Aion Naming Policy....Or lack of

Shin-RaShin-Ra Member Posts: 82

Okay firstly let me say that I'm enjoying Aion, infact I love it. The Graphics, Story and Gameplay is brilliant and NCSoft Have done a very good job.

The only thing that I find particularly ennoying (apart from servers queues) is the Naming Policy. I'm sick of meeting new people that have silly or offensive names, in addition I cannot put characters in a name such as é, but yet i can put numbers in.

I wonder if this will be updated? I wonder if they will release official RP Servers with the standard attached rules.

What do you guys think

Dunno, does the game still have freakishly misshapen people?

I'm just LOL'ing at them adding another server =)

Your own opinion obviously but why? Do you like the roleplaying aspect? because I love to see a funny name as im running around - brings back down to earth - helps me  remember its just a game.

Some sort of naming filter was recommended several times in beta. If they haven't added one by now I doubt it will ever happen. The first toon I saw when I logged in was a female named dumtwat.

I saw a guy named fapfapfap but he was probably banned or requested to change name or just deleted the character before ncsoft said anything to him.

Kinda nice seeing a game that has some freedom in naming, instead of a bunch of pansy filters that tend to block stupid stuff.

My god has horns.... nah, I don't think he is real either.

So you like stupid stuff? Something truly offensive, like dumtwat, NEEDS to be able to be reported and banned. Sheerly stoopid names, while occasionally annoying, are just part of an open world MMO.

BTW, I have seen more idiotic legion names in Aion then any other game, ever. I would never join a guild called Sassy Pink Dragons, for example. But they surely have the right to be as silly as they like.

Its never anything I would quit a game over, but generally speaking when a game has managed to make me feel immersed, which usually means I'm enjoying the game, it gets ruined when I come across Urmomblows. Even when they make me chuckle. Guess its the difference between people who get into their chars and people who don't. Still in an mmoRPG it'd be nice if the devs had a policy.

I have already decided thats what my ganking method is going to follow, anyone with retarded names or a retarded looking character design I'm not holding back and just ganking em whenever I get the chance.

I'm onboard. Probably won't be able to help myself.

For it me it is anoying and not from an RP stand point. The problem is that humor doesn't translate well. What one person thinks is halrious another group will find completely moronic. When one person thinks that others should lighten up, others think that racist people are dicks.

If you make a funny name, that's fine but people really should leave out anything that is extremely offensive to the general population. A lot of these people do it for the same reason why trolls bait people on forum threads.

I agree. Sassy Pink Dragons... who cares. I have been seeing Legions with names of:

Buck Futters, Ace Holes, Arse Rappers, etc.

There is a big difference between something witty and just plain crude like Dumtwat. Back in "beta" the last time I logged in I saw someone named Bigblack Cock or something along those lines. It was then I realized this community is worse than anything I ever see from the WoW folks. This is where the bottom feeders are!

People have some weird names, I'm pikachu, lol.

Speaking of wierd/offensive/questionable names, in Guild Wars there was (maybe they still exist) a guild called Pen Island.  They were around for a good long while, even though no one I knew who figured out what the name actually was, had any problems with it.

Those type of names would appear in any game if they did not have the sissy filters.   All games have a section of retards, if you do not believe it, then you are naive beyond belief.

LOL I love the lack of naming policy. Some guy ran by me named Blowjob. I LOL'd.

However I am not a smug RPG player who would be insulted by the vulgarity of the world.

"Pffaw. To think that I would have to share my gameworld with these lowlifes, naming their Champions in such a rude manner"

It has nothing to do with being a game, RP or RPG player. If someone was walking down the street with a T-shirt that reads "Blowjob", whether he wants to or not, that person will need to accept the consequence for wearing that shirt. A few people would find that humorous. The majority of people would think the guy is an idiot.

Like it was said before, humor is subjective. Most people don't find lowbrow comedy funny. A lot do, but most don't.

NCSoft does employ a naming policy because I remember them doing this in Lineage. On my server there was a guy named "Eldildorado" and he was the first victim. He leveled to 63 before they changed his name to NameChange01 and gave him the option of choosing his top three names and sending them in. Eventually his name was changed.

Point is, he leveled to 63 before any of this happened and this was in end of Chronicle 1 / beginning of Chronicle 2. NCSoft will change these names at a later date, they just have a lot on their plate at the moment with higher priorities.

This is the truth, eventually they will make it their priority and all these people will have to change names. I used the name pendejo in WOW for a very long time, and got to max level before they forced me to change it to something else. pendejo is a spanish curse word so it wasn't as obvious as using english curse words.

Thanks for that info.  I had been strongly thinking of buying this but no naming policy definitely is a nix.  Just like no /ignore command was a killer for Lineage2.
