic battles 5 vs 5 in Team Fortress than this video.
PD. Why DOF players are so "we are so much better uber hard core gamers than the rest of the world carebears "?????????

In Darkfall in can happen you can loose gear worth several hours of gathering / PvE and sometimes equipment worth efforts of all clan members for several weeks. In a single fight..are you hardcore enough for being responsible having lost a man-o-war for example ? Could you face your clan if you sucked and loosed that in a fight being careless and possibly not following direct orders from your leaders?
DF is not like some lightweight combatants meet for fight and after reset the map , whats lost is lost in DF.
MMOChick says "Darkfall is rather hardcore". There you have it.

Darkfall's graphics look awful, there were a ton of glitches in the video, and the landscape looks totally barren. That said I think the fact that Darkfall has such harsh PVP consequences is awesome, the fact that in any fight you have a chance to lose everything you've worked so hard for is awesome. Yeah the fight may have looked like a cluster F but it was pretty cool, and just surviving a fight like that is really impressive. Thanks for the vid.

After watching this video I got kinda curious about something: is there any forests in Agon? I cant remember seeing a video with anything but open areas, like deserts and grassy plains and such...
that has to be one of the worst mmos i ever seen.. dude.. thats like.. a 1980s game might look better lol. Really. if you like and want to promote that game.. hide that video please hehe.
Can you please show an example of what you mean ?
Show an in game vid or we call it BS.

Probably because you don't play and can't figure out what's going on?

There is nothing to figure out... it's not as if those lemming man missle spamers are actually targeting specific roles or people.. *sigh*
That video is no different that the 40 (or so) other videos... it's nothing more than people chasing other people. Combat in Darkfall.. (actual combat) is pethetic. I'm sure many have fun riding next to their budz and talking smack as they are chasing people... but thats not COMBAT.

You have to watch until the halfway mark for the most epic part.

When I'm energetic I'm:
the Magic: The Gathering 'What Color Are You?' Quiz.
When I'm at default I'm:
WHITE/BLUE
Lol according to this I'm bipolar :O
that was epic?!?

Two things I notice that annoyed me all the time in game.
Any race any class guilds. Those just drove me batty.
If you watch the video and you see floaty people, yeah they crashed.
Happened all the time back in the day.

Other than that...looked relatively fun.
The definition of epic has changed quite a bit over the years.
I am sure that during some point in the earth's history pink legwarmers were considered epic.

So for DFO players to be hardcore is to lose hours of grinding, now I understand more things.
I could do not imagine a DFO players loosing a five year campaign character in Rolemaster without possibilities of resurrection.
any combat that involves "bunny hopping" is lame.
Im happy that my fellow sandbox fans are enjoying DF pvp
PLaying: EvE, Ryzom
Waiting For: Earthrise, Perpetuum
I felt the same way but after a while I got used to it.
