This game should be because its not worth the subscription. The character animations are amateurish. Improvements to the game are shot down by anal retentive lore nerds who rabidly denounce any variation from the game by devs although it might improve gameplay.
Pvp is laughable with monster play. You might start at 60th level but your monster character is next to useless. All they do is stand around zerging each other all day.

I just started playing again since the beta.
Its ok, but im not sure its worth the monthly fee.
This really is a premium game. Doesn't have a huge population but its a safe haven for most tolken fans and to be honest its a great pve game.
I think it's well worth the fee, as do many, many others.

I don't think the vast majority of MMOs are worth the monthly fee. I suppose it all depends on what one likes.
As for LOTRO, I found it worthy of the Lifetime Membership.

Way to shoot for the moon as far as quality or any sense of depth.
So essentially you are interested in the lord of the rings but not really interested in the lord of the rings. In the same manner you probably would be interested in a ww I game except you wouuld like Jets and lasers and invisibility packs?
As far as the animations and the like, I do know they are changing combat to be faster though I'm not sure as to the extent of the changes. This will be happening in the next expansion.
This game is as good as any other. It has its flaws but it also has its strengths.

Still not sure why some people keep coming to LOTRO expecting PvP or even in some cases RvR. LOTRO has none of the latter and only a few of the former.
Improvements? Oh You are probably one of the few guys whining for flying mounts or drooling over 10 feet blade /purple hair.
Wrong game: I would suggest WoW and Aion, both which probably cater more to your needs.
I msyelf feel LOTRO deserves a monthly fee for the superbe immersion in Tolkien's world.
Translation: I like the game, but wish I could afford it.

woah you must be psyhic... not. How you came to that conclusion is baffling there sherlock.. lol. I actually paid for 3 months and played for about two weeks before cancelling and uninstalling the game. I beta tested it up to almost release. I would've thought they had improved certain aspects of the game from beta after over a year when I finally decided to try but know the same issues exist. Issues which other posters have already touched on.
I give it a few months before LOTRO servers are condensed and it goes F2P like DDO.
Hopefully Turbine doesn't make anymore MMO's. Perhaps Blizzard will buy them out and retain the 1-2 worthwhile dev's they have.
I might play if it were free... is there a free trial for this one?

Naw, Blizz doesnt want it as it doesnt suck. Blizz only has games that suck.
The issue is that once you run through all the content, with no compelling PvP, there isn't much to do endgame. I agree that it's an excellent PvE game, graphics are great and turbine really does a good job of adding features that the players want..... It's just not possible to turn out PvE content as fast as it can be consumed. I think this game has as much subscription values as a lot of MMOs, but that isn't really saying much. I think subscription MMOs should be on more a sliding scale. They don't all have the same subscription value, but the industry slavishly sticks to the $15.00 a month standard fee. There is a lot of room between 14.99 and free to play, it's a shame that more developers don't try to find a price-point somewhere in the middle.

Not free Madeux, but hey it can be bought for 10 bucks.
That's close to free

Yes, but best I recall- Turbine offers a $9.99/month rate for subs quite often. Actually, I think they're offering it now.....
Plus there was the lifetime sub that was well worth it in the long run.
Everyone is entitled to have an opinion so I certainly don't want to take away your right to yours but I certainly have to say everything you say is just that an opinion and more than likely one of a minority as well.
but yeah, to call this game Fantastic is like calling Twilight the Godfather of vampire movies....
Lotro is definately a beautiful game with a very well done graphical engine.
It is also definately not for everyone.
If you like it, pay for it and play it. If you don't like it, don't play it and especially don't ask for it to be free.
go into the settings and change animation smoothness to the max.
THat should solve your problem

It seems that every 2 months they offer LoTRO for $10 a month. You can buy multiple months at once. Also occasionally they offer lifetime for $199
I would play if it were F2P, but it is a very polished game and I can see why people continue to pay the monthly fee.

I say we strike all users from the site for not being MMOs.
If LotRO went f2p (with RMT) 75% of the population would leave, with the resultant empty servers for the cheap bastards to play on.

I honestly wouldnt even return if LOTRO it turned free to play LOL. Turbine lost all my respect after Moria came out, so much so that I'll likely avoid DDO as well.
I tell this to all the people I talk with considering trying LOTRO. If you enjoy pvp stay away, its horrible. If your into Tolkiens lore and enjoying questing for 60 levels go for it! Its a decent game...to a point.
