EverQuest II: "Adventure Pack" Details

MeddleMeddle Administrator UncommonPosts: 758

Although not yet officially announced, Gamespot is reporting the details on the first content update pack for Everquest 2.  Here's a snippet of Gamespot's article:

The first part of the adventure pack will come as a free download. All of the game's subscribers will be able to sink their swords into a new zone, fight new enemies, and so on. There will also be some new quests in this area for all players. Some of these quests will flesh out the lore behind the game's dark elf race and at least partially explain what has transpired in the 500 years that lie between the original EverQuest and EverQuest II. If players want to continue down this story path, they will have to pay what's been described as a "small fee" to download the rest of the adventure pack's content before continuing on. Players that choose not to participate will still be allowed to adventure in this new zone to experience at least some of the new content. If the idea's a hit, SOE will likely follow with more adventure packs in the same vein.

SOE loves to kill their population rating.. paying for the rest of the expansion!?? outrageous. one day SOE will go out of buisness and i will be throwing a nationwide party.

Yesterday SOE rolled out an untested patch on EQII that messed up a whole bunch of quests, and today they tried to hotpatch this code (but some of us are irrecoverable).

It makes me wonder, will they eventually move to a plan where they give you free expansions but make you pay to remove them?  image

    SOE is corporate greed personafied.

They are far from fixing the issues they have, yet the already want to charge for additional content.

Glad I gave it up when I did.

Good Luck to those of you still there.

    Thank you.

I think it is a good idea to charge for expansions. The devs keep working so they are happy, the players are happy because of the new content, and the price is only like $5 twice a year?, unless your a station subscriber, then you get the adventure packs for free.

Sounds like a good deal to me :)

Well, I think I'll be letting my account die out at the end of the month. The big server debacle took away any faith in their technical abilities to run a game anymore, the 'feel' of this game is at best souless, and now I'm going to be nickeled and dimed to death.

Why in the world would give them the notion that spending more money then a monthly fee would be a big hit? the only reason that they got away with that in the first place is becusae they were one of the best and had very little competion... Well I for one, will not pay more then the monthy fee to play any online game, there are too many out there that charge nothing for content updates. The first one off the top of my head is WOW.  image

My first MMO was EQ and EQ2 is the 9th I've either played or beta'ed. With WoW out now and games like DnD online, middle earth online, and 'dark and light' coming out, no MMO, not even one with a pedegree like EQ2 can afford to piss off their base like this.

this is insane. soe cant even get a normal patch done without screwing up the entire game and they expect us to pay for an "adventure pack" that will more than likely crash the entire game for a week? i have tried eq2 and i do like it but i think soe may have pushed me over the edge. I think i hear wow calling.

    Relax everyone.

SOE has every right to squeeze the last penny out of you. Whether you choose to let them is up to you.

Agreed. I'm still playing EQ2, whenever I'm not playing WoW, which isn't that often. I don't plan on paying for anything extra. Definitely not this soon after release. I thought the first large content patch is suppose to be FREE. Knowing SOE, they will be releasing expansions at least twice a year and probably these minor content patches (with fees) every quarter. I doubt, I'll be playing EQ2 longer then a year, but we'll see. I'll most likely switch back to CoH in the next couple of months.

LOL!! Yeah and everyone has the right to cancel there subscription after the first month. I don't mind paying for the normal expansions, but adding fees to Adventure Pak is ridiculous. The problem I see here is people will get into groups and half the group won't be able to continue the adventure because they didn't purchase the complete Adventure pak. Now imagine this happening a LOT once 10-12 Adventure Paks have been released. It's pretty dumb. They should just include the whole Adventure Pak stuff with the expansion game. We really only need one huge content update twice a year anyway. All this extra stuff is just SOE's way to milk more money from their subscribers. I won't be buying any of those Adventure Paks. It's a lame idea. I definitely don't think they should released 1/2 of it to people. That's even a worse idea.
