Chairs?

GrubbsGradyGrubbsGrady Member UncommonPosts: 371

Hey guys, this may be a bit of a strange post but I would like to get some info from you all!

I was just wondering what type of chair everyone else uses for their computer? Mine is a bit worn out and I was wondering if anyone knew of good solutions for a comfortable/affordable chair suitable for long period game sessions?

Also wanted to see how many people use cushions/mats/pads on their chairs to make them more comfortable or anything? My current chair is lacking lumbar support and after playing for a medium period of time my lower back hurts.

I just use a high back executives chair with arm wrests. The arms are a must for me, but anyhow lets hear about some of you!

I bought mine from Staples some months back for $125, alot of office stores always sell office furniture on sale.  That particular model was originally over $200 and still is online.  The chair divides the cushions, so it takes a bit more time for the foam inside to degrade.  Its not actually leather, its vinyl that is a leather color.  You can tell because when it wears out it turns gray, and the pattern on it is uniform.

Another design I like are the rubber mesh chairs.  Unlike foam, the air-pockets inside don't give way flattening the cushion.  However, as it degrades the rubber falls apart, and may no longer hold weight which means you fall through.  Kind of a bad way to learn your chair needs replacement.  Also they are a bit expensive.

I used to work at an upholstery distributor.  IMO the best chair you can get will use a firm foam.  This will make the chair last a while before needing any maintenence.  If you want it a little softer, then you put a soft foam ontop of the firm foam or a cotton mat.

Office supply stores are a good place to look. If it's good enough for 8 hours at a desk job, it should be good enough for lengthy gaming sessions. Check Staples, OfficeMax, Office Depot, etc. I personally prefer going to one of these stores and actually sitting in the chairs before choosing one than buying online. Everyone's tuckus is different, after all. :D

Not sure hes asking for buying help.

But for me, the chair makes the difference between a 1 hour sit, and a 7 hour sit (:P). At first i used an old office chair, pretty plain, had arms but the cushions weren't all there. Then I got a job at this LAN center and sat in one of their chairs for the first time, I fell in love, like if this chair was a woman, I wouldn't her nagging me all day. So I went out and bought this chair similar to it. I love my high back cushioned rest, the arms are a must and have to be cushioned. The butt area has to be the most prepared for gaming, such as sinking into it just to make you feel snug.

And the foam in the seat will be so thin and soft you'll be sitting on the hard seat pan within a month.

Josexph where did you find this chair you fell in love with?

My chair is similar to the one the guy listed who got it for 40 bucks. The bottom is worn out so much I can't even sit in it and get any type of back support. Also on the arms they are just worn out so much, after playing for about 30 minutes it feels like i have been outside resting my arms on asphalt...

Go to an office supplies store that has a lot of computer chairs and try sitting in a bunch of them to find one that feels comfortable to you.

As ridiculous as it sounds, but Moses does a good job. Here is Moses - http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/20086724 :) And its not expensive. Have mine for 3-4 years now, still in really good condition and really comfy.

I am not using the regular desk and chair. I'm not if the right word would be modular. Anyway I use a living room armchair, pretty much like the one on the first picture. Broaden you horizon and don't only look for the chair special made for offices.

For the Keyboard I use a laptop stand, tiltable so I can tilt tha chair backwords, draw the keyboard near, rest my arms on the things on the side of the chair. The laptop stand is shown on picture two.

For the mouse I use something with the same concept as the third picture. The form is resembling it. It reaches above the chair, precisely above the armrests are. So I can rest my right arm and fiddle with the mouse.

For the monitur I use a selfmade stand, simply placed infront of the chair.

And ya I relax my legs, tilt myself back and almost fall asleep.

I'm so broke. I can't even pay attention.

Chair? You mean everyone doesn't just jack in with a cable in the back of their neck like I do?
