MMO Launch Day Battle: Aion vs. Fallen Earth

So, it was big launch day yesterday for MMO players. Both Fallen Earth and Aion launched, and both had early-access launches as well.

Barring any discussions about the features, play styles in each game, etc. (since they are quite different from each other), provide your thoughts on how the launch went for these MMO's, and if you plan on subscribing with either of these games.

Thanks in advance!

I'm not an makeup wearing, asian grind fest loving, sexually uncertain EMO.. So I'll give Fallen Earth a go.

There, that should create a fun thread. ;)

From my experience, most people don't really care for one or the other.

I'm in a huge multi-game clan and it's pretty much split in half between FE & Aion. None of the FE guys have any want to play Aion and vise versa.

So it's not really a "battle" so much. Not to mention Aion has been extremely hyped and FE being a niche indy game (alot smaller) it hasn't really gotten the hype I think it deserves. Aion is going to win, no doubt. Not because it's a better game, it just appeals to a wider market.

If you're a fan of Fallout then Fallen Earth is worth the try. I can't comment more on the that since I only played a few hours but it's not a bad game at all!

Aion is an amazing game as well but it's nothing new so... I say Fallen Earth!

It's not really fair to compare a big studio game, with big marketing dollars, to an indie developer's game. Not to mention the fantasy/mmorpg mechanic vs. post-apocalyptic/rpgfps mechanic. These two games are VERY different, I don't see any competition between them. They will appeal to totally different players. And their developers have wildly different expectations of success as well.

Aion is highly polished, but does very little new.

FE is rough, but allows for greater freedom and originality.

    Pick your poison.

FE I always found to be a little clunky. The combat is really bad, and it was something that was brought up on the beta boards quite a lot. Other than the (poor) tps styled combat, it played like any other MMO. Probably end up being an alright game. Theres already a lot of people proclaiming it to be something amazing when it isnt, and has attracted a lot of the 'lol sandbox lol' buttplugs and they put me off it more than anything else.

Aion is good fun, but very generic and asian.

Aion compared to FE is like McDonalds vs some small exotic foreign restaurant.

One is large, streamlined, polished and aiming at the masses.

The other is small, special, requires you to read the menu but may reward with interesting new experiences.

Let's play Fallen Earth (blind, 300 episodes)

Let's play Guild Wars 2 (blind, 45 episodes)

I am not asking you to compare the games.

I am asking which game had a better, smoother, launch day. This says alot about the planning of the company launching the game.

    Umm, yes you are...

Even if you are asking to 'compare launches', it still equates to the same and the answers given will still stand.

    why not a single answer?

aion's launch has been very smooth, but that was to be expected, since it's not really a new game.  the only problem was the queues.  i've seen wait times as long as five hours to get to my preferred character.  a huge problem really, but probably part of why it was so smooth.  i just dont get how they underestimated its popularity so badly, and why they continue to allow people to go afk for hours to avoid the queues, making the problem so much worse.

so how was fallen earth's?  smooth as well, i expect.  i'd be surprised if its crowded enough not to be, but if it is, that may be a good thing, once they sort it out.  i just hope its populated well, by indy standards.

    Impossible to compare.

Ask in 6 months. Will FE be a true EVE? Will Aion be another AOC? Thats what everyone is really asking. Time will tell.

Personally I love FE and truely want it to succeed, because all of us want depth, not graphics candy. We also want eye candy to grow a lil soul (Aion) and be what we hope you can be.
