I have not played it yet. But have waited for years for FE.
My other favourite MMOs have been (is) Pre-CU SWG and Darkfall.
Is it something in between? Or im a completely wrong?

The last game I have played for 8 months was Darkfall. I have been playing FE since open beta including pre-release, and I can tell you that if you loved SWG Pre-CU this is your game. DEEP character customization in a skill based system, great non auto-target combat system, DEEP and interesting crafting system that let you craft 95% items of the game, good graphics and ambientation is very well done. PvP is also great, though it is not Darkfall. You start having little PvP and end up having plenty (80% of sector 3, which is the last "continent" of the game available for the moment, they plan to have 9 each with more and more PvP).
I will really recommend you to try it, I am sure you won't regret it if you loved SWG Pre-CU. But don't think you will have that insane feeling of PvP like in Darkfall, though this game has a good one. It is totally worth it.
This is nothing like Pre-CU Star Wars Galaxies.
You say you've been waiting years for this game? Maybe if it had been released many years ago it may have been at least somewhat acceptable.
Be paid for Beta Testing, don't pay to Beta Test.
Since I can only play the game if Steam for once doesn't tell me the game was unavailable for whatever reason and when I'm playing the game crashes every 10 minutes or so, I can't really tell.
Money well spent then .
Definitely.
I should reactivate my Neocron account.
Personally, I love it.
It does demand a good system, to run smoothly, and other than restarts/patches, I have not had problems with crashes, etc.
Ive heard alot of talk in game about comparing FE to one game or another.. and everyone who likes the game, finds similarities to other games they like...
But for me... Its great being a classless character, not forced to fit into some pre-cut mold of tank, heal, dps. My favorite thing about the game has to be the PVE storyline, along with the faction systems. A lot of detail went into NPC dialog, even background chatter.
Its a rough world out there, and the game does NOT hold your hand through it.

I'm guessing you're using either Vista or Windows 7? I had the same problem as you, but fixed it simply by running steam as administrator. If you haven't already tried that, it should fix your problem Can't help you with the crashing problem though, seeing as I haven't crashed a single time yet. Don't know if that's also due to running as administrator, but I doubt it.
And to the OP: I've only been playing the game for about 4-5 hours total, so I have yet to figure out all the aspects of the game, but so far I've been having fun, and I have a very distinct feeling that it's only going to get better and better for me. Many have been complaining about lag and crashing. As I said previously, I really haven't experienced a single crash and the lag is certainly bearable, even though I live in Denmark. But if things like lag and some bugs will scare you off completely, I think you should perhaps wait for a bit before joining, as it is of course not completely polished yet. I'd say it's better than most MMO launches though, and very playable, at least for me.
The game is ok. I am enjoying myself, but it could be way better. Tons of lag during prime time, sometimes borderline unplayable. The graphics are ok if you ask me, and I hate games without AA. When you first log in, it does not look very good, but as you play, you just kind of forget about it, and it becomes acceptable.
I think the combat is a bit clunky, and with the lag, it makes it a bitch to hit things, especially if you are a ranged weapon user. Trying to dual wield pistols, and shoot things at anything above point blank is 90% of the time a waste of ammo.
Other than that though, it is pretty good. If they fixed the lag, and the memory crashes, it would be so much better though.
So, basically, if you don't mind toughing it out a bit, play now. If not, then just wait a few months for the lag and memory problems to disapate.
Exactly, I'm using Windows 7 (x64).
And running Steam in compatibility mode did do the trick.
Still got plenty of crashes in the towns (Midway).
I can only hope that it will get better eventually.
Open steam up as an administrator, it works for me. I have the same problem and i'm running vista.
