The devs have spoken about this at length ... they want people to experience the game in full

I actually don't mind limited flying and think it's well implemented.  Only problem I have is some people can seem to fly where it says I'm not allowed and I can't figure out why.  The main city is an example.  Anyone know why?

You cannot fly in the main city because there is no fragment of the tower there. The fragments fuel your flight.

They arent really "flying" in town they are "gliding" in town. Find a ramp, hit space bar twice and watch yourself "glide"  to the bottom :)

The worse thing about unlimited and unrestricted flying is that it detaches you from the world in the ground. No matter how the world is designed (good or bad), it becomes irrelevant when you can just dive bomb to the quest givers or to the mobs need killing. There is also the mater of course of not bumping into anybody in the ground.

Exactly. I recently got a druid to Outland in WoW. Now that you can fly at any level in Outland, I have been flying anytime I'm not fighting. Lemme tell you, I barely feel like I'm playing the game.

I've been grabbing quest objects while in the air with mobs right next to me, and on this one quest where I need to burn a building, I simply land on top and burn it, instead of fighting my way in and killing everyone inside first.

After that, I need to kill a few boars, so back up in the air, drop down, kill one, back up scouting for another.

It all indeed feels very detaching. While before it was a pain only having a land mount, at least I felt like I was playing a game.

I find the "flying is detaching" argument odd because in a superhero MMO you are flying, jumping, or otherwise speeding from here to there and it is not at all a break from immersion. I wonder why that is?

Can I just say that is is not possible to pick up a quest item while flying as this person seems to imply.

This is why I don't post much. I guess you've never played a druid.

Why couldn't they design the world 3 dimensionally to take the ability to fly into account? You assume that the world must be designed 2 dimensionally as though no one could fly, and then they added the flying.

Maybe you should have clarified that then.   Because you cannot pick up things while flying on the back of a mount.   There is a difference.

He did say he had a druid read his first sentence.

Sorry if I sounded rude. I will add that druid does have the advantage of quest item snatching, which doesn't apply to the rest of the classes.

This is true. Flying mounts pretty much killed World PvP in WoW from what I heard IDK first hand I never made it past lvl 50.

Again, that's only because the world was not designed with the ability to fly in mind. If a dev were to put in the extra design effort, you could have a whole game meant to accommodate 3 dimensional movement.
