Ugh, you mean I get to look forward to WAR's 10-min-shooting-a-static-door gameplay in Aion too? -.- C'mon developers, make it more interesting than that. 10 mins shooting an unmoving, unattacking object is about as tedious as a game can get.
Just out of curiosity, not flaming at all, but what could be another mechanic for fortress siege?
The Door acts as a buffer for the defense to actually mobalize, if not a door with HP, what else should be done?
Perhaps waves of NPC attackers that represent the fortress vitality?
Any other suggestions?
MMOs played: Horizons, Auto Assault, Ryzom, EVE, WAR, WoW, EQ2, LotRO, GW, DAoC, Aion, Requiem, Atlantica, DDO, Allods, Earth Eternal, Fallen Earth, Rift Willing to try anything new
They could add having to dodge catapulted cows to flavor up a fort siege. Based on how many cows you avoid hitting you could build your morale or if you get splatted by too many it could up the defense vitality of the defenders. That would be a nice change of pace besides who doesn't like seeing flying cows?
Monkeys would be pretty sweet too but that might not work with the lore.

1. For god's sake mmo gamers, enough with the analogies. They're unnecessary and your comparisons are terrible, dissimilar, and illogical.
2. To posters feeling the need to state how f2p really isn't f2p: Players understand the concept. You aren't privy to some secret the rest are missing. You're embarrassing yourself.
3. Yes, Cpt. Obvious, we're not industry experts. Now run along and let the big people use the forums for their purpose.
God this looks boring. What makes people think this is fun?
Currently Playing: Fallen Earth Played and liked: TCOS, Vanguard, Guild Wars, DDO Played and didn't like: CO, MO, STO, DF, AoC, WAR, WoW, EQ2, EVE, most f2p Waiting for: Earthrise, Guild Wars 2, Secret World
I agree, siegeing was beyond boring in AoC no matter what side you are on - war vs a structure is boring.
I would recommend "capture key locations" and have the forts in a semi linear fashion that allow chokepoints to be fought at, crossed, and claimed. If a team can force it's way to the epicenter withput being forced to rez outside, return and lose ground within a siege timer - they win. Allow the defending team to spawn within the fort's centeras long as it's not contested, but force a 3 minute respawn timer.

I agree, it does look boring, but I think people like it because it makes you feel part of something big. You are a group of people who seige a castle and take it over by means of killing a keep lord. Now personally I think the whole keep lord thing is kinda silly as it's not an incredibly dynamic fight, but it seems like there aren't a whole lot of other options out there.
I mean, players can't defend their castle 24/7, so there has to be something there that can fight off the masses attacking a held fortress when players can't do so. And at the moment, most games/devs have decided a keep lord is the way to go.
I think WAR's keep upgrade system is a step in the right direction.

How is this in the AION section?? Starcraft 2 is cheap junk,i mean worse than their flagship game WOW.If i want to play command and Conquer witch i don't ,i would play CnC lol.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

Well, I haven't seen the footage as now they are doing starcraft or something.
However, many of the forts are too high lvl for the players that are out there now. That could be why the door took so long.
Also, in a siege fight there are strategic battle points that if one takes it it can turn the tide of the batte. rezzing your downed people to a huge dot debuff for the enemy.
We attacked an asmo attempt at a siege and it was quite fun mobilizing and attacking them. Plus we had people in the bottome who were keeping the raid boss busy.
Though I like the Lineage 2 sieges, I think the Aion siges should be good fun in the future. Especially when players of appropriate level are attacking.
Like Skyrim? Need more content? Try my Skyrim mod "Godfred's Tomb."
Don't let people attack the door. Just set up a siege engine and have it take time to build. It can be destroyed and people have to protect it. Once it's built it can stil be destroyed but will operate as long as someone is controlling it. Once built it's a relatively short time to take down a door. 2-3 minutes.
Sure there will be waiting around "defending" the siege engine as it is built, but sieges aren't really pitched field battles either are they?
At least this encourages defenders to do something other than sit behind a protective wall. Since attackers don't have all that much protection you'll see a lot more action.

one thing is sure that french raid group will never down this door or boss at their level when same level opposite raid is there or if they do at same level it will take from 8 to 10 hour to do just the part they did

A siege in historical times were full of violence and things happened all around.
Besides catapults you used rams, towers, built ramps, used sappers and explosives.
Also will the people inside try to stop the attacker with stuff like murderholes and the way the build the fotress, you can't just beat down a single door and run right into the fotrress.
The just beat them down with the catapult is something I remember from the C-64 version of "defender of the crown", it is not historicaly correct or even fun. It is just lazy gamemechanics that most games use (WAR and AoC have similar things even if AoC have elephants and mamoths to break down the walls too).

The monkey thing would bring some realism as monkies fling shit. This could be used to infect any open wounds the defenders would have.
I guess there is a little on-demand button under the stream to watch the door thing.

The current stream shows like 20 people shooting a boss in the back while one tank stands in front of it. This is personally the reason I don't play MMOs anymore. I mean really.

Willing to try anything new
guys the group raid 1,is only half the equation ,in that if there had been some foe avail
there should have been a raid group 2 all the while this fight was going on there would have been pvp all the time
so that door took 1hour 15 minute with both group it probably would have took 2hour and half
with both faction
what you see here is only one side yet too early

Maybe an NPC boss that when killed the door opens?
Or a certain number of PCs/NPCs must die before you "break in"
