Help me build a force character

NeonShadowNeonShadow Member UncommonPosts: 326

Posted this in the CO forums, but since  it only got one vague reply, I'm posting it here in hope of getting more answers:

Since my friend quit playing I'm having a hard time with my sorcerer since he's built as a support guy. Now I want to start from scratch with a Force character who can hold his own. I actually haven't got much done, since I'm still pretty clueless, and I was hoping some of you people could help me with my super stats, some skills/buffs and such I might want to pick. Even in-direct help such as tips that might benefit me with this character and future characters are welcome.

Anyway, here is what I've got done so far:

Build by championBuilder 0.3.2

Download this Build here.

Template: Level 40 Champion

Superstats:

Level 5: Super Recovery

Level 13: Super Constitution

Powers:

Level 1: Force Bolts

Level 1: Force Blast -- Rank 2, Rank 3

Level 5: Force Eruption

Level 5: Swinging

Level 8: Force Shield -- Rank 2, Rank 3, Force Sheath

Level 11: Regeneration -- Rank 2, Rank 3

Level 14: Containment Field

Level 17: Force Cascade -- Rank 2

Level 20: Force Detonation -- Rank 2

Talents:

Level 1: Impetus

Level 6: Tireless

Level 9: Enduring

Level 12: Quick Recovery

As you can see, I'm pretty clueless as to what I should take beyond level 20. I've got some ideas, like maybe a summon to help deal some damage while I'm blocking/recovering, but beyond that, I'm all void.

Someone on the CO forums told me that I should superstat Strength, but I don't know.  I'm thinking maybe Ego/Dex. Still don't know what skills to take beyond level 20.

i'm ego/dex and loving it...very very powerful when you get crits

As for what you should take.  Personally i dont bother with min/maxing i'd rather build a character concept.

Anyway i suggest maybe some more attacking powers...maybe become a bit more versitile (your pretty screwed if someone has a high resistance to force attacks for example).  Try and grab more of a mixture of skills (ranged, melee) and pick up another pool of powers to complement your force powers and bypass any force resistances.

    MMO wish list:

    -Changeable worlds
    -Solid non level based game
-Sharks with lasers attached to their heads

I'm not trying to min/max, but I'm just trying to make sure that I don't super stat stats that clash with each other (I heard that certain stats go to certain equipment slots, so I'm trying to avoid having two super stats in the same equipment slot).

And I was thinking of maybe getting some Darkness skills post level 20. Maybe also get that summon like I said. I know March of the Dead is very good, but what about the other ones (like the one in telepathy? The summon horror or something?).

My force blaster is 24 now, and does well.

I stuck with the recommended super stats of End and Ego,  but I split up my talents.  I picked talents to up my dex / recovery.  So far I have a good solo build with decent grouping / support. For gear I try to mix in constitution / dex / recovery.  Force is very heavy on knockbacks...

    Force bolts

Force blast R3  ST damage is very nice and with a good mix of dex/ego crits 1k

Force eruption with advantage that gives me a damage buff in the area, forget what its called.

Personal force field rank 2 at the moment , I know its one of if not the worst of the passive defenses but I think regen is on the chopping block due to pvp and PFF follows my concept.  I find PFF effective but not "super"

Field surge -  heals your PFF

Force shield - active block , with the force sheathe advantage keeps my 214 max energy bar full

Protection field -  force fields others and has a 52 energy cost, so you need minimum recovery to get that number if you want to buff someone before combat

I didn't like the force crowd control so I went with sleep in the tele tree with the fear advantage, works well on villains and lower, and charges for an AOE effect .  Good for solo questing... sleep the villain quickly dispatch (2 charged force blasts each) the henchman

Ranged AOE - I went to the fire tree, picked fireball and changed the color to blue...  I really don't like the heavy knockbacks from force in AOE...   counter-intuitive to grouping if the melee is running down scattered / bubbled enemies.  Your endurance plays a role here... with 214 max and a full bar fireball can crank some serious damage without a knockback effect.  I'll probably go rank 2 and the lingering DOT advantage

Eventually I'll pick a heal of some sort and mix in some other situational stuff circles / auras but I have the core concept covered

I can't really comment past lev 24...  Once past your choosing of superstats, focus on recovery enough to cast protection field in groups.  Dex and Ego to achieve somewhere close to 9% crit and 70-80% severity.  And I can't say enough about getting your energy bar as large as you possibly can for serious charged range aoe's... even if you stick in the force tree for them
