I believe this is mostly because Ranger is one of the most difficult and slow leveling classes to play in Aion (I have heard this from many people, I did not get very far on my own). They also have to purchase ammo, which while not terribly expensive, is an added cost.
In the open Beta I only had limited time to play - I got my Ranger up to 18, and had a lot of fun with it.
The ammo buying thing seemed pretty reasonable. That seems to be a common trend in all ranger-esque archtypes in MMOs, make those guys buy ammo, hehe.
I don't mind if the leveling is slower, or even if they don't rate very high on the leaderboards. I pay for MMOs to have fun, and playing the flavor I like is more fun for me than playing the fotm perfect spec to pwn with. ;-)

I think when the game opens to the public we're going to see a rush of stealth-types, which will be replaced gradually by easier and more durable classes like chanters. Quite the contrary actually. I believe most people are gonna start off by playing durable healing classes such as the Cleric and Chanter and basically deem them the Paladin classes of Aion. By the time they hit mid 20s or 30s or wherever the switch off may be, they're most likely going to roll something else. To sum it up, I think the healing classes like Chanters and Clerics will be replaced later on with more and more Assassins because the stealth mechanic is a huge advantage in any PvP game.
Hmm... I was really talking about the first week or so. There were an awful lot of scouts in the OB newbie areas. But yes, I agree that that will likely happen in the long run.
I'm going to be playing a Sorcerer. Usually been an up close class in other mmo's so I want to try the distance aspect. Played as a Sorc in the Open Beta and loved it.
I'm going to be a Gladiator. I like that I can use two swords, use a pole for AOE and sword/shield if I need to tank in a small group. I've always played nothing but melee classes also.

Cleric here.
Personally, from early polls showing such higher numbers for priests, I was really concerned about their being entirely too many (even in this thread, around 35% priests atm), but realistically, as much interest as there is people won't stick them out in the long run. If they do, never too many heals (unless all your DPS is dead).
But yeah, grass is greener effect will settle in shortly after release, and people will see something they like better than their own class and jump on that train be it squishies seeing priest's survivability and saying "omg" or priests seeing squishy kill-speed and doing the same. Should be interesting.

I'll be playing a Gladiator. Momma always said I was good at smashing other people's legs in.

from my beta experience with a glad youre better off sticking with the pole and stacking your armor with parry stones, allows you to tank better then a glad with a shield and almost as well as a templar with a shield and alot of shield block stones

Does the pole have a lot of the Parry stat? I don't remember. Also, what did you think of the 2 handed great sword?

2 handed swords were junk at least in the level capped portion of the game, poles are alot slower and thus hit for alot more and crit for much more. 2 handed swords were basically a 1 handed sword that took up 2 slots.

That's disappointing to hear. I used a Pole, but I really wanted to use a 2 handed sword, granted they were useful to some degree. Doesn't sound like it though

Velika: City of Wheels: Among the mortal races, the humans were the only one that never built cities or great empires; a curse laid upon them by their creator, Gidd, forced them to wander as nomads for twenty centuries...
I loved my warlock in WoW and was wondering if SM is gonna be the same. Since Sorc seems to be high in DD and AOE where does the SMs dmg come from?
From there pets and the SM backs up the pet's damage with DOT's & CC's.

2Hander taking up two slots ? That sounds like Duel Weld to me.
Greatswords work just fine, I will be using one unless I get a good poleaxe in a drop.

Chanter as my main, and a Gladiator/Templar (haven't decided) as my alt.
So... how come such little attention to Ranger?
Doesn't anyone want to *pew*pew*pew* their way to vicroty... I do!
No really, the Ranger looked sweet and its what I want, but the poll indicates a heart-felt "MEH!" to the Ranger class.
Do the Beta players know something I should know about Rangers that is bad news or something? Please say it.
