Oh believe me, I put most of the fault on the lazy asshats who buy the gold, It is indeed their fault. Problem is, you are always going to have lazy people who buy it. And by putting the sellers in jail, well that would be nice but maybe not practical. Fine them huge, like in millions so they won't have funds to reopen anywhere. And some should be prosecuted. In some countries they literally kidnap people and force them in huge numbers to "farm gold" in games. This is a fact, go google it. Those people need to go to jail. And the others make hundred of thousands of dollars to millions for the largest companies. While some may pay the people doing the work $2 a day, most pay nothing. In other words a sweat shop. So those people need to go to jail too, because that is a crime. So yes, some need to go to jail and is NOT a waste of time and money. Some need to pay fines equal to their total income. I don't have any magic answers or a wand to wave. But I do know that something SERIOUS needs to be done and not just some vague attempt at stopping them. Right now the industry stands at FAIL. Thats my 2 cents worth, your mileage may vary.
Yes I have researched it and it is true. Some of the stories from gold spamm kidnapped slaves that have escaped and told thier stories are quite horrifying indeed. Yes it is really bad. They shold be arrested. Really do some research for yourselves the truth you may find will shock you!
Type /anon and you will not show up in the search which is what the spammers use to find you so they can whisper you. Your friends can still wisper you, but will not see you so you will have to drop them a line if you want to chat. Pair that up with the right click and block for the spam in the chat channels and you won't see a single spammer for hours on end. When there is a new one, block him. Rinse and repeat. If your block list is filling up, simply delete the blocked names after a couple of days, since the spammers change their toons daily (usually). As far as the scams go, common sense is key here. If it is too good to be true, it probably is. I saw a bot by the name of Marsso spamming 500K free kinah by signing up at a website. The stunner is, there were many folks admitting to going to his site in the chat.
Right clicking and blocking is NOT working for me for some reason. It stops the tells but not the chat spams. ANd spammers in this game do not have to change thier names because NCsoft doesn't care. I have seen some of the same names doing it since release and obvioulsy have not been banned yet! I was curious about this and have wrote names down on a sheet of paper . The game has been out now for what 2 weeks? I havo over 300 names on a seperate sheet of paper now and that's just from Lumiel server.....
the way they are dealing with gold spammers is idiotic. The gold spammers use the general chats and find group ones constantly wihtout nothing happening to them.. at least they spam the websites and prices freely using the same nick for 1 2 or more days. Add to that you get constantly spammed on wispers by them too.. i mean come on aint that hard to auto ban people sending messages with websites and $values or Euros altogether..
I have even noticed now lately that they are no longer using (Fojsldhf) gibberish names anymore but are using normal sounding names and actually getting in groups only to start spamming about the time the group gets started. It beats anything I have ever heard of!
Ok I am now done with this thread. Thanks for the moral support everyone. I feel a little bit better now but I'm still cancelling my aion account until something is done . I am beginning to fear for my sanity! I will check back from time to time over the next few days but won't be replying so keep the moral support coming ~ !
Ok I just went and right clicked the spammers names on my wife's computer and apparantly it has done the trick. I no longer see the names in chat channels. She is running the game on an intel dual core computer w/windows vista Ultimate?
However when I do it on my computer it is not working!!! It blocks the tells but not the chat spams. Anyone know why this is happening to me. I run on an older 3800+ single core w/ windows XP
I also use the hide feature to not get spammed, and i stopped looking at the gobal channel a long time ago due to the WoWtards. i'm in a great in guild if i need a group i ask in guild. but yes they do need to get their heads out of their asses and do something along with added a right click/report feature. when Peons was infesting wow it was this bad and why blizz added the easy report.
GOOD> Models, design, flight, horizontal and vertical PVP, and NC soft seems to actualy LISTEN to the forums. Very nice!!!
BAD> Mouse control SUX. It is realy squirely and the vertical mouse control is not smooth at all, There are not enough dungeons to run through for quests. The quests are not imersive enough. many people complain about this.
My biggest pro is the aggro mechanics arent bad at all, and the city guards will save you from MOB death.
my biggest conn is the simplicity of the class structure. 8 classes, sorry but thats not enough. not even close. i gave the game a try.... i'm still playing.... but this fact is realy bothering me the more and more I play. One in every 8 people will be the same as you. yes they may have orange hair and they may be a midget, but their skillset is exactly like yours.
Who said individuality and class variation is bad. I'll play AION until a GROWN UP game comes out.
One in every 8 people will be the same as you. yes they may have orange hair and they may be a midget, but their skillset is exactly like yours.
this is like saying that every chess player has the same pieces, or that every boxer has two gloves, every team has the same type of players etc...
No... it's like playing chess with only Pauns and rooks.... or boxing with only jabs and hooks..... or playing football with only linemen and quarterbacks....
the more class variability a game has the more complicated it becomes.... sooooo.... fewer classes equils simplicity of play.... generaly that is.....
I enjoy complexity... so I want more classes... you may be satisfied with Arena football.... but I like the NFL ... if you don't get what I'm saying .... I'm sorry..... comparing MMO's to chess and boxing is stupid anyway.
I had a similar problem. What I was doing "wrong" was that I was typing [ /block <name> ] , with the first letter of the name in lower-case. This results in the system returning the message that the player is blocked, but it does not actually do anything.
If you do what I did, right-clicking will NOT work, until you first type [ /unblock <name> ]. Then you can right-click block, or use [ /block <name> ] (with the first letter of the name capitalized) and it should work.
Hopefully this helps, I was as frustrated as you until I figured it out. Played last night for about 5 hours, blocked 4-5 spammers in that time. Doesn't seem to bad to me for a new game, but I'd like to see the spam diminish over the next couple months.
No... it's like playing chess with only Pauns and rooks.... or boxing with only jabs and hooks..... or playing football with only linemen and quarterbacks....
I think this is something that you deliberatly mis-interpret. The point that I was making is that having identical "moves" or "abilities" does not make people identical. There is a large number of variability in many aspects of the gameplay, now whether that is enjoyable to you or not is a different question.
If you get beat in WoW's Arena or Aion pvp - that's because the other guy is better than you (not as a human being, but at pushing some buttons in some, optimal order).
Any popular MMO these days has gold spamming problems right after launch. LOTRO was awful in the early days. Not to worry, NCSoft will smash em. The spammers that were hitting chat channels last night were getting caught by GM's on my server. There was even an announcement that they were aware of them and what to do to report them. I'm usually too busy to even pay attention to them.
HEH now where was that screenshot again?? Has NCsoft paid MMORPG to delete it? I smell a conspiracy here....
Naw... that was my bad. They don't allow RMT site ads on here, or links to such sites (+1 for mmorpg.com), and the screenshot I posted is littered with them. I should have blurred them out.
Here's the image with the address blurred out... This *shouldn't* be a violation now...

Well I can't take it any longer. Never have I played a game where gold spamming is as rampant as it is in AION. It is getting worse every day and NCsoft apparantly aren't doing anything about it. It started out with mainly constant "tells" I could block those ,,,no problem but today when I logged in I noticed it has spread to an almost constant stream ..Litterally hundreds of gold spamming bots are flooding ALL the chat channels and blocking them has no effect in the chat channels. I can't even send or read a message as the chat is scrolling way to fast to keep track. And it's all gold spamming. It is driving me insane! I am almost to the point of cancelling my account and I was really enjoying the game! Any sugestions as I have been told that blocking the spam names stops it. But for me blocking them only has stopped the tells ...no effect on chat channels? Any suggestions would be welcomed!
Not sure if anyones mentioned it here but you go /anon ingame so they cant send you gold tells anymore. At least they dont for me anyway.
You have to do this command each time you log on. I usually forget but once I get my first gold spam its become automatic for me now. Hope this helps!!
That worked for a short time. The RMT have gotten wise to it, so now they simply spam the chat channels.
Incidentally... I whipped up a quick new logo for them.. I'm thinking of presenting it to them, as sort of a "parting gift". Think they'll like it?
Awesome Logo ! Can I use it?
Heheh sure.

Yeah the gold farmers are running wild now. Sure there are ways to reduce the spam, but these are band-aids for a bigger problem. Does NCsoft condone this activity? If not then they need to get busy banning these morons. Sure there will always be a market for gold sellers, but you can do a simple google search to find them. People shouldn't have to put up with in game harrasment like this. It's not that hard to fight. GM creates a level 1 character and just starts swinging the ban stick.
If the multi-billion a year gaming giant Blizzard can't stop them in WoW, what makes you think anyone can? Gold farmers are like the cold virus, no one wants it, but theres nothing you can do to eliminate it from the face of the planet.
Giant Blizzard can't stop them, yet a single guy at home can make a perfectly working add-on that filters all the gold messages. You simply don't get a single gold message using that filter.
So giant Blizzard really doesn't want to stop them. Neither does NCsoft.
Offer to sell in-game currency like CCP does with EvE online and match the market price so no one is going to buy it off the gold farmers. It's the only way to stop it. You get more money since players are now paying your company for the gold rather than some Chinese guy, and your playerbase is free of the constant spam.
I'm not sure NcSoft realizes the scope of this problem.
Now that I can get right on to my server since there are no longer queues (I'm thinking this is a good thing?), my first few minutes are spent blocking all the obvious goldsellers (you know who you are, asdufiudfiujk) and then blocking all the people who went to the site to claim their 'free' gifts from NcSoft and all they had to do was enter their username and password, and then I block all the people talking about wow, or Obama or my mom and then I'm sort of ready to play
Crap, I forgot to /anon and am getting whispers from more gold sellers so I need another few minutes to block those jerks.
Wow, something I put up sold in the AH! Woot. Go pick that up.
Ok, ready to check my quest journals and mark the quests I want to finish tonight. Unfortunately, that's all the time I have tonight to play. I guess I'll try again tomorrow.

No one denies that other games doesn't have this problem (WoW included), but NcSoft has a history of not being very aggressive towards the problem.
Lineage 2 had one major difference from Aion (that I've seen so far) and that is, in Lineage 2, crafted gear was the best, extremely expensive to buy (was quite easy for your levels to outpace your ability to earn enough adena to pay for next tier set) and therefore was a botting/gold selling paradise.
In Aion so far dropped gear has sometimes exceeded quest gear, and I've not seen any evidence that I need some sort of crafted gear at the lower levels to succeed.
If no one really feels the need to buy it, they gold sellers will subside on their own and move on to more profitable games.
(I've not reached the upper levels however, and perhaps you really do need a lot of gold to thrive)
It's not only gear that people buy in-game gold for. They buy it simply so they never have to worry about money for *anything* they want.
Ya know I never understood that mentality. Why don't they just make a game for 15 dollars a month you spend an hour or two creating your character and soon as you log in you are presented with an armor/weapon shop that has every possible item you could find all for free that you just pick and equip and when you leave the shop the entire game world consists only of a rotating pedestal to stand on and emotes for /dance /showoff? Maybe I should go into the MMO buisness myself .,I think I might be able to pull that off pretty easily **** Sarcasm OFF!
I know you were joking, but there is such a "game" out there and it is very popular.
It is Second Life.
You make the toon, buy currency (Linden Dollars) and buy all the stuff you can afford from shops to make your toon pretty, rp compatiable, combat ready, etc.

Leave it to fanboys to ignore a serious problem their game has. NCsoft haven't done shit against farmers on lineage2.Heck you couldn't surive there without buying adena. If this game goes the same path ,and apparantly it ul be seeing a massive exodus soon
I survived and did well without botting and buying adena in Lineage 2.
