Hey all, currently i have a Recom Backdraft case, and my HD4870 has 0,5cm space between the card and the HDD bay
So currently iam looking for a new case, and noticed the Cooler Master Cosmos 'S' will it be able to place the HD5870x2 in it? it's estimated that it's 1,5 inch bigger then the 5870, and the 5870 is a little bigger then the GTX295
Also, does it have a good airflow? as iam going to buy a Megahalem CPU cooler to OC my i7 920 to 4ghz-4.2ghz as the i7 920 @ stock cooling will be a bottleneck to the HD5870x2
any help will definatly be appreciated.
PS: Would a Corsair HX1000 work for 2x HD5870x2's? (Will be upgrading my i7 920 to a Hexacore intel in 2010 MAYBE) so actually, is the HX1000 able to suck on 4 GPU's?

Cosmos is ok case, quite pricey tho. Airflow can be seriously upgraded with better fans.
1 kW psu will have no trouble handling those, not matter how much you'd overclock.
Personally, I have the Cooler Master HAF 932, and I swear you could park a dump truck in it.
Right now the price is right from New Egg at $139.99 (usually $159.99)
Not to mention that the airflow is absolutely superb.
And to top it off, it looks good. I did what one of the reviewers did and painted the insides a flat black.
Anyway, good luck with whatever you decide on.

The thing I don't like about the cooler master HAF is all the mesh. It makes creating a strong airflow impossible because the air escapes through the mesh. A year ago I would have suggested a Thermatake Mozart Cube Case because of how its air compartments are setup, but it can no longer hold a full length video card. Right now I am using a Thermaltake Xaser VI which is huge and heavy, so I would suggest a Thermtake Armor+ or an Antec 1200
Take alook at the Cooler Master 830 stacker, lots of room big tower well made, I have 8 fans and in mine.
Jihad works both ways

Thanks for the replies, but still my main question hasn't been answered yet
Will a HD5870x2 fit in it? but i know it's hard to answer as it's not out yet, an optional question is: How much space is there between a GTX295/HD5870 and the HDD Bay?
And i want to get the Cosmos S instead due to the great looks, my Recom Backdraft has blue lights, Open Window and this time i want it more basic, and the Cosmos S looks simple and great at the same time.
Also thanks for letting me know a Corsair HX1000 could take up to 3-4 GPU's .
Also the stacker 830 that isn't available in my country (831 SE in my country is available though) is more expensive then the Cosmos S, by €10 i like the looks though but i prefer the Cosmos.
Great site when you are looking info on cases.

I always used Mountain Mod cases myself.
With the Radeon HD 5870 X2 not yet out, the full specs aren't known, and in particular, while people have estimates of the length, I the exact length may not be known. While the Radeon 4870 X2 is rated at a TDP of 300 W, it can draw as much as 369 W while running Furmark. Double that for two cards and add another 250-300 W for a heavily overclocked processor at heavy load and you could push the system over 1000 W at extreme loads. A Corsair power supply rated at 1000 W can probably deliver more than that at peak, but that's still pushing it, so I'd say it's not guaranteed that it would be enough to be safe. It would probably be fine if you never stress test it with Furmark, OCCT, Linpack, Prime95, etc. You could wait until some reviews of the Radeon HD 5870 X2 are out; if the overcurrent protection that is new to the Radeon HD 5000 series won't allow the card to draw over 300 W, you'll be fine with that power supply.
Obviously, if you get one Radeon HD 5870 X2 rather than two of them, a Corsair 1000 W power supply would be massively overkill, and you could probably save some money and get an 800 W or so from a good brand.
lol forgot to mention that. The Armor+ Super Tower is a little less then 15" from the rear slots to the HDD cage. I am also pretty sure the HDD cage is removable for even more room. The HD5870 is a little under 12" long so it should fit fine. It should fit in any full tower case over $100. If it doesn't it can be modded to fit.
Thanks for the answers guys
And also about the HD5870 power consumption, it's lower then the HD4870
But iam not going to get a second HD5870x2 for sometime, i just want to buy a PSU now that is future proof for 3 or 4 GPU's, i dont want to spend €140 now for a 850W and have to buy a new PSU in half a year.. so i prefer to spend €60 more now, then to buy a complete new PSU for €200, 140+200=340 and 200 + nothing = 200.
Also, i've heard that the TRUE Cpu cooler or Megahalem fit in the Cosmos S case, even with the Revisioned version, and that you actually have to destroy the big side panel Fan in order to use it, or buy a Windowed Panel for it which is €35 (total cost of €235)
That's kinda annoying.
Damn 8 fans can you even hear what your playing? I have 2 plus my video card and its loud enough as is. Granted I can turn the speed down in the graphics and my rear fan but I crank up what im playing so I cant hear it.
But I fear I'll need to get a new case soon as well. I don't think my Super Lanboy can hold cards much bigger than my 4850. Well I guess I can mod it and cut out a space where there is other hard drive slots I only have one drive anyways.
Well, to be honest, I have done some modifications as far as all the mesh goes. With a little creativity, using some 1/8" polycarbonate in strategic places helps direct the air a little more proficiently.
I basically just like the HAF's looks overall. Plus it had either top or bottom PSU mount. The Antec 1200 is a nice case also. I guess I am just a sucker for that style is all.
As far as room goes, my EVGA GTX 295 Co-Op has no problem fitting in the HAF.
Anyway, I hope the OP finds what he needs.
Good luck.

The the Radeon HD 5870 uses about 30% of the power of the Radeon HD 4870 at idle (27 W versus 90 W), which is what matters if the question is what your electricity bill will be. However, it uses more power at load (188 W versus 160 W), which is what matters for how big of a power supply you need. At the moment, you're considering the latter. Still, we don't know how much the X2 version will use.
It will be lower then 2 HD5870's though, always has been with the X2 versions.
but a HX1000 is good enough for 3 GPU's though? for example 1 HD5870x2 and 1 HD5870
Yes, and easily. It would probably also easily be good enough for two Radeon HD 5870 X2s if you give your processor at most a modest overclock, though that could make a lot of games processor bound. The Radeon HD 5000 series has a hardware overcurrent protection that the 4000 series lacked, and if that caps the Radeon HD 5870 X2 at 300 W (which it may or may not do), you'll be pretty safe.
While an X2 doesn't double the power consumption of a single card, a card can use more power than its rated TDP. ATI cards can do this more easily than Nvidia cards, as ATI cards are based on an architecture of grouping the shader cores into sets of five, all of which must execute the same instruction at a given time. If the card needs the set of cores to execute one instruction a zillion times in a row, it can keep all five cores working at load constantly. If no two consecutive computations use the same instruction, then it will always be one core executing it while the other four sit idle. It's very hard to keep all of the cores stressed, which is why a Radeon HD 4870 is a considerably slower card than a GeForce GTX 285 in spite of having a much higher theoretical peak GFLOPS performance, but if a program does push all the cores to constantly execute something (as Furmark and OCCT do), power consumption goes through the roof. If the hardware overcurrent protection of the Radeon HD 5000 series that the Radeon HD 4000 series lacked is able to stop this, then using the rated TDP would be safe. Basically, we'll have to wait for the Radeon HD 5870 X2 to release to know for certain.
