I'll admit. I'm a recent follower. I've been looking for a PvP centric game similar to DAOC. I left that game after Mythic put too much emphasis on the PvE grind. I read as much as I could find on the game. DnL seems to be the game of my dreams, given they are able to provide all that they promise. However, one thing bothers me, Is DnL too big?
With so much space, are there going to be enough people to fill it all. With 10450 possible siege points, I just can't see getting to all of them in the entire length of the time spent playing. Now, perhaps thats a good thing because I won't run out of places to explore, but it seems like there will be a lot of wasted space with players spread out over such a large area. I fear not running into another soul in some of the less popular kingdoms.
Another problem I see is, with the high server population, there are going to be VERY large battles. DAOC's servers could barely handle 100 person fights. Despite the promises, I just don't see 1000 person sieges being feasible in the near future. I wonder if anybody could point me to an article about this subject because I've really not been able to find one.

They're using an engine that can handle what they want to do, and if everyone is on the same server, it wont be desolate anywhere. Trust me.
Too big? Never...
I do not doubt that there will be some empty areas....but is that necessarilly a bad thing if your out hunting?
This is definitely the game of my dreams also! I've been following for a long time now....and pheening more and more as release gets closer.
The game uses "travelling servers". Instead of the normal servers where they cover a specified area...these will go where they need to go. **NOT the right terms, but hopefully that help.

I can't even begin to imagine what it will be like to have over 100,000 people playing in one dynamic world
itll be really cool :P
I only have one qualm, i hope there is at least a nationality server. I really dont want to play on one world full of international people, not that i dont like them, just way too many language barriers
There will be only one server cluster with everyone from around the world
I think it will be cool.
Me2
I absolutely love the fact that it is ONLY 1 server!!!

Well, do you live in a world where everyone speaks english?
No. But I don't pay to be alive :P
How're you going to feel if kingdoms you want to be involved in are predominatenly one nationality or another? I hate when people make examples just for the sake of them. I'm sure you understand my point. It should be one server per nationality. Not one giant server for all. Going to be all sorts of communication issues because of that, and beyond that I simply just don't like playing around foreigners :P When I played SWG, If I went on the Kauri server it was mostly french and pissed me off or on the European servers (well I cant blame them ,it was the European server :P) people were speaking all sorts of languages. It starts to funnel out into everything, into the mechanics, the items, the shops, the whole community. I just don't feel comfortable. I love DNL but this is going to be a hard hurdle for me to jump over. I'm really hoping there will be int'l servers if they plan on a global launch, which is what appears to be the plan.
It could simply be European and American and that'd be enough big deal, two worlds :P
It seems the the more people you have in the DnL world, the more fun it will be. The language barrier did occur to me, but I think having multiple servers (even 2) would hurt the game. Sure English will be the primary with all American's, most Euros being able to speak it. There will no doubt be cliques of French, German, ect speaking, but with 100,000 people there should be plenty of others to associate with.
I just hope we get the numbers I'm reading the game will attract. Its not really a high market game like EQII or WOW.
Might not hurt the game if they literally have large enough a population. If they hit the 200k mark (all countries combined) I'd say it could warrant a Intl / American server set up. Meh.
Because of distance lag and language I would like to eventually see 3 servers set up. North America, Europe, and Asia. I think it would just make things much easier on everyone.
But just to clear things up while there will be one world it is not one server. They are clustering the servers. So depending on what part of the world you are in you will be on a particular server. That way it will help to mitigate lag. The only real issue will be when there are a lot of people in an area putting a load on that server and a large battle is also taking place. To me that is the only worry.
DnL is the only game I think might get me away from DAOC so I hope it turns out well.
EVE Online has been running with the 1 server 1 world approach for 2 years now.... Its absolutly fantastic, and I've never had any problems with language barriers etc.
most europeans you can just ask to speak english...70% of europeans can communicate with decent english and 85% can atleast understand it...

It's called XML extensible UI, and I'm not sure. Possibly. EQ2 has it, real nice feature ( I dont play EQ2 :P)
Eve's technology is incredible. The game setup is AWESOME!!! Overall EVE is one the best designed MMORPG....
The only downfall....I just couldn't stand being a spaceship the whole time!
