Why such a drop in the rating on the Game List?

MisterSrMisterSr Member UncommonPosts: 928

Okay, I understand it just came out and the hype is falling, and so the rating will fall. But the fact that it has dropped so drastically in just a matter of days astounds me, being this game is actually good. So why is it falling like this? Warhammer and LoTRo didn't drop this quickly after release, why is Aion. I literally looked at the rating maybe 3 days ago and it was a 8.51 and today is was at 8.36 and then dropped in an hour to 8.33. I just don't understand this, can someone enlighten me?

doesnt seem like a big drop at all probably just a bunch of new people voting or something  more people picking 8 than nine... you shouldn't be looking at the rating on this site anyway because it is absolutely meaningless.

Probably people interpreting the prime time queues and gold selling whispers as a bad launch.

In fact, the game had a phenomenally smooth launch compared to every other launch I participated in.

Tips for those suffering gold seller and queue woes: /anon to block the gold sellers altogether and go find something productive to do during queue times. The post that the game was the "most boring game in the world" when the guy fell asleep while staring as his queue ticker was hilarious.

.. But in a good way.

"Good" is subjective. You were right on the money with the hype.  No matter how great/good the game is, there is always going to be a fallout of people who no longer enjoy the game. Also, considering it isn't a perfect launch, the issues with the queueing is going to reflect in ratings, whether they be personally experienced or people who simply want to give their opinion. Everyone has an opinion, this is like news, everyone is talking about it right now. Generally when people get out to forums/websites etc, it's not to splurge on how much they are enjoying the game.

I agree that its meaningless in that way.

I think its all about the queue issue....That ppl are not only rating the game, they are rating AION + NCSoft.

So if the game is good, it can still get a lower rating caused by the publisher.....

Well my longest queue was like 40min on Castor (EU) and in most cases i dont have to wait to get in, but i really understand ppl if they are upset of it.

the drop is because people just like to complain.....even if a game is playable and stable at launch...they have to have something to cry about.....and the reason is fanbois of other games come to this site and troll, after so much trolling they will let u rate and down any game u want. It's mmorpg.com, site isnt what it used to be.

There is a very appropriate saying that goes with that. People enjoying the game in question generally are playing it, as opposed to posting on forums about it. Thus you have a large volume of negative posts compared to the few positive.

The game is a polished korean grinder - of course the rating will fall once people beging to realize it.

  • NizurNizur Member CommonPosts: 1,417

A game's rating will almost always cool off after launch. Especially when a game is as hyped as Aion was.

And as other's have stated already, the ratings here mean next to nothing.

    Current: None
Played: WoW, CoX, SWG, LotRO, EVE, AoC, VG, CO, Ryzom, DF, WAR
Tried: Lineage2, Dofus, EQ2, CoS, FE, UO, Wurm, Wakfu
Future: The Repopulation, ArcheAge, Black Desert, EQN

.. and WoW is a polished western grinder. The things they both have in common are that they are both very polished.

You're inability to understand is probably impaired by your inablility to recognize that your declaration that the game is 'good' is merely an opinion and not a fact.  Perhaps if you were able to acknowledge that other people perhaps don't think the game is 'good' you'd be able to understand the situation better.

You think it is good, clearly other people do not. When AoC released, I couldn't believe how high the rating was because I thought the game was a giant hunk of junk. That of course was right after release when everyone was still super hyped for it, but before long most realized it was a hunk of junk and the rating eventually went down.

Tried: LotR, CoH, AoC, WAR, Jumpgate Classic
    Played: SWG, Guild Wars, WoW
    Playing: Eve Online, Counter-strike
    Loved: Star Wars Galaxies
Waiting for: Earthrise, Guild Wars 2, anything sandbox.

Well it is hype and now that the game is out and people are actually playing it.  Probably some realize they don't like it. (gasp)  I believe it is a great game, but now it up to the ones who keep there subscriptions going or Aion might fall the way Tabula Rasa did.

Considering the rating some of the mmos get on this site I've never given much credence to it anyways, but I would imagine like others said it's because for some the game didn't live up to their expectations and for others they're probably pissed about the whole server queue thing.

    1. For god's sake mmo gamers, enough with the analogies. They're unnecessary and your comparisons are terrible, dissimilar, and illogical.

    2. To posters feeling the need to state how f2p really isn't f2p: Players understand the concept. You aren't privy to some secret the rest are missing. You're embarrassing yourself.

    3. Yes, Cpt. Obvious, we're not industry experts. Now run along and let the big people use the forums for their purpose.

One of the reasons may be Aion added a new word in MMORPG's...

    "Logging grind".

The time you spent grinding to log into a server.

Seriously folks. I don't understand NCSoft. Everyone knows the game surpassed the 400K players by now (those intelligent enough to use the tools).

Why do they still restrict it to 91K NA and 104 K EU players. (13 NA and 15 EU servers).

If you have 400K+ players .... you need 40 servers. (their number of players and servers from Aion Korea).

I think the rating is a reflection of the not-so-smooth launch.  NCSoft should have handled the queue situation a bit better.  We MMO players can be impatient.  Some of us only get to spare a few minutes a day playing, we shouldn't have to wait in queues.

Since you're talking about MMORPG-rating, it's and indicator of nothing.

It's based on nothing and shows nothing about the game, population or popularity.

Results are too easily manipulated in case someone sees fit, WoW is nowhere near the top5, there's turd like Vanguard near the top. The only one that is somewhat correct is EVE:Online being close to top, because it's actually a good MMO.

3000 ppl waiting on every server 3 hours on queue everyday waiting to play seem to disagree with you, but then again everyone is entitled to their opinion.

The drop is probably because its nothing new and quite a few are finding it boring post level 10.  From observation and a personal view,  people are actually doing quests, just they are so generic and dull it feels like griding.  Plus because of the queues its not uncommon for people to have moved servers a few times and repeatably gone through the same content.  The early quest lines and their settings are practically identical no matter which fraction you select.  There is also no true repeatability factor, as everything is so linear.  Classes also develop way to late.

There's also to greater a gap between acending and getting to the Abyss.  I personally feel PvP based games are better with a low level cap, which is easy to reach, with the focus on end game content.

My guess would be because more people have actually played it, and they realized it's pretty boring and the same as WoW, which is where most of them came from.

"There are two great powers, and they've been fighting since time began. Every advance in human life, every scrap of knowledge and wisdom and decency we have has been torn by one side from the teeth of the other. Every little increase in human freedom has been fought over ferociously between those who want us to know more and be wiser and stronger, and those who want us to obey and be humble and submit."

The answer to this thread is quite simple, the drop is there the same way the MMO with more subs in the world is not up there as well, because MMORPG.com has a vocal minority who tends to want to bash at anything that tries to go mainstream, besides EVE every single game up there in the rating regarding polish, subs and content has pretty much flopped and only has a handful of subs.

Hell even EVE who has been the king for a while as soon as it started to grow and become more mainstream dropped. Ppl here only vote high for anything that hasnt succeeded if you havent realized it by now, no problem, im glad to help.

And that rating system means jack sh** when compared to the actual success of the MMO if you havent noticed.

8.33 is way too high. We will see Aion balance out around 8.10 to 8.00. When a game first releases people give it high marks then as they leave they change the rating.

    PLaying: EvE, Ryzom

The only true way to find out if you like a game is try it out for yourself.  I don't bother with ratings or other peoples opinions.  You know what they they about opinions.  Dont worry about ratings.  Whatever the game try for yourself and you be the judge.
