It will play on the PS3 just like on the PC. You pop the disc in , install, after you install log in and play.
The hype is thats its 100% PvE orientated and not PvP, PvPvE, or wahtever else is out there. You probably ask whats the point in not adding PvP? Well thats because you won't have to worry about the dev mucking classes by trying to balance for PvP and PvE. A class can be just right for PvE but then ti will be overpowered for PvP so here comes the nerf. After the nerf it will be balanced for PvP but will extremely suck for PvE. That will go back and forth til they find an equal ground which will probably make it suck for both PvE and PvP. Another hype is that it will most likely be group gaming instead of hand holding easy quest like taking food to the bum across the streett. Another hype its Final Fantasy!!!!!
There is no hype, it fell off the hype list as of today anyways (10-2-09). I hope it stays that way, flying under the radar will help the game I think.

Actually it doesnt have to have pvp to nerf classes because ffxi had some class nerfs because their were overpowered classes or abilities or stats that made certain classes omwtf but i am curious to see how this game will turn out
How will it work on the PS3? I never played a MMORPG on a Gamesystem like Sony's. Please explain.
There is no hype at all,Square claims this is a 5 year project and kept it a secret all this time.Square is never into hype,i guess they just let their product sell itself.
IMO i am far less hyped up than when i first went into FFXI,that game had me stoked. This game in my case ,is more of a wait and see project.I am pretty sure i have 90% down pat,but they may surprise me with something ,they usually do.
I guess if you wanted some kind of hype,is that it will be a great looking game, that will probably also play well on an average PC.There is no secrets in this aspect,if they are going to deliver great looks and detail, something has to give.It might be short view distances or short rendering distances or both.Basically what i expect to see is great looks about 20 feet ahead of your player, and then it dithers fast after that.
The NEW aspect of this game,is something that might shock an average WOW fanbois>>>>No levels ..NO XP and on the fly class changing.Heck it shocks me lol, frankly i don't like the idea but we have to wait and see how well they do it.
One other aspect i don't like is how they are making the crafting type player weak in combat, what's the point of allowing that player in combat at all? really it's a dumb idea, make a crafter or a combat player. What this tells me is everyone will be FORCED to make two accounts or at least grind up two players ,so you can craft and combat.Crafting played a decent role in FFXI,i always hope for more crafting, but i will settle on not going with less.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

What are you talking about? On what basis would you think this?
You, yourself, already stated there would be "on the fly class changing". Why wouldn't you just switch between a crafting class and a fighting class on the SAME character? When you want to fight, you equip your sword and become a warrior. When you want to craft, you equip your harvesting sickle (or whatever) and become a crafter. It's a simple concept really. Why would you need to log onto a new character at all?
They are probably just allowing the crafter to participate in combat in case he/she gets ambushed while crafting (since it has already been stated that you can't change classes during battle). Or maybe there will be instances where you need to kill certain creatures as a crafting class to get a specific item. But generally, when the crafter wants to do battle, he/she just switches weapons and becomes a new combat class.
Regardless, I don't see the logical basis at all where you say two accounts or two characters are needed...
Edit: Oh, and not only do I think you won't be forced to make two characters, I actually think it will be detrimental to make two seperate characters with one being only combat and one being only crafting. You may need to use your combat class to get to a very tough area and once you are there you can switch to your crafter / harvester class to create / harvest nice items. A pure crafter / harvester who has never leveled a combat class will have a tough time getting to such areas...

I agree that makes no sense. what would make you think we would have to level 2 accounts or 2 characters?

Definitely agree, I hate it when games get hyped and when information is released a mass group of players come and complain about it.

Don't hype this game! xD
Lol you wanna talk about hype. Take a look at Fable 1, 2 & 3..... I fell for it the first 2 times. But I wont' on this third game.. They won't get me again!
There is just so much assumption, ignorance and blatant arrogance in this comment that I cannot even validate it with a rebuttal. It does not deserve one. A response, yes, you are a douche, but a rebuttal... you would probably be unable to comprehend the logic in one.

Because FFXI is the only mmo (that I know of) that lets you change jobs on one character. So he might be thinking that you only have four classes in FFXIV and you get to switch weapons/crafting tools in those classes only. FFXI was my first mmo. So going to play games like LOTRO and CoX, I had like 4-5 different characters with different jobs.

True, maybe that is what he is thinking... but the official website has already stated you can switch from being a disciple of war to a disciple of hand on the same character.

This made me laugh.
And it fell off the hype list, which I agree is probably good for the community sake.
and all MMOs wil have nerfs, but a PvPvE game will have them so many times it'll make you vomit.

So no kind of PvP in this upcoming FFXIV?
I think I read there will be arena type pvp.
