For some reason when I start the game, my McAffey antiviral program registers it as a trojan computer virus. I googled it and folks with other antiviral software programs are also getting this alert.
So what gives? I'm wondering if this is something I should be worried about or is it safe to ignore?

I'd be more worried about McAffey... obviously it cannot identify a real virus, so what kind of protection could it possibly be giving you?
McCaffee is bad.
Play with the big kids and get Norton.
Hedonismbot: Your latest performance was as delectable as dipping my bottom over and over into a bath of the silkiest oils and creams.
the only thing worse than Mcafee .... is Norton..... get kapersky if you're gonna use a retail box antivirus..... if not then get trend micro or pc tools .... something that is not a primary target for hackattack yo ... homeskillet .... WORD!!
BoB
Played the beta.
I use ESET NOD32. and it never told me anything about the game.
Not sure if a the release is that much different now.
Human evolution and advancement has never been measured in terms of our ability to grapple one-on-one with bears.
I use Comodo its free and its a firewall and virus scanner. Its never let me down before and it works nicely. www.comodo.com/
Yea, I dropped Macafee just for the reasons the OP quoted. I now have Norton and haven't had any problems with Aion and playing behind my firewall.
My stomach is still hurting, I was laughing so hard at this.
Yup get ESET NOD32.. quite good and you can 30 day trial it free of any commitement.
Norton, Macafee.. thats all old crap.. they were good when there was nothing else on the market.. but they both got greedy along the way.. and spent more time trying to charge for their software than improving it.
lol Norton is for the big kids?? or kids with too much money and not alot of sense?
Another vote for ESET NOD32. It has a very small footprint and is game-friendly.
avira antivir! i dont actually use an antivirus on my machine, but thats cuz im not stupid. 2 years virus free
LMAO... seriously.
BitDefender
Kapersky
AVGFree
AVAST
NOD32
Panda
I mean there are tons of AV out there, just stay away from Norton and Mcaffe
Very bad. Nothing about it is helpful. Get rid of it ASAP.

Every advance in human life, every scrap of knowledge and wisdom and decency we have has been torn by one side from the teeth of the other. Get Avast
March on! - Lets Invade Pekopon
I have McAfee and get no trojan warnings.
AVG isn't functioning as well as it used to, this last few months, and I get several virus-infested PCs to sort out each day that have a fully up-to-date v8.5 supposedly working. The record for infected files so far is 1070 on one machine, and AVG hadn't noticed a single one. I would suggest Avast or Avira as free alternatives.
The false positive for Aion will be the Launcher program or Game Guard, in all likelihood.
Get kaspersky if you can spare 80$.
there is a norton gamer edition ,i think its probably the fastest out there for gamer
and norton detect everything there is to detect lol
the only thing that might make your anti virus is from some file in aion.tab if i recall or a name like that
and its because gameguard is there
also always check to make sure that file is closed when you close the game
happen fairly regularly the aion.tab is still active
annoying hell yes
With you there, friend.
But if you're ever curious about a file that your virus software flags, try uploading it to www.virustotal.com. That puts any file through the ringer of about 30 antivirus products. If it flags only on one or two, its pretty safe to say that its a false positive detection.
However, if more than 50 percent of the scanners see a problem, you may want to examine it more closely.
Thanks for the helpful replies. I used to use Norton years ago, but my computer started slowing down so just on a whim I got McAffey and it found several things that Norton did not. That's why I switched.
My subscription to McAffey will be expiring soon and I will look into some of the AV programs mentioned here. Thanks for the suggestions.
I was able to solve my problem by turning off my AV while updating Aion.
I also have the same problem with Avira.
The trojan in question is none else than the remains of the shitteiest program ever......Gameguard.
Gameguard is one of the most intrusive software in the world, it act like a Virus.
After NCSoft disabled it, apparently the program still run in the background, but because is not associated with Gameguard.exe, it is now recognised as a Trojan.
So don't worry about it, although NCSoft has to do something about since it is really annoying, I personally have 7 warnings each time I launch Aion...........not good enough.
I think I was hacked. I'm posting this from my wife's computer.
I was pretty much reassured by what I read here and dismissed the trojan warning. But when I got off work tonight, I found my computer appears to have had a fresh install of windows. All my drivers are gone for all the hardware. Also I haven't been able to find my McAffey AV program.
I suppose it could be a coincidence. Or I could have had some kind of hardware failure, I don't know. It's really upsetting. It's late and it was a rough day at work, so I'll take a closer look at it tomorrow.
If anyone else has any problems I would like to know. If it's just me then maybe it's something on my end or some random attack, but it just seems suspicious that my computer was registering Aion as a virus and then poof....I come home and Windows has been reinstalled.
That is the problem with viruses. A good virus would make sure you would never know it's there. Anyhow played the Beta of Aion and McAfee never complained about it.
