Not just since launch. .its not NOT a new mmo where you think.. hmm its ok it just lanuched so their working out the bugs and stuff HAHA

The fact that your relating the Asian market with the west market shows that your very naive.  The reason quests weren't added were most likely because the Asian market doesn't mind the grind and majority of the west market doesn't really like it, so they'll go to the Aion forums and complain about that certain aspect of the game.

I for one have no problem with the grind because it usually weeds out the complainers and whiners.  It also reminds me of my old roots from past mmo's, but that's just me.

Everyone has opinions, but does that make them the universal truth??? NO!

I do not share in all the OP's opinions, but there are some legit concerns in his post.

Crafting:  Whether picking plants or making gear, those damn progress bars (be it succeed or fail) need to move a WHOLE LOT FASTER!  No lie, I have seen the bars just sit for 30 seconds and NOT MOVE, then move about a quarter of an inch, only to sit motionless for 15 seconds, and yeah... snore...

30 seconds here and 15 seconds there is not much by themselves, but add it up and it does make crafting take forever.

The lack of channels at higher levels is interesting and can be problematic if you want to solo grind, but I think the idea is to foster grouping at this level.  I could be wrong.

The lack of chat box customizeability is a legit gripe.

While I can block 99.999% of the gold spam, NCSoft really does need to nip this in the bud, and quick.

The lack of inventory space is vexing at times, especially since many quests load you up with items to deliver.  Add in the insane number of reagents required for crafting, and yeah, this is a problem even if you have bought all 3 extra cube spaces.  They need to take a cue from PWI and have a seperate quest inventory.  A seperate mats and craft inventory would be sweet too.

I have experienced only one queue of 10 minutes and virtuallu no lag, so I cannot relate to that.

Here's a couple of beefs of mine to add to the list.  I am not gonna quit over it but it is very frustrating:

I get so tired of my commands being suggestions.  What do I mean?  I don't know how many times I have hit a skill button (via keyboard or mouse) and have nothing happen at all.  With Assassins and Rangers, this can be lethal.  It is like I hit a skill toggle and nothing happens, the toon just stands there and gets pummeled.

Sorcerers and Spirit masters are notorious for not doing their auto attack, and for me, it takes two hits of the button to make them do it.  Rangers trying to switch from bow to daggers can be an angering experience when they simply won't switch the weapons out.

Another small peeve:  Why is it dead bodies are easier to target than the mob hitting me????

Brought my copy back to the store today for most of the above mentioned reasons.

All that Aion has to offer is just not enough game for me to pay 49eur and 13Eur monthly.

The game wasn't entertaining me, instead i had to look for how to entertain myself in the game. In the end, for me it came down to PvE = grind, PvP = gank or which party has the bigger zerg on an encounter.

Too bad, now i'm here without a game again and i also really liked my asmodian sweety. I love playing healers and did so in all the games I've played so far, but a) healing is quite bad in Aion for various reasons incl. the UI, spells and other and b) to level a cleric is like watching the gras grow when you don't constantly have a group at hand.

I could go on and write alot more, but everything good and bad about the game is said on these forums already.

I am just glad I cancelled my collectors edition preorder in closed beta. I may look at the game later in time, but the game bored me to tears after I leveled up a few characters and found it was just another boring themepark game with grinding mixed in. I thought the abyss was decent, but this is a game I will pass on and hope one day to find a good  MMO again.

    1. The leveling. After 20 theres no doubt about it quests become rare and the XP is lacking even from the ones you run into. Grinding isn't necessarily my thing. Though someone can argue that grinding mobs is no different than grinding quests but straight grinding is monotonous.
If you can't find quests after 20, you either don't know where to look, or you're just not doing the quests you have.  There are multiple level 20-ish quests in Verteron still, and Eltnen has quests from 20-30+. Theobomos also has numerous quests for the 20's.  Obviously once you get to 25 you can go into the abyss of which every 2 levels you pretty much get a whole new line of quests to start.  Don't forget to do all your campaign quests, because sometimes you need to do a campaign quest in order to open up a future campaign quest. Not to mention these give a LOT of experience.
    2. Crafting and gathering. The game almost makes me feel like I need to level these two, and when it came down to it I had 200 Iron Ore that took nearly 30 minutes (Or more) to smelt into bars. There's an issue there. I've also heard of people spending over four hours just doing work orders to level their craft. This doesn't settle well with me. The drop rate on required fluxes is unsettling as well. I've had to drop over 100k Kinah on Fluxes just for a shot at making a blue item, just a shot...
Or maybe you should have friends and/or Legionaries that can give you fluxes and such... I've had NO problem what-so-ever with crafting, gathering, and fluxes.  Sure, I had to take a couple hours to get my gathering from 1-..somewhere in the mid-200's, but what other game has you level it up a lot faster than that?  My Legion members give me all the armor fluxes they receive, and I give them Weapon and Accessory fluxes.  Don't forget you gain a bit of exp as you're collecting and crafting, as well.  It may not be MUCH, but it's better than a sharp stick in the eye.
    3. Bag room/space. Very lacking and you're expected to pay mass amounts of Kinah to expand your cube. My bags are always full because of the gathering materials/gems I'm always picking up while leveling.
There's a quest that gives you 9 free bag slots... so if it gets "too" expensive for you, you can do that quest.
    4. Certain mechanics. In my opinion some abilities need to be taken off the GCD. Like a Gladiator's Crippling Cut for example. Sprint causes my character to fly across the screen occasionally (Well, more than that) when used. Ranger's Stunning shot deals 200-400 damage but I've have it crit over 1k. There was another post about this I believe. Random numbers are random and don't make sense.
Not sure about sprint, but I haven't heard my assassin friend complain about it.  But in terms of the lottery damage: What, you're sad that you can't 4-shot people?
    5. Queues. I'm not into waiting 2 hours or more to get into the game. I'm not sure why they opened with so few servers, especially with the game being out for a while in Asia.
I never have problems with queues... I either go to log in about 30 min before I want to actually play, or I play later on.  Queues have REALLY gone down and they have opened more servers.  Not to mention, queues mean that the server is almost constantly full, which is incredibly important to the play-style of the game.
    6. Channels in the 1-10 and 11-20 zones but none for the zones above that? It's hard enough to muster the intention of grinding, but when I do I have to worry about large masses of people all over doing the same.
Only problem there is with this is in The Abyss. Solution? Go elsewhere.  If you're still in your 20's, you can do the latter quests in Eltnen or do quests in Theobomos (of which Theobomos has 2 channels, btw).
    7. Gold spam. This is out of hand. And I need to log onto their main site to place in a ticket! This is ridiculous. I can block all the spammers I want but it seems like theres an army of them.
    This, I agree with.
    8. Lag. Constant disconnections are happening left and right for many players. Once again, with the game being out for some time you would imagine they have a pretty hefty revenue to make the game smooth and solid, but apparently not. The other night the server randomly came down without word as well, which will also lead me to my next point
I've only been disconnected twice since I played the game (including headstart). Maybe it's your ISP? Heck, I'm on COMCAST.
    9. Communication. When the server went down we received no word at all on the status of our server for 4 hours. When word finally came out, it was a Twitter update. This is very- VERY poor communication with customers. Forums were packed with threads and no one knew what was going on at all because after a certain point we couldn't even see the server lists. Another issue is there are no updates on the launch client. Nothing at all. When servers are down for maintenance.. I wouldn't know. It would just tell me I couldn't connect to the servers and kick me off the game. This causes a lot of confusion. Lastly, petitions need to be carried out through their website- wtf? I begin to wonder if they even have any game masters at all.
Again, this I agree with. NCSoft is lacking here.
    10. As mentioned earlier. No in-game support.
But they sent me a survey! /endsarcasm
    11. Chat. The opacity and font cannot be changed which is a bother for me as I find the text to be far too large and even with my chat filtered I find it difficult to keep up with legion/party/whisper chats. The lack of a command list irks me as well.
You're leaving for this?  You can change the text size, you can change the font colors, and you can create new tabs and unlock the tabs.
    12. Triggered emotes- these are just annoying...
I just think they need to fix the ones that go off when you don't want them to.
    13. Oh screw it, you get the point. I won't be returning until serious changes are made.
I doubt you'll be coming back, then...

Where or where do I get a quest that gives me 9 more backpack slots? cause thats the biggest issue for me sofar, that and the gold seller spam.

It's called, go out and grind for cash and then pay the cube artisan huge amounts of money to upgrade.  It's not an actual quest.

Actually....you're wrong.  Some of us do care, and for assorted different reasons.  First of all, I want to know what everyone ELSE experiences with this game, because I know what my issues with it were in CBT, and I would like to have an HONEST assessment of what has, OR HAS NOT, changed.  I see that nothing has changed so far.  And this let's me know that , at least for now, my decision to NOT play AION on release....was a good one.

I want to see these kinds of comments and opinions because they function as progress updates for me, personally.  Because eventually, I'm hoping to read some that will make me WANT to pick the game up again.

    Also....

I was going to make a wager on the length of time it would take for someone to respond to the OP with:

Im level 23 and I have over 10 quests (not inc repeatables) 3 current campaign quests and about 8 ???? colour campaign quests, so I dont get how people can run out of quests at level 20. I still have another zone to visit as well and im not even finished in my current one.

Lag, yup im getting lag with the mass overpopulation, hope it calms down soon.

Goldspammers are out in force, bloody annoying.

Crafting and Gathering are a big chore, but mainly because theyre needed and are an important part of the game. Gathering in particular is needed for loads of quests at level 20+, and 400xp per gather adds up over time as well.

The chat window is dreadful and considering how new tis game is, doesnt have the functions of many older games.

Bag and bank room and space is a big goldsink compared to other games.

Im still enjoying playing, but its clear that Aion isnt a game you can fly through with ease. The levelling is much slower than wow or lotro, you need to keep both your gathering skills high, crafting and selling your wares is an important part of the game and you need to have plenty of money for skills, bag space, gear and consumables. You also need to group a lot and will be relying on other players. Some people are going to like the tougher pace, others arent. I guess it comes down to your own personal preferences and how burnt out you are on MMOs in general.

I'll tell you Jim Smith, because they expect to be handed all the quests without effort.

I'm lvl 29 and I have a log book full of quests I didn't finish. spent a bit of time yesterday doing some which is what helped me get to 29.

Though there are small missions that lead players to quest hubs, sometimes there are just hubs sitting there for the player do discover. Also, all quests are not made available for the player to see. An NPC that doesn't have an arrow over it's head one day/one level will suddenly get one the nextt level.

Well I care OP because I haven't bought the game yet and sitting on the fence.  I'm not big on jumping into games because it's not WoW like people seem to these days, The general impressions I get seem to point to this game being your typical Korean grinder like Lineage which will most likely result in a mass exodus of people once again finding out a new game is not WoW 2 like has happrned in mainstream MMO's that have launched in the last few years.

  • DkompozeDkompoze Member UncommonPosts: 245

I agree with the OP as well, game is just down right boring and feels cheap. Almost like im paying for a silk road online with new graphics and cheezy pvp. The pvp is garbage as well.. I got the game after reading all the stuff in these forums and boy was i fooled. Thanx fanbois for making we waste my money... canceling my account and waiting for another mmo to come i guess.... have fun with that crap fest

P.s. The guy on first page that gave it a 8.0 rating but then said he would quit if it got more grindy at 30... how the F can you give something like this a 8 and then say your gonna leave in the same sentence... lololololololol

Yup the game is over-hyped much like every MMO that released since WoW, the game is decent it just lacks choices in character development and I can't seem to immerse myself in the world because of the cheap anime story. Also not a big fan of auto-follow combat and the dependency on consumables but those are personnal preferences.

I too agree with the OP.  The grind is way too much for my liking.  I rather farm rep/gear then spend any more time grinding in between quests.

Find it funny how everyone's bitching about the typical Korean/Asian MMO being....*omg!* a typical Korean/Asian MMO. Personally, I like to grind for a few hours with a group...I remember in Lineage II getting a group and grinding angels in ToA for hours; we had a blast.

Even though it's a WoW-utility it alters the rate at which WINDOWS will send out TCP/IP packets. So it will work with any app that uses the Internet. In WoW while in dalaran I had ~200ms ping during peak time now I have ~150ms. And a steady less-than 90ms ping Northrend-wide (was 115ms).*

*As always YOU should be the judge as to whether or not you need things like this.

As for the semi-World Instancing, read your reviews Eurogamer stated it was instanced up to lvl 20; I'm sure others did too. Yes it kind of sucks because you get use to having areas to go that aren't crowded and then *wham!* you're dropped in with everyone else. But you also have to remember you're on the leveling curve right now. Anyone who started Aion the day it was released will most likely be entering the same level ranges as you when you do.

If anyone played WoW during Wrath's launch you know how it was with quest mobs being camped in Borean/Fjord...EPL/Hellfire was DK-Central.

So, yes, wait a bit and the early levels won't be as crowded, but don't go off blaming the game; any game that doesn't do Instanced Zones (think AoC) will have crowded 'Entry Zones' for the first month at least.

Crafting? sounds like some here are spoiled by WoW...and it sounds like they're using LotRO's crafting method were you can crit and get a Superior item; only in Aion it doesn't seem like there's reagents you can add to increase the crit chance?

Queues? yes, lets add a ton of servers so after the 30 free days over half of them are empty. It's a pain in the ass to consolidate servers.

Communications? Blizzard has occasionally done this. And I pretty sure if the player base posts about it that NCsoft will not wait 4+ hours before stating server status. Chalk it all up to launch-day mayhem.

Petitions: from some reading it looks like they do have in-game petitioning, but prefer you to use the offline one. Anyone who's filed petitions in WoW recently will know that you get the "We are currently experience a high volume of petitions...." message. Can you imagine how long the wait is in Aion...during launch week?!

All-in-all, I would say there's a lot of people here that want Aion to be WoW; these are also the same people who then turn around and complain when an MMO copies WoW. If you don't like a game then DON'T PLAY IT. Rest assured that you will make many more mistakes that cost more than $49.99 USD in the future.

I am saddened though that they did Aion and not Lineage III :(

They were wroking on L3, there were issues, the head dev left, many people then quit. They are now making their own engine for L3 and will continue working on it.

All I see is someone complaining that the game is to hard for them.

Oh brother.  That is actually the most ignorant "fanboi style" comment I've seen in the ENTIRE thread.

How are the BELOW things "complaining the game is too hard?".........................

Rather disappointed with the game, for many reason but most importantly-

    1.......Grinding isn't necessarily my thing.

    5. Queues. I'm not into waiting 2 hours or more to get into the game. I'm not sure why they opened with so few servers, especially with the game being out for a while in Asia.

    7. Gold spam. This is out of hand. And I need to log onto their main site to place in a ticket! This is ridiculous. I can block all the spammers I want but it seems like theres an army of them.

    8. Lag. Constant disconnections are happening left and right for many players. Once again, with the game being out for some time you would imagine they have a pretty hefty revenue to make the game smooth and solid, but apparently not. The other night the server randomly came down without word as well, which will also lead me to my next point

    10. As mentioned earlier. No in-game support.

    11. Chat. The opacity and font cannot be changed which is a bother for me as I find the text to be far too large and even with my chat filtered I find it difficult to keep up with legion/party/whisper chats. The lack of a command list irks me as well.

    12. Triggered emotes- these are just annoying...

At least all of THESE points (quoted from the OP).....are technical problems....not someone "complaining that the game is too hard for them."  And frankly, his or her "complaints" are mighty small compared to some I've read in other threads.

Why don't people grow some balls to at least ADMIT when a game they happen to adore has ISSUES?  No game is perfect.  But to get all smug and "fanboi-ish" about it and cry "troll troll" or "go back to WoW" or "the game just must be too hard for you" when someone has LEGITIMATE complaints, makes all of you present AION players that DO so....look like complete idiots that most people wouldn't be interested in spending hours playing with ANYWAY.  You do nothing to make your favorite game look GOOD when you can't admit simple technical problems.  Sure....some things are opinions....tech issues are not. They are things NCSoft needs to DEAL WITH.

I am confident that, in time, NCSoft will address SOME (not all) of the issues that have been mentioned in this thread, and in many others. But to pretend there ARE NO issues?  That's just silly.

Aion does aton of things right and if you cant see that I feel sorry for you. You won't find a better MMO for awhile. I have no interest in TOR or star trek so I plan on sticking around for along time. The longer it takes me to get to 50 the better!! It'll make 50 as that much sweeter :-) I tried sick of easy, mindless MMOs that require no brains whatsoever to get to max.
If you don't like Aion cancel your sub. It'll free up room for other people and we wont have to listen to you whining and complaining ingame.
Good luck where ever you end up!!

This is one of the most interesting opinions I've seen in mmo's you are sick of grinding quests but have no problem just mind numblingy grinding mobs?  If getting to group with your legion is of importance why would it matter if someone was on a quest or not if ultimately the point is grouping with your kin?  Ok you are tired sick of easy/mindless mmo's that require no brains whatsoever, maybe it's just me but I expend alot more brain power reading up on quests and trying to achieve those specific objectives than I do literally running around killing everything in site especially if I'm doing it because it's the only form of advancement I have.  Honestly you sound as if you are trying to excuse them for not having enough quests in game which is no excuse as we already know in any mmo you can choose not to do a single quest and you will still advance your toon so how does not having enough options make something better?

Now I understand Korean mmo's are more about grinding so it's no surprise they don't have enough quests yet but I wonder when they add quests if you will still hold the same opinion or if you will infact grind quests just like the rest of us do.

There's nothing wrong with you liking the game as is because many are going to but why try to turn a negative into a positive?  There is no single good reason you should be FORCED to grind mobs for countless hours to advance, period if you and your legion chose to grind for hours and leave the quests out nothing wrong with that but to not have the option is just silly and it's almost as silly to come on here and try to justify that as something that people have been waiting for.

but yeah, to call this game Fantastic is like calling Twilight the Godfather of vampire movies....
