Playing EQ2 since it went public and I just cancelled my subscription.
Why? Well it wasn't doing "it" for me is the bottom line.
I played EQ1 for near 3 years from 99 - 2002 and at the end I had to give it up as the time I was spending on it was affecting my life. I loved EQ1 and it was so hard to give up.
So here I am over 2 years later playing EQ2. Anyone reading this should also read the review here on mmorpg.com in regards to EQ2, it was spot on to the way I was feeling. There are lots of things EQ2 does that EQ1 couldn't do and the graphics are the best, yet, there is something missing in my opinion.
I was in a guild in EQ2 and I was an officer/patron, we all helped each other, got great armor, weapons, money, experience etc. I soloed sometimes as well, I crafted, I harvested, I adventured to dangerous places and after 200 hours with 1 character and 50+ hours on another I was not excited.
I am not sure exactly what the problem for me was but I do know it was more than any 1 thing. I really wanted to love this game and I tried but it has dissapointed me no end. After the big patch I read the notes and NOTHING in the patch notes that I read made me want to login and try so I haven't. Adding more quests and zones is not the answer and as beautiful as the crafting system is by the time I got to make anything useful most items were selling at cost so all that time spent to get to a useful crafting lvl is wasted. EQ2 was easy to give up in the end which was a guide to how much impact the game had on me.
All I can say is I gave it a shot and the purpose of this was to let others know who feel like I do that they are not alone.
To the rest of you that love the game, good on you and I hope I can find something in the future that will give me as much enjoyment.

You are not alone,
we have a cross gaming board guild very full first month from our regulars that play in other mmorpgs
too. By end of first month half cancled and recuriting all but stopped when even the officers felt things were a "chore not fun". It is typcial that folks look at an offering try to get in to it and if they cannot leaving after first month or so isn't a bad thing.
Post twenty the game seems night and day different. Recently they upped the damage +30 mobs and it seems even regular mobs in 20s seem harder. We saw in 4 instances of storm hold over camping for the ac 3 armor quests and groups falling left and right, folks frustrated in main ooc and generaly not happy with current situation.
Things metioned as folks were saying good bye was exp shared debt, continue item repair (mender) costs of equipment, lack of coinage, or not being albe to leave pc on all night to sell due to "family pc"
time constraints, finding mobs, and the time it took in a few hour session and exp shared debt stating ratio to fun out weighed by costs of game maintence.
One paladin tickled bout getting there steed commented on dissapointment it did not gallop???
i am not sure if it is the design, the maintence, the got to dos ,before fun, or other core designs, but this offering has its strong points and also issues.
