Which Monitor?

ShariShari Member UncommonPosts: 746

Hi there all, I'm looking for a 24 inch monitor with HD support to use for my pc and for my ps3 - can anyone suggest a good one with as little backlight bleed as possible and decent image quality?

That's a TN panel. Avoid such garbage.

Lg W2600HP-BF is a good choice. IPS panel which is superior compared to TN, hardly any input lag, good viewing angles, you name it.

To be honest I was looking for something a little more cheaper than that, it's a little bit above my price range I'm afraid

Yes, it's a bit pricey but considering all aspects it's a brilliant product, worth every penny. If it's possible for you to get one, I sincerely suggest so.

If we look for some cheaper monitors, there are products like Lenovo L220X,  HP LP2475w, Dell Ultrasharp U2410 for example. With all these you need to accept the lower screen size, resolution and lower general quality.

I'll tell you one aspect, I personally had been using Samsung 959NF crt monitor which is considered to be relatively good monitor, before moving to tft time. I browsed web for info, read lots of reviews and ended up buying Dell WFP 2407. It was kinda pricey back then, normal price was like 1200 € but I got many for little over 800 €.

Thinking afterwards, this was the best single investment I've made with computers. I'm still using the same monitor after over 3 years, and there is no need to upgrade anywhere in the near future.

The point is to get a good one, you won't be needing an upgrade anytime soon. What my original suggestion includes is: full hd resolution, good panel with much better colors than normal monitors, the screen is big enough even for demanding user and the panel has low input lag so it's very well fitted for fast paced gaming.

One additional note, panel response time is different than input lag.

If you want to do some reading Anandtech has a good display section: http://anandtech.com/displays/

The mainstream sites aren't very picky, it's common they forget to compare monitors to more expensive models.

I recommend the Samsung/NVidia stereoscopic kit. I got one a few months back and the thing is sick! it was about $600.

Dell has some cheap 23-24 inch panels on sale quite frequently. I saw some for less than $200 bucks a few days ago. It depends if you are looking for a cheap TN panel or a higher quality MVA or IPS panel though.
