Resuscribed to play with a friend who is using a trial. And all I have to say is, everyone i have talked to is very rude. Not sure why, but you ask a question in general chat and get called a noob. No one ever gives advice or a little bit of help. Guess the elitists have nothing better to do.

Ugh, are there any online games(online games, not just MMOs) where players aren't like that, unless they have special rules that ban you if you do that?
The simplistic nature of the game makes every players secretly hating themselves from playing it; unable to express this hate toward themselves because it would force them to admit the pointlessness nature of the activity they devote their time to, they need to vent their anger on the first person who dare ask a question on a system they know is so simple that a 5-years old could do it.
This is why people in WoW are rude.
Oh and the fact the majority of players are angry teenagers eager to "make a point" and "look cool" doesn't help.
My addiction History:
>> EQ1 2000-2004 - Shaman/Bard/Wizard/Monk - nolife raid-whore
>> WoW 2004-2009 + Cataclysm for 2 months - hardcore casual
>> Current status : done with MMO, too old for that crap.

Funny how for such a simple question and comment, it automatically is required to insult everyone who plays the game. Did you even consider what the questions might have been? Or how it was asked?
I am always the first one that will respond in chat when someone asks a question as long as it is a valid question. Now granted, I have no idea what the OP asked, but I have seen my fair share of questions that should never be asked in chat for many different reasons (not appropriate, answer is easy to figure out, asked in a demanding way, etc....).
So before you condemn the entire playerbase and insult us all, I think its best to find out what was asked and how it was asked (which can make a huge difference). You give the OP the benefit of the doubt because of your bias hatred towards WOW; I do not.
Remember not to take everything you read seriously, otherwise one might think you give credence to what you read on the internet

Anyway, how could you miss BC? If you didn't kill Illidan pre-nerfs you didn't play WoW
Anyway, how could you miss BC? If you didn't kill Illidan pre-nerfs you didn't play WoW
Dammit, i missed the opportunity to experience the 0,01% of WoW that DID matter? My life is pointless...

Indeed the WoW community is very rude, from the low lvl 1's, to the top guild leader on every server. Its either because the game is so easy that it holds your hand fo you if you read the quest lines (usually), or the people are just jerks.
Funny that MMORPG communities used to frown on idiodic behavior. If you were a jerk in EQ, you had a very hard time finding groups, but in WoW its all abotu how fast you can solo, and how fast you can screw over other players.
It's not that the community are elitists, high level players that are mature but tired of noobs will most likely not answer.
I think you found a bunch of kids, cause that's what kids do !

nonsense, everyone knows that the Kael'thas Sunstrider fight in tk was way harder than illidan
I can say for a fact if you asked almost any generic question in general chat on my server you will get 9001 insults before you received 1 helpful response.
Most of these people are standing around waiting for arenas- a bunch of arena jerks really. Most of the pve elitist simply leave trade and general chat off.
I usually helped people out, but I have 2 tabs, 1 with tade and general, one without (my spam toggle fyi).
I just started aion today and quit because people being assholes, I thing aion players is all ex-wow sobs
I think a big part of it is stupid questions that you could google the answer to in about three seconds. I don't mean to be rude, and I'll be the first to answer a good question, but when someone asks, for the 9000th time, where the weapon trainer in Org is... c'mon, guys. Learn to figure shit out on your own.
I could tell you all that my neighbor glued up my mail box and let my dog lose, you all think "what a jerk" what I didn't tell you was that I previously I keyed his car, call his mother a hoe and dug up his prize carrots.
Too sides to every story, we have only only one side.

Yes in some games the player base is very helpful. When i played Warhammer it was filled with a lot of players who didn't know what they were doing but had an upbeat attitude about it. Including a tank who had no idea what the purpose of taunt was.
In champions online i would say the majority of the community is helpful except for a few loud mouths who shout the same internet cliched insults and try to take quest items while you are fighting mobs. Even though the game is so solo friendly who it only takes 5 seconds to kill a group of henchmen yourself.
If you are really about finding a helpful community and one that doesn't flame you for questions, LOTRO is the mmo for you. The lack of pvp in that game turns me off, but the community itself (Brandywine that is) is worth the subscription.

Maybe mmo players just like to act up when in larger crowds and it is not specific to any game. Aion is a pvp game, so it is just going to attract more and amplify that effect.
It is the same story in almost every game I have ever played for the last ten years. There are jerks in every game, just like there are great people in every game.
@OP
I pug raids and dungeons all the time in wow without incident. Even the ones that are just plain aweful, people are generally nice to each other.
If I ask nicely, I get nice replies. If I don't ask stupid questions, I don't get stupid replies. If I don't ask something that can be found in a few seconds on a web browser, then there generally just isn't a problem asking a question.
Saying no one EVER helps or is nice... well maybe that is just something specific to you.
"Where are the Fel Cones?" "Where is Mankrik's Wife?" If I hear either of those questions one more time, I will cut something.
Seriously, though, the nature of the questions and the way it is phrased has an enormous impact on the response. You would be amazed how far a little politeness goes. In addition, as I indicated, a lot of this is also due to the fact that most of the "elite" players have heard the same questions again and again and again, and it grows tiresome. That is not to say everyone should automatically know, but it does get old, so to speak.
However, the comment about self-hate is not entirely wrong. Gaming can be an addiction for some people, and like many addicts, they hate themselves for partaking. That cannot stop themselves, but they cannot stand that they do it. However, I do not think it is just with WoW, and I do not think it has to do with the simplistic nature of the game, although it is certainly true it is simplistic. An easy to play game is not more simplistic than a complicated one. You accomplish the same thing in both.
Absolutely nothing.
But it is fun if you do not let it become an addiction. And if it is not an addiction, you will certainly have more fun playing.
Edit:
WERE R TEH FEL CONS!
"Gamers will no longer buy the argument that every MMO requires a subscription fee to offset server and bandwidth costs. It's not true you know it, and they know it." Jeff Strain, co-founder of ArenaNet, 2007
WTF? No subscription fee?
After playing WOW for a few years, quitting, return and playing again the general attitude for WOW people is this;
I want what I want when I want it & if I don't get it I'll lie, cheat, steal to get it or switch guilds.
Thats about it.
All these uber guilds are a joke. Its a collection of people who work together to get items they want. They don't even like each other. Most of them actively backstab each other. The uber guild is usually lead by a clique of 3-4 people who will more then likely jump ship and start over elsewhere if things don't go their way.
Its funny I levelled up to 60 with another cleric, mage and hunter. They were or so I thought, great people. We got along fine, grouped daily. I'd log in and they'd send a message asking what we're doing today. Along comes 6o and they join the resident uber guild.
Holy personality change batman. Suddenly they were too good for me. One day the cleric / mage ask me for help doing a quest. I stop what I'm doing and go all the way there to help. They die once in the process. A few of their guildmates show up join the group. Next thing I know I'm kicked from the group and one of the new arrivals states, "Guild only."
I send a tell to my so called friends, "wtf?" The replye, "Sorry."
That was it, they proceed to do this quest and then leave. /ignore both of them. Oh and I hold grudges.
I was levelling a twink and I always make sure to keep my 60 close by in case some douche decides to interfere. I notice someone asking for help at the gurubashi arena. Log on my 6o goto check it out and theres a lower level warlock trying to get the chest being pestered by 3-4 lower level alliance. I'm all for it then the warlock sends me a tell saying it is my old "friend" the cleric... who ditched me. Oh, guess what... CYA. Went back to what I was doing.
You'll find a great many people in WOW who are your friends so long as you benefit them. Once you don't they'll toss you to the curb like a bag of garbage.
I've only scanned over a few posts in this thread so I won't pretend to know each and every point and complaint but what I've read is kinda silly, IMO. Some of the things that people are mentioning are issues I've dealt with in other games and I've come to just accept that this is reality and move on. People don't have to be "real" or "genuine" online, least of all in a game where people are bound to want to compete. This is why you be smart and play with those players you like. Quality over quantity. I have a guild and, yeah, it's small...I'm having a hard time getting it going but I've got my boyfriend and brother in it and a loyal player who has been helping for weeks. I've had people donate money knowing we're working hard and while I'd like there to be more people, I don't need a bunch of people trying to rip me off. It sucks that that's how things are but that's just life.
As for the nasty replies some people get after asking a question...seen that, too. Everywhere. Again, I ignore it. You know how I figure out where things are that I don't already know and can't find myself?
Search. Engine.
This stuff is everywhere and I only just started a month ago so if I can figure it out, I should think most others should be able to do it as well. The only ones I can see having a problem are the younger players although I have a middle schooler in my guild who figured it all out on his own just fine.
