We all know this is a Star Wars game, we all know some pretty epic battles were fought in space. We also know STO is inlcuding both space and ground game. So with all that in mind do you think Space should be included at launch? Or do you not care? Or do you think it's ok to buy it as an expansion like we had to do with JTL? Keep in mind people complained about that back in SWG, and SOE eventually had to give the expansion away free since they found they couldn't add content with space parts since most people didn't own the expansion.

This may sound wierd being a fan of Star Wars in general. But I hated flying in SWG. It didn't feel to fun, don't ask why, I couldnt point out why even if I wanted to. So I could deal with it releasing without it. But would I prefer it to release with it? Yes, because it gives it a broader appeal to people that may find this type of game play interesting.
I'm fine with or without it. But I'm more on the I can wait for it side since they've already announced that it won't be in the initial launch but would come later further down the line :]
The TOR forums are filled with fucking idiots. I doubt half of them even ever hit level cap in an MMO. I can't believe they want Space Combat so much.
It's not a big deal...
I'm the same, I never enjoyed it in SWG.
Playing: Tera, BF3, ME3
Waiting on: Guild Wars 2
Well to have the game with the biggest bang at launch, I can wait. I've waited since 2005 when the rumors first popped up (and most folks doubted all of it). And a lot the people you speak of are Star Wars fans or from SWG (the non pissed vets), the rest are MMO noobs from WoW and elitist asshats from DAoC (who most likely won't be in the game at launch, they just followed Sean D over).
So yeah! I can wait if they needed extra time to do it right.
My only concern with space combat is how they plan to turn it into something enjoyable instead of shooting random ships out of the sky. If they could some how implement a large chunk of story into it, I would probably enjoy it. I guess I'm one of those people that need a good driving force behind something like this. Even getting a ship needs to be intresting, but I'll be cliche and say "It's BioWare" of coarse there will be some intersting point in the story to how you got your first ship, kinda like the Ebon Hawk
I'd wait as long as it took. As long as they do it right, whatever right is in their eyes. I'd be kinda disappointed if I waited a year and it was lame. If they decide to do it, I hope they will make the most of it. Especially if they charge an expansion price. But, ya. Depending on what it was, I'd wait. With still so little info on the game, I don't know if I would be playing while I wait hehe.
See you in the dream..
The Fires from heaven, now as cold as ice. A rapid ascension tolls a heavy price.
I'm in no rush to play a crappy or unfinished game. Take as long as it takes for the game to be done.
I really love the idea of haveing a dual mmo.. Space and land. I just hope they follow through with more of a storyline. SWG made Jump to light speed and thats what brought me to the game. But no expansions were done for the space story and soon the game fell cold. Make being in space a part of the character ie Pilot/ smuggler. I'll gladly wait for a good dual pupose MMO.
I felt JTLS in SWG was pretty lame. It didn't feel very fun or exciting at all and just bored me to tears. I felt like I was hardly moving at all in space, just ever-so-slow-ly moving towards that space station and shooting slow moving ships.
If TOR wants to do it right, I think you should have a much faster-paced space flight section. I'd also like the ability to put it on autopilot and go "inside" your ship and walk around. Like the interior of a smuggler's ship, so if you're being boarded or something for illegal smuggling you could quickly hide the stuff in hidden compartments or something before it's too late.
It sounds really complicated for all those kinds of things though.
I really like JTLS actually, I mean now, if I ever decided to go back to SWG it would be for the flight combat rather then the land combat. I had a great time flying, upgrading my ship.. searching for the best parts.. once I had the best I could have, I thought the combat was much faster paced and rather exciting at times... moreso then what the NGE ended up offering.
Anyways, I would love to see some flight combat... and I would wait for it.. but not TOO long... I think they're already kicking around this idea... star wars had a great majority of its battles in space, I think it would be a mistake to prolong space battles for a year or two. The expansion might be great, but a stronger game out of the box will assist in the entirety of the game in the long run. Plus it would allow for more creative content down the line rather then slapping down a SWG staple after the fact.
I liked a lot of JtLS. But it also left a lot out and there came a point in time when it was effectively a massive grind for .001 difference in turn radius, or speed, or damage.
My biggest complaint though was that it really didn't matter. It was like its own completely seperate game, and the pilots often segregated themselves from ground pounders. I could think of probably 100 ideas that would've made all the difference in the world.
Faction controlled beacons orbiting the planet. If your faction controls the beacons, then any officer called air strike does more damage. Or, if you don't have control, then its possible that the skill will fail completely.
If your faction doesn't control all beacons, you can't 'travel' to the system, you have to fly there. You can fly yourself, or pay a smuggler who would pit their flying ability and skills vs. imperial NPCs and PCs.
Smuggling missions, taken from ground NPCs, that pay 100k+ credits, but make you inspectable and then PvP targetable if you're carrying contraband or unlawful travelers.
Group Operated Capital Ships ...
... etc etc etc
Ever hear of the Death Star? I know it's a different era, but space battles were prime turning points in most of the films.
I would not even try this game without space combat. It isn't Star Wars without it.

I really don't care about space content so long as I can get world to world and quest to quest.
I think it would be a really cool addition if, real players could come to smugglers in the game and pay them to smuggle something to another planet. Like the smugglers would have to travel through a heavy NPC populated section of space where whenever they went through with "illegal contraband" they could possibly be boarded or whatever.
I hope they take the time to implement space travel/combat in the game.
Star wars needs space, laubching the game without it would be a major let down for a lot of possible costumers.
wtb tie-fighter style sim i would be there all the time

Have you played or even heard the story of KOTOR? The Star Forge was a greater feat than the Death Stars ever were.
I agree though.

Without space combat the game will be incomplete IMO. I don't know why they would even consider making a Star Wars game without some form of space combat.
I have no desire to be one of the 15 million Jedi running around on launch day but I would like the chance to be one of the 15 million pilots on launch day
I believe that they will supplement some sort of space combat by launch. I'm not so sure about space exploration, but space combat could be a simple mini-game addition for them.
I wish, though, that there was a way to go from planet to space without a loading screen or something similar involved. It sounds like it would take up a lot more space than necessary (especially after seeing how far BW is going in giving us spectacular content on a grand scale), so I don't really see that happening in the near future. But as this industry evolves; as we've all seen, we will one day reach a seamless MMO game style that will revolutionize the industry and gaming as a whole.
Until then, I can handle a little load screen, as I'm sure everyone else can. Of course, I'm assuming that no one could be defeated by a load screen; that everyone is mature enough to wait a few seconds and still feel some sense of immersion. Call me ignorant or naive.

Cool concept.

I don't think space content is essential to a Star Wars game, as some of my favorite SW games have no space content at all. It would be cool to have a little space combat in the game, but it's not something that I'd miss. I'd hate if the game was delayed for it.
KotOR. How much space combat did it have?
Think before you post.
