vladakovvladakov Member Posts: 710

 hey,

so i just got fallen earth, i was gunna buy fallen earth OR darkfall...  played fallen earth for quiet some hours, the lag is bareable, a bit annoying at times.  i'm lvl 3 now, and i can already tell, i don't really like the game... i know people will think you'll need to level up more to have fun, but its just not my game, just alot of bux spent across the drain...

regards, vlad

Yeah, if you're not having fun in a game early on, you're not gonna have fun later. Who wants to play a game that you have to work at to have any fun?

Good luck in your search for a Darkfall trade and I hope you like it better.

I just started playing Fallen Earth myself, and to tell the truth, i hated it as soon as i logged in.  My first impression was that it was a glitchy, buggy, laggy, pile-of-turd game.  And there didnt seem to be an informative starting point to ease me into the game.  i.e. A steeper learning curve than some mmo's.  Basically, crafting is how u get stuff for your character and they just overwhelm you with all the junk u can do.  Anyways, i think, if you take a little more time to let all the information sink in, even take a break and sleep on it, that you may start to enjoy it.  The game actually feels kinda like Darkfall.  I hated Darkfall at first until i spent more time with it, which is also a craft heavy game.

Fallen Earth and Darkfall are kinda similar in certain aspects so im not sure if you'd enjoy Darkfall better or not.  Maybe you'd rather play a swords n shields game?  I think you should also try Darkfall, just cause.  But you can read the numerous other posts about Darkfall's pitfalls.  Don't dismiss Fallen Earth until you've actually tried tried it.  A one few-hour gaming session is not going to show you the good aspects of a game like Fallen Earth nor Darkfall.  Relax, breathe, take a nap.  Then give it another honest whirl when your bored.

See, now with that you got me interested in this game (SWG vet). Can I get it through steam?

Just to give you some warning, there is a problem with the steam download, you have to break into the back door to get it to run. See the message below I got from Steam suppport:

"Thank you for contacting Steam Support.

We are aware of this issue and it is being investigated.

For now, please navigate to your Fallen Earth game folder, found here by default:

    C:Program FilesSteamsteamappscommonfallen earth

    Run FEUpdater.exe"

They are working on why it doesn't launch from steam, but at least is a solution.

Is there a gift with steam purchase I didn't see one, I wouldn't recommend getting it there just because of that, if you buy it directly from Fallen Earth site, you get a free ATV or if you buy it from D2D...Yea, you get a horse. ATVs are kinda clunky for controlling I would recommend getting the horse, ATV is faster but costs a lot to refuell it :)

  • That's too bad Vlad. I've been playing two evenings now and I've made some progress but I am still on the steep learning curve. :)

I really like the general feel of the game, faithful to its premise in that it is all about surviving in a harsh, ruthless world but there are zillions of ways you can do that. I can tell I am going to suck at combat and it will take quite some time for me to work out strategies that suit me. I doubt I will ever be a leader in groups and raids, as I have in other mmos - I am just too slow in combat, but that is just fine as I didn't buy FE to play the same games I've already been playing.

I like to add that currently the key only works with your first character so it gets the ATV/Horse. They're working on this and will make it retroactive so it will be account bound instead of char.  But I'd go with the horse too, once you get enough money to be able to pay for gas you'll be ready for a bike or dune buggy anyway...

I got my FE from steam on thursday last week.

I was aware of this issue but never had to deal with it, it work without having to apply the above workaround, so i think Steam have fixed this issue.

You also get a key-code for an ingame t-shirt from Steam, although i tried to reclaim it and it didnt work for me :-(

i would suggest ( if you are willing to not let it go just yet ) that you take some of the others advice and take a step back! this game seems better if you pick something to do, other than levelling and focus on that. for instance last night i logged in and went around harvesting for the parts to make a crossbow...got into a few quests along the way and a few scuffles, but it felt so much better than the early bombardment :)

There seems less than a focus on levelling in this game...where Darkfall is nothing but levelling.

Not a knock on DF btw...i'm playing them both and enjoying them both!

Absolutely. I hated the way my character looked at first - like an adult in kids clothing and extremely vulnerable. Who the hell wears shorts in a world like this?? So first things first... if I am going to survive I need some decent clothing. And I liked the look of the duster jacket and a decent pair of trousers. Which means I needed chips, some mats and I needed some teaching. A few hours later I had crafted myself a duster jacket and some chaps! I also just happened to find some 3D glasses... so was mighty pleased with myself as I logged off, looking much more comfortable in the new clothes.

Now I want a decent pair of boots... not to mention a decent meal.

It is almost hard not to roleplay in this game, because you start to think in fairly realistic terms of what you need next.

I do think if you dwell on your level and expect the same experience as themepark mmos, you will be unhappy.

There is no need to load it from steam, you can just download it from their own website. If you purchase it as a digital download from their own homepage then you also get a free quad. :)

hey man, I have a DarkFall account that I'd totally trade to you for your FE account.  Darkfall is a pretty sweet pvp game but, as an old Neocron player, I would really love to switch to the Post-Appocalyptic setting.

Just let me know if you're interested.

you start the game at level 2.... so you leveled up ONCE... and quit... yeah you totally gave the game a fair chance didnt you

This game seems to work for people that have played other games it reminds them of. For me it's SWG and AO, and if you had issues with any one of those you prolly wont like this one. Lemme warn you though, if you go to Darkfall you are going to be faced with the same "ugh, what do I do?" situation posed with any sandbox game.

If you don't know what to do - craft - find mats [everywhere] and kill focusing on that rather than the levels.

If you don't like where you are at - go to another town - nothing keeping you from deleting those boring quests and going fresh to the next one where it will have twice as much (since the first ones stay available as you level and get more).

~but then ask yourself - do I even like having to think of my own goals? Or is a game like Aion, WoW, etc better for me?

If you don't like this game based on the setting, fair enough. If you don't like it for everything that makes it a [sandbox] in essence, then don't go running off to the next.

I was kind of indifferent at first, but once I started salvaging and raising my skills and getting around the steep learning curve , the game just sort of clicked and I cant get enough of it now !

I actually managed to craft my first Hangun tod ( which took me about 3 Hours by the time I had scavenged ,salvaged and wheeled and dealed for the components I needed.

Anyways sorry to hear you cant get to grips with it but one thing for sure I'm glad I did ... in fact I've even stopped playing Aion because all I want to do is play Fallen Earth , and I'm being totally honest when I say this game has been a real pleasant suprise especially amidst all the mediocre games that have realeased lately.

If you don't like the game buy something else instead. Taste differs and you can't really always like the same stuff as other people do. But when you buy a new game without trial first you are always taking a risk.

Either you can wait and try out games with a free trial before buying them, or you have to be prepared that you will waste money. There really isn't an alternative.
