Looking for some knowledgeable advice on Aion...

PoonjabiPoonjabi Member UncommonPosts: 63

I have been following for Aion for a long time now.  I wasn't sure if I would enjoy the graphics because I despised the WoW cartoonish graphics.  But I decided that was no reason to discriminate against a game, so I am looking for a little bit of a response as to some of the things I consider important for an MMORPG.

How does the game look while playing?  Does it feel smooth?  Does it look well-rendered?

How would it run on my PC (Specs: ATI HD4870, Intel E8500 3.2GHz CPU, 4 GB Corsair Dominator, 320 GB Velociraptor HD)?  I ask because I would love to be able to keep my HD4870, but if need be, I could switch to a Nvidia, but only if necessary.

Is the game rich in content?  Is their plenty of options in leveling in terms of quests, areas, mobs, etc.?

Also, how is the auction system?  I really find myself disliking games that don't have that user-to-user auction house interaction.

Most of all, do you consider the game to be fun and interesting?

You don't have to answer these questions specifically, I just really want to know these basic things, and then I wil make a final verdict based on my own opinions!  Thanks again for your time!

If you have been following this game as you said you have, then you should already know the answers

Man, I really don't mean to be rude, but there's page after page of threads on this very forum with all the info you're asking for...and the rest of your post kinda negates the first statement.  Besides, you're asking for other people to spend their time explaining, all while spending none researching for yourself...

     computer is very very good

combat need getting used to but game is smooth .

I was just looking for some people with first-hand experiences with the game.  Not generally a breakdown of the storyline between factions, etc.  I just want to know how the game feels/performs.  Not what the world revolves around.  Sorry if I didn't make it clear.  Not trying to annoy either, and if it did, you should have just tossed the thread to the wayside and forgot about it.  By responding, you just wasted your time on something you really didn't have to.  The faults on you, not my  lack of picking through threads.  I'm just asking opinions.

Thank you for your response.  I saw the combat looked very interesting with placement during combat to maximize damage, I thought that was very cool.  Good to hear the game runs smooth, after going through the launch of Age of Conan, I couldn't stand another fiasco like that.  I sort of figured it would run smoothly since it's been out in the asian market for a little while now, but you never know, just thought I'd ask.

You're system is pretty equal to mine, and mine runs amazingly smooth, with graphics at all of the highest settings, so that won't be an issue for you.

The gameplay is fun.  I've never ran out of quests to do while leveling, in fact I've ended up abandoning quite a few because I leveled past them before I could complete them, making them not worth the time to complete.  Personally, thats what I want to see with quests.

Combat is fun and fast.  You don't just sit there and spam a single attack button, it's much more engaging than that.

The game would run just fine on your computer.

It has a lot of content (note that most of it is near end game). for a game that is only one year old I would say aion has more than you would expect.

AH is ok but not the best,  There is a limit on how much you can add, and the search function could be better.

For me, yea it's lotz of fun and well worth the money.

That's perfect.  As I read through some things, I couldn't believe the amount of people claiming this to be a grind-fest.  I don't mind sometimes just going out and killing things to yield some exp, but I had a hard time to imagine in this day and age of the MMORPG that their wouldn't be a surplus of quests.

Cool cool.  As long as the auction house is functional and is generally a solid means in acquiring some gear/items/etc that's good enough for me.  Thanks for your input, so far so good.

I have a similar rig to yours and it definitely plays ine on mine even with high settings. The gameplay is good but needs some getting used to if you havent played anything other than WoW. If you have played the Assassin in Guild Wars then it should be fairly easy for you to grasp, the animations are good, I wouldn't say they are fluid but definitely work to a level of polish and follow one another perfectly especially when you are able to land a continued combo (landing this is just plain heavenly). All in all the game is very well done and is worth a month's trial at least.

    This is not a game.

I agree with most of the responses.  There is plenty of info out there for you to decide if you want to play or not.  I, personnally,  like the  overall design of the game, where there is an actual storyline.  Most of the mmo's, is just grind and kill, with very little or no storyline.  They have balanced the story with the quests, pvp, side quests, and overall advancement.  If you don't try, you will never know.  Maybe I will see you online and maybe not..  You probably should wait until all critics have their say before venturing into the unknown.

omg-do I have to do this?

  • PoonjabiPoonjabi Member UncommonPosts: 63

Thank you so much for everyones answers.  I appreciate the honesty, and I have already begun looking into ordering the game digitally.  If I were to order now digitally, when it's still considered a pre-order, do I still have the option to create my character and select my server once the digital download is complete? Also, does it come with a free 30 days?

  • ZeroxinZeroxin Member UncommonPosts: 2,515

Should come with a free 30 days always. Also the pre-order will work as long as it's still considered a pre-order on the site you bought it at or as long as the game hasn't launched yet.

    This is not a game.

  • PoonjabiPoonjabi Member UncommonPosts: 63

I actually just placed an order for a digital download.  Do I have to wait until a designated time before I can start downloading the software?

Nope.  I bought the game on Thursday, downloaded it, and have my first two characters created via the head start (I think that's what it's called) program.  Probably be a patch before going live, but that should be it I believe.

Thanks man.  I had to contact EBgames.com.  For some reason they didn't send me the email and it got lost.  Got it now and in the process of DLing.  Thanks again for the help!

Go to youtube and check out all of the great videos of the game. That should give you some idea as to what to expect.

You'll notice with the AH unless they've changed it you have to type item you are looking for exact. What I mean by this is you can't type "sword of death" or "sword death" you actually have to capitalize it "Sword of Death".

Cleric, Templar, Sorcerer, Spiritmaster, Ranger, and Assassin to round the small group off.

    Legion name is EpicFail

Any reason why I can't connect in order to update the client?  Been waiting for it to connect for about 30 minutes.

Interesting, that's the server I rolled on.  Rolled Elyos though so I guess that makes us mortal enemies.

    1. For god's sake mmo gamers, enough with the analogies. They're unnecessary and your comparisons are terrible, dissimilar, and illogical.

    2. To posters feeling the need to state how f2p really isn't f2p: Players understand the concept. You aren't privy to some secret the rest are missing. You're embarrassing yourself.

    3. Yes, Cpt. Obvious, we're not industry experts. Now run along and let the big people use the forums for their purpose.

I had some trouble with NCSofts updater as well this week.  Other than the obvious server hiccup issue, I would say keep trying.  Exit the updater.. and try the right click options for the Aion bar.  (pause, repair .. etc.)
