Personally, I don't think the graphics look nearly as good as the other MMOs in developement. Even a game like Jumpgate Evolution that will run on my 10 year old PC has better graphics IMO.
But just go over to Infinity or STO to see the kind of graphics a space game should have. If you want realism go Infinity, if you want fantastical, go STO.
But whatever, people aren't looking at SWTOR for the graphics, they want to be told a story with VOs and ahve a lot of traditional RPG aspects...
You know... at first i had a problem with the style for TOR as well. But then i replayed both KOTOR 1 and 2 and saw why they chose this art style.
And that would be..........??
I don't know his reason but I have a few. Most star wars games really never looked realistic. The art styles have always been about mid, ToR is breaking away from that a bit. This art style looks good, it's colorful, not bland. It will look great for many years, even when the "next-gen" rolls around.
The other reason being it's probably not to stressful for you PC to run. Kinda like WoW. It will run on older machines, this does not force people to upgrade to play. Actually that's one of the reasons I refused to play Conan at the time, I didn't feel like upgrading, I can run it now, but back then, WoW kept me happy and ran fine. Keeping the range of possible subscribers in a wide range is a good idea.
When the game is finished and released don't judge the graphics judge how smooth everything falls into place, from animations to lighting, everything. The art style looks different I'll give you that, but it may flow perfectly in the end.

They look terrible by today's standards? I replayed KOTOR a few months ago to keep from going insane and man...my eyes bled.
The first trailer where the ship full of sith crash in to the temple was amazing, the graphics were wonderful. Ever since then it keeps looking more and more of a cartoon to me. I'm ashamed to say this, but right now SWG has better graphics than this.

I think you're confusing art style with graphics. You are entitled to believe SWG looks better, I just find that a little hard to believe.

Pwned, and for great justice.
People don't seem to know what they're talking about when bashing TOR's graphics, claiming WoW or SWG have better...
Feel free to use my referral link for SW:TOR if you want to test out the game. You'll get some special unlocks!
I didn't care for it at first, but they've made some nice improvements, I think it looks great now.

you know im sorry to hear and understand this concept, people actually saying that TOR's graphics doesnt look good or compare to WoW, are you freaking stupid, take another look for example, you know its like talking to a brick wall. Bottom line is TOR's graphics is awesome.
played: EQOA,EQ1, EQ2, SWG, DAOC, FFXI, GW, WoW, Eve, Vanguard, COH/COV, Pirates of Burning Sea, Pirates of the Carribean, Freerealms, AOC, Warhammer, UO, Secondlife (LMFAO), The Matrix Online. Waiting for: SWTOR, STO
I think the graphics of the game are kind of sub-par, and it kind of bothers me. I'd say it's the art style, but that's not really it. I've seen concept art and I often think the concept art looks a lot better tahn the final product. I'm not sure what exactly bothers me about it. It just looks too plastic-like or something. In a way, I think SWG's graphics are better (even though they are six years old). Then again, the art style in the concept art does seem slightly less cartoonish than the final product. I'm not sure, I'm hoping the game looks a little better by the time it comes out. I realize they may be doing this so that more people can play it, so it;s not so demanding in the pc req. department.
Yes they are big time sub par,but so are WOW graphics and look how many support that game.I agree graphics don't make a game, but they are a large part of it,especially when you are copying and trying to recreate an epic like Star Wars.
There is tons of small parts of a game, developers could remove and people will probably support but ,but graphics is not a small part of a game. When you design a game, you have a vision, well if that vision cannot be seen to it's fullest because of poor graphics,it fails. What bothers me ,is the still large amount of people who have next to no knowledge of how games are made quality wise. There is actually tons ,probably 60% of the wow crowd ,actually think WOW has good graphics,it's sad.
This lack of knowledge is what the cheap developers thrive on,they figure what you don't know can't hurt you and they may be right. However to those who do know, what the heck they are looking at,these developers fail.
Now in saying this,i played and supported a low poly game in FFXI.The game truly was an epic game, far outclassing it's graphics. However Square claimed their hands were tied,by the limitations of the Playstation console.I think you will see come FFXIV's release ,it will be the best looking MMORPG to date and it may release about the same time as the Star Wars game. Then you have to ask yourself, why can Square do it and the others can't?
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.
