Here are a few thoughts from a 32 year old girl gamer, who has played numerous MMO's, giving them all a fair shot where they all seemed to crap out at around level 20.
I think it is safe to say most of us are quite gun shy with bad MMO release after bad MMO. Aion is NOT a bad MMO, in fact thus far I'd say it kicks EQ2 and Lineage's bootay, and is nipping at the heels of WoW, which means it will quite possibly be one of the most successful MMO's of our time. Could that change as time goes on? Yes, but from the makers of Guild Wars, City of Heroes, and Lineage, I highly doubt this game will suddenly appear totally unfinished at level 20.
So far, I feel quite taken by surprise. I'm enjoying the very smooth bug free game play, enjoying questing and the newness of it all. Aion is different enough to provide a sense of adventure, but familiar enough to slip right into that comfort spot where playing your character comes naturally. Not to mention, it sure is an attractive game. At first I wasn't too sure about the more asian art direction, it's not my cup of tea, but I'm really starting to enjoy the way it looks.
The launch has gone beautifully. It's been a quiet release, no crazy fanfare or people shouting from the streets, though a few childish comments about queues, which was not only expected, but not felt across all realms.
I do get a sense that everyone playing the game and enjoying it is afraid to cry wolf and afraid of yet another terrible let down. If things continue to unfold in the same manner as the starter zones, then I've found my new home.
The bottom line? I'm having fun at 5:51 in the morning, and that has to account for something. The only other game ever able to make me loose track of time until the wee hours... was Classic WoW. I'm 32, I have to wake up my youngins and send them off to school in 40 minutes, and here I sit. That has to account for something.

I kind of have the same sentinemts as you do. I think the most important element that NCsoft got right so far is that it is very polished and feels finished.

Not quite the same makers as those games, the same publisher. Guildwars is developed by Arenanet (who are on another continent and have little to do with Aion), City of Heroes are developed by Cryptic studios and the Lineage team is hard at work on Lineage 3.
I dare to say there are MORE people like you (let me call them Aion converts) than the people who seem to flood the forums (negative nancies).
Only thing is, the converts are either too busy playing or are not forum dwellers.
Welcome fellow daeva
What I like mostly in aion is that they finally changed the dull stealth force on rogues. I love rogues but in almost all games all your best skills are when stealthed then the normal ones are average but in aion you can use them whenever you want.
Glad to hear Aion is doing well, just hope you take good care of your kids!

hehe yeah, I know what you mean by the hours slipping away... too easy to let happen in this game
Don't worry about the haters (who feel their own games are threatend by Aion's potentiol success) and shills (who are paid to create negative viral threads)... they have their own agendas that has little to do with the game itself. Thiese forums are particularly bad for them. Add to that the white noise of pure idiot that also posts here and you have a tough environment for any MMO to succeed in.
Loving Aion for what it is, not hating it for what it isnt
Patronising / assuming much?
Really.
IM EX-WOW PRO PLAYER AND I THINK THIS GAME IS GOOD. TAKE FROM ME A EX-PRO IN WOW. CYA
Most fun I've had in years playing mmorpg's.

Pretty much how I feel. I already kinda knew what to expect from NCsoft after playing Lineage 2 for quite some time, and they have delivered for me. They just need to work on the EU queues (assume its the same in US) then everything will be dandy.
Its been a long time since the launch of any MMO where my own personal concerns amount to nothing more than nit-picking. Aion is really, really solid as it stands.
Yes, I agree with the above comments, very solid and very fun. I look forward to *finally* having something fresh and new to adventure in.
BTW The kids just ate hot pancakes, lunches packed, cute clothes on, backpacks ready, and my oldest is getting ready to take the puppy for a quick walk before we all go to the bus stop together... thank you very much.
Cryptic hasn't had anything to do with CoH in quite awhile. And the game is better off for it, IMHO.
CoH is completely NCSoft's baby now.
Would you say this MMO is particularly appealing to females?
Uhm, you mean from the publisher of Guildwars. NC soft have nothing to do whatsoever with the content of GW.
Lineage 1 & 2 however is their games.
If Aion can keep the subs for years or not is something we just have to see, some other games were fun at first but got boring after a month or so, like WAR. It seems to be going well in Korea but Lineage 2 went great there but have few players in the west.
So it is anybodys guess, but the game is beutiful, that is for sure.
Are they getting drunk and stoned on the weekend, while you turn tricks, now that's a quality mom. Do you get choked out by your pimp.
I'm soo soo sorry, I couldn't resist to much Dave Chapel .....no filters no filters my bad.
