Hmm, where to begin... Well, I need help picking a new MMORPG or else it feels as if my life has no meaning. Anyways, I've played the majority of the popular MMORPG's and have found nothing of true lasting value. I'm not big on grinding levels unless it's not overwhelming and boring like so many games. I enjoy exploration, and PvP is somewhat of a must for me. Star Wars Galaxies lasted me the longest. I loved how it was player built and myself and a friend built our own business which went fairly well. Though once the force sensitive crap hit it got old fast. Not to mention camping Elders and the Geo Labs every night got a bit boring. Asheron's Call 2 is overall my favorite. It's fun, graphically beautiful, but once you hit your 30's and 40's everything is just a road to nowhere. I was one of the first 50 players in the Planetside beta, and I played that for quite awhile. After the beta though I had no interest. A few months later I picked it up again, and surely enough the game had been nerfed to hell due to constant bitching.
I enjoyed Lineage 2 when I tried the Taiwan beta, but because of the boredom that set in after I had left the newb areas, as well as the constant raping of the newb areas by high level players, I dropped that fast. Final Fantasy XI was another one I enjoyed for awhile. It was user friendly for the most part and had a nice style to it. Once I was able to get the advanced professions though I had to urge to go any further. I attempted to play with some friends during the PS2 release a few months later and it was more of the same. Then there was Everquest which I found to be tiring crap. Then came Everquest 2 which was the exact same but with better graphics, lag, and loading times up the ass. Let's see... Then there was World War II Online which I played for an entire day and then promptly quit due to not being able to move any of the damn vehicles no matter how hard I tried. Then there was the Shadowbane beta which again I played for about a day. The reason behind that was the awful lag and the great clipping which helped me fall through a building and get stuck with no one answering my support calls. There was Horizons which had a great concept, but was buggy and laggy (and still was even months after the beta).
Finally I happened to pick up World of Warcraft which for three weeks I adored. But then once I hit level 40 I lost all interest. I made it to 44 and quit a few days ago. There were also numerous other small MMORPG's that I played and were either bugged or simply too crappy to stick with. Mind you none of this was in order, it was simply just off the top of my head. I had the urge to go back to Star Wars Galaxies to see some of my friends, continue with my force sensitive grinding, and recreate my business, but then I come to find last night my Station name is taken and all attempts at recovering it failed. Looking back I've enjoyed very little of my MMORPG experiences, but I guess the good outweighs the bad... So what do you guys think? Any MMORPG's I may enjoy? Any I should try again? I have the urge to try Planetside again, but I'm not sure I want to shell out the money for the expansions and everything else so I can just get fed up with the constant nerfs and overpowered crap machines...

I love planet side alot, but I only play it for a month at a time occasionaly. Plus you dont even need the epansions for it, personally I bought the first expansion thinking it was gonna give me tons of new "uber stuff", not really, just gave me stuff that I'll barely be able to use. I'd say switch between PS and WoW, WoW is definately gonna get better, I'd say it's gonna have some really nice pvp, castle sieges and stuff like that within a year.

Uhm, warbaweg ..did you even read his post? He's played WoW up to lvl 44, he just quit. Try again.
Xigence,
Well... hmm.
You already shot down my favorite game of all time, EQ. (And for the record its NOTHING like EQII other than in names). I'd tell you to try it again but in the last 12 months the economy has gone to crap and we just lost a large portion of our player base to EQII and WoW ...both of which I see you've already tried also.
You didn't mention CoH (City of Heros). Its just plain fun and different than anything else out there. I was skeptical at first and I thought from what I'd seen in ads and on forums that it was a retarded concept, but I was wrong and they have a huge player base. If nothing else, I think you'd get a kick out of it for a few months ..possibly just to "hold you over" until something better comes out like Guild Wars (hopefully), which might suit you better.

I REALLY hope you aren't 35 with grammar/spelling like that.
Which FF Character Are You?
Well he's from Florida in the USA so its a reasonable assumption to make that even if his first language isn't English, he will have a reasonable grasp of it.
Anyway to the author of the thread, give EvE online a try; trully massive exploration possibilities and an excellent PVP experience. I think its still on 14 day trial as well.

Well with Eve its the player lead element that breeds true longevity. Being part of player "Corporation", and the interaction with other corporations in terms of co-operation and conflict (including outright warfare) are the source of never ending excitement. The games has lots of PVE entertainment also but its a PVP game first and foremost. Conflict with a Player Pirate can take place anywhere and at anytime. It is not a game to be played AFK.
IF you like gear and gadgets, Eve has a VAST amount of ship add ons (modules) and at least 6 grades of fighting ships, from Frigates through to Battleships with numerous examples of each type; multiple industrial ships also exist. All ships are customisable with the addition of "Modules" which are essentially the gadgets you attach to your ship to make it a ship and not just a box with an engine. Graphics are superb (and in some cases frankly a little over the top superb) in terms of the way Space is rendered.
Combat is handled through targeting an enemy and then setting your weapons to fire upon them, which the happens automatically. There is a lot more to the tactics here than it sounds though, as electronic warfare and weapon system loadout really play a vast part in making sure you can shoot the enemy and he can't shoot you. Its far too complex to go into in any detail here.
The down side for me at least. You cannot interact with planets. No fly bys or planetary landings. This may be in the planning though.
Also the game is played in the third person. A small camera bot is said to fly around your ship giving you the view you see although this is patently absurd. I prefer to think that your ships sensors are building an image of the ships surrounds beamed directly into you brain via the "Pod". It takes a little getting used to.
If you like PVP Player interaction and exploration I would recommend Eve.

Desperate? Need?
You need food, water, clothing, a place to live, air, money...
MMORPG? Surely you're THAT desperate.

eve fan - guilty as charged...
but i would suggest that if you like pvp (economics-politics-combat) with enough pve to fill in the blanks, then you should at least try the trial period. 14 days aint enough to get a feal for the game, only the gui, but its better than nothing.
id suggest getting into a good corp .. but i think it would take more than 2 weeks to pick a good one. if you want to see pvp - check out map settings and show deaths in the last hour. right click the brighest light and head there .. should work like a charm. If you are into trade go to map / search type in YULAI and right click and set destination - yulai system is the center of the comercial universe for some reason. HELP channel should answer any questions you have. (ignore the spam) do agent missions to start off with buy a clone / always have a skill training .. and check you cargo hold before you undock. when in doubt warp away. dont use ew on npc pirates. dont shoot anything in high security space. (MAP / Displayes Settings / stars / view by security status.) dont go to low security space or any asteroid belts or complexes unless you can afford to lose you ship (insurance and clones your friend). yada yada.
(another EVE addict here)
Save yourself before its too late man! I've been addicted to EVE for over 2yrs now there is no escape!
Seriously if its gear/manufacturing/markets/trading/shear size of everything, and so on that rocks your boat go for EVE as there is an almost overwhelming amount of stuff its awesome, have a look here at the item database -> Link
One word of advice dont get stuck into the idea that all you can do is mine like so many do, having said that even mining now has loads of new content and possibilites.
There are skills available in char creation for new members that are not even in game for the rest of us yet that can lend a new player an edge if they do a little research
Best of luck finding "that" new game, I know its hard to get the right one.....

Either wait until 2006 for maybe another playabale decent title, or subscribe to Planetside or Eve Online.
Those are the only two games I personally would waste 12$ a month on.

Can someone please make me a sig. I would like it to have something to do with an eagle(the bird) Somewhere near the eagle can you put the words "Global Defense Initiative". Could you also have the line "If you can't buff up, don't step up!". Thanks!
Private Message me about it!
There are too many mmorpg's out there and few that are worth playing longterm. I played Lineage II for a while but the grind is back breaking. After level 40 it's just way too much. Then there's EQII played that for a bit got bored as well. The fun aspect of games is what keeps me in it, if it's long boring and pointless I quit.
I would try COH but since it's from Ncsoft (Which has awful customer service which I've seen from L2) I don't know if it's worth it. Maybe Guild wars (Unfortunately from Ncsoft as well) will be better.
I think you should try Anarchy Online. It is free for one year and it a fun game.Theres tons of content and you can craft just about everything.
PS if you do play, and play on server one msg Blinxer or Blurofshadow
