Want to chat with the Devs? The Official STO IRC. "C'mon in!"

" So last night Craig Zinkievich (the Executive Producer of STO) just showed up unexpectedly and talked with us for an hour."

"Is that normal?"

"Very. Someone is always showing up.  C'Mon in!"

 From Cryptic Studios:

-------------------------------------

Hello!

We’re happy to announce the official IRC channels have moved to the Coldfront IRC servers. Due to feedback from the community, we felt it was important set up our own official channels, in a way that would allow us to monitor the servers ourselves and enforce our Usage Guidelines.

Getting Setup:

There are two ways to connect to the network.

The Easy Way

http://www.coldfront.net/pjirc/chat.htm

Type “/join #STO”

The More Complex Way

Connect using your client of choice (mIRC is an excellent one, found at http://www.mirc.com ) to irc.coldfront.net

Type “/join #STO”

Once you’ve connected, you should register your nickname by typing “/ns register <password> <email>”. You’ll receive an email with instructions on how to complete your verification. After you’ve done so, in the future you can connect using your nickname, and then type “/ns identify <password>”. This ensures that your nickname is reserved for use by you (when you’re online). If you ever find someone else is using your nickname, the chat will explain how you can boot them off of it.

Why is this more secure?

We have two layers of security involved with this network. If you type “/whois <nick>”, any Cryptic employee will show up as <nick>@vpn.crypticstudios.com. Elsewhere in that paragraph of text, it will also say “<nick> is a little bit Cryptic.” Both of these measures ensure that you know we’re who we say we are.

Need Help?

You can almost always find us in chat during normal work hours. Feel free to hit me up in IRC. My nickname’s “Cryptic_Daeke” as you could probably guess.

We highly encourage you to still spend time on the GameSurge network, as they’re definitely a bunch of great folks, but Cryptic’s official presence will now be maintained on the Coldfront servers.

"But do the Devs really hang out in there!?"

"Yup. Just last night, Craig Zinkievich, the Executive Producer just showed up and hung out with us for an hour and answered a lot of questions.   Someone is always dropping by."

Today, Awen was in.  Rekhan is on here now. Gozer is a common sight.  It really is THE place to be if you are really into STO.

We call it 'The Press Room.'

    See ya there!

The word on the offical forums is there are a ton of people on the irc, I prefer ours here actually, but I hear there are tons in their talking up a storm, sounds like a party if you like irc stuff go check it out and if you get any good tibits share it here! hehe

You never know what you're going to find in the IRC.

    Except awesome. That's a given.

The IRC can send me into epileptic fits some times..but I like it and the cats are always amused when I'm flopping around. And the Dev interaction is typical Cryptic, meaning they talk, listen, and respond. Hard to find that in a lot of games.
