No time to pay to play looking for free or cheap.

Hey all
The situation I am in is that I cannot justify paying out money to buy and then monthly to play because of work and family obligations. So, I am looking for a good free or cheap ($4 to $7 a month free to down load ) game that is good. I tried the AO free for a year game and I tried to like AO but just cant seem to get into it. I am turning to this comunnity so I dont have to play every free game out there for a week only to find that it is not what I am looking for. So any ideas and advised would be greatly appreciated.

    Guild Wars will be released soon and with that won't need to pay any monthly payments.

    How soon anyway? I have yet to see an official releasedate :(

    Will GW have crafting skills and other things to do but killing monsters? I would like to find a game I can get into but only play for say 8 hours over a week. I am looking for one that has good character developement. I thought about Knoights online but it seems that there is very little character developement there just killing monsters and players.

    Hey Imperatorian, the release date is April 18th. Dunno if it'll be out by then, but that's the rls date.

    When will Guild Wars be released?  UPDATED!


    Guild Wars is currently in alpha testing on a daily basis, and holds beta testing during Beta Weekend Events, the next of which begins on January 7th. We will take as much time as necessary to balance and polish the game based on feedback received during beta testing. We anticipate that we will release Guild Wars in early 2005.

     

    This directly from their site. Where you got the 18th april date?

    I got the rls date from this site, goto Guild Wars from the game list and it says it right next to it. I also read this somewhere in a PCG article.
