You don't drop the price of anything if it's selling well, wether it's mmorpgs, magazines or lemonade.
This is a sign that the game has not sold as much as they thought it would, coupled with maybe a loss of initial accounts. There's no other sound reason for it.
Yeah price drops happen with games, particulary PC games. WoW hasn't dropped because it's selling fast and you can't blame Blizz for keeping the original price. As sales slow the price will drop though.
according to the EB i shop at...this price was only for the holidays...they said its going back up at the end of january. anyway, games always drop prices after a couple months, especially mmorpgs.

310,000 copies sold doesn't equate to 310,000 subscribers.
Judging by the reviews on this website (which is basically a few enthusiasts amid a long list of people who bought the game and decided to quit) a proportion of those 310,000 won't be continuing their subs.

Just go read the article please .It says 310k paying subs which means after the free month since the free month is erm well you know not paid.
Anyhow like you yourself said firemagic no one takes you seriously

I'm not sure what article you're referring to since one isn't referenced in this thread but even if there are currently 310,000 subscribers, anyone with even the slightest shard of intellect (yes - even you) can see that EQ2 is failing as a big-budget MMO, and will probably be remembered in a year or two as the disastrous successor to Star Wars Galaxies.
You people can only blame Sony's chronically bad reputation on Blizzard fanboys for so long before you'll just have to face up to reality.
There'll always be people who - for whatever reason - will struggle on with the game despite its glaring flaws, and good luck to them but EQ2 is just an awful game, plain and simple.

Went as far as to argue that its not 310k paying subs but copies sold.
I may or may not be as intelligent as you but at least i know when not to sound ignorant lol

Believe it or not I was replying to the post I quoted and since it didn't mention an article, I wasn't aware it referred to one. I'm sorry this is too complicated for you to understand, but I'm done quibbling with you over trivia.
Suffice to say, EQ2 is clearly going the same way as SWG, but no matter how many disastrous gaming blunders Sony make there'll always be people stupid enough to give them a second, third, fourth and fifth chance.
well, im off to play my low standard game with all its packed low-standard zones being played by a bunch of others with low standards having tons of quality low-standard fun, especially those of us in low-standard guilds.

can you please stop the EQ2 bashing? Everyone's entitled to their own opinion but making fun of other players because they like it is not tolerated here.
Saying the same stuff over and over is getting under people's skins and I think everyone here pretty much understand that you hate EQ2. Why don't you let it go now? It's getting old...fast.
I'm a complete advocate of stating how you feel on a game on these forums but stating it 20 times everysingle day is like taking a glass vase you dont like and hitting it with a baseball bat....pretty soon you have to stop swinging cause there is nothing left of the vase.
Just like that shattered vase, your point has been repeatedly made known to us to the point that we all know you hate this game and it has become rather mundane now.
Let's lay off the personal attacks of gamers who share a different view from you ok?

No I won't. Sorry about that.

And to continue the discussion (if I may?) $279,000 may be a lot to you and me, but Sony is one of the biggest corporations in the world and I'd be surprised if some stupendously rich fat guy in their HQ isn't having an aneurysm at the reports of EQ2's market performance.
At first when i read about Everquests reviews here i was shocked .
i thought SOE messed something up.but then it started to clear up.most ppl dissing it has either :
1.too low systemspec that they cant actually run it well with their crap system
2.hate SOE since the SWG mess up(i like it thou)
3.because they want ppl to join them in Wow or ...no its only wow ppl who comes here complaining .
i think Firemagic is just someone who cant let it go.and has become obsessed about Dissing this game.
i havent played EQ2 yet .so i dont know who is right but reading post like firemagics and hodge12's opinions makes me more and more determined to like EQ 2 whatever the cost.

You just hit the nail on the head. The people who are playing EQ2 awaited its release for months, years even and were determined to like it whatever the cost.
This is the purest definition possible of the word "fanboy".
First of all, there's no way the people on the EQ2 team are making over $250k a year. They get paid a set salary, and make bonuses, but the majority of the profits they make go into the Sony Corp bank account, and stuff trickles down from there.
As far as EQ2 goes, I'd like to say it was either bad or good, but they never had a free trial or open beta or anything like that, so I didn't have a chance to try it. That's one of the biggest mistakes they made imo. Open beta is important to deal with many issues unique to the MMO genre, but it's also a chance for some people to try the game out before buying. The 30-day subscription in the box is nice and all, but it's pretty much a standard, and if you don't like the game in the first day, you don't get your money back. Small free trials of even a couple days allow you to make the decision of whether or not to buy the game without having to toss away the unrefundable cost of the game. (MMO games are unique in this respect as well for the most part, as you have to use a cdkey to create your account to play the game, and you can't sell back or trade in the game because the key is a 1-time use only, as I'm sure you all know)
If EQ2 really does have 310k subscribers, good for them, but I dunno how 'successful' that is. I mean it's a good number, though EQ1 at it's peak had under 450k subrscibers, whether you want to look at that as good or bad in comparison with the 310k.
The thing is, I haven't really heard much about EQ2. The game everyone is talking about, is of course WoW. I see the displays in EB and the boxes on the shelves, but the majority of sites I go to are all talking about how they are consumed with WoW.
When you have to compete with "The Fastest Selling PC Game of All Time" , a drop in price might be needed to help up your own sales, which is what I believe the price change is about. Imo it's so they can entice people to play EQ2 instead of WoW2.
I don't know, perhaps I would love EQ2 more than WoW, but they never gave me a chance to try it, and I work hard for my money, and I can't blow it on something that may just go in the trash. So I'll play WoW. It's funny how the little things, done stupidly, can severely affect the success of a game.

I agree with Automan, from what Ive experienced, most of the people that come here and diss EQ2 seem to be people that can't run EQ2 at anything but extreme quality. If I was a kid and couldnt upgrade my computer I would play WoW too, but I wouldnt whine about it on forums and say the game sux.

For the record, the game ran great on my computer at just above medium settings with shadows on low. It was the actual gameplay that sucked.

Funny, i remember 9 months ago how people complained that SWG was still 49.95 and SOE were money grubbers.
Anyways, please stop with these "covert EQ2 sucks threads" you've been posting recently.
Either post one thread of why you don't like EQ2 or don't do it at all.
Either way, don't post anymore covert threads. People can see right through that and all it does is stir the nest of bees.
