A thread today provided a link about the cash shop in CO. What the spokesman in the link had to say seemed to point to a cash shop in STO as well. Does anyone have a source as to if a cash shop will be implemented in STO or not?

No, There has been no official confirmation of a cash shop in STO as of yet. Everyone is assuming there will be one as this seems to be Cryptic's new philosophy. The cash shop in CO seems to be only cosmetic items and as long as STOs is the same I don't really have a problem with it. The uproar from the community will come if they put anything in there that unbalances the game but I really don't think Cryptic would be that dumb. They know they are already pushing it by putting a cash shop in a subscription based game so I honestly don't think they are going to shoot themselves in the foot like that. Only time will tell however.

Yeah, monthly sub and cash shops don`t mix.
If it happens in STO I will drop the game like a bad habit on a principle only.
I dont tolerate greed.

All manufactures have price increases on their products from time to time and i wonder if game companies are seeing MT's as an option to raising the monthly subscription fee. We will see where it all goes i guess, I dont care about the vanity items so much as the idea that once MT's are accepted the door is open for more.
If they make a good game money will come.
That`s all it takes.
There are 20+ mill MMOers atm.
Don`t make a sucky game and you will see more money then any mediocre game with even 100$ a month fee will ever see.
If company tries to find a way to get more cash going from their actual customers it means that they concede that their game sucks donkey balls so they try to milk it for the last penny as long as they can until they shut it down.
The only logical way to increase profits is by increasing sub count, and you do that by not sucking at the game development process and making an entertaining and fun game.

I've not heard anything on this front, but if there are cash shop's, it will be the final nail in my interest in this game.
I'm not a fan of cash shops in any form. I quit EQ2 over station exchange, I'll drop this game just as fast for the same reason.

I could see them using a cash shop, it might not be in the form of costumes, but they did say that each class of ship would have multiple hull designs so that every light cruiser doesn't end up look the same.
So they could include unique ship hull designs that change the way a ship looks, but not it's stats.
This game F2P or something
I haven't seen anything officially from Cryptic about this.
If it's purely cosmetic or account related, I don't mind.
However, if it turns out that you can buy extra weapons slots for your ships(s) or stronger Bridge Officers, then yup, I'd
have a major problem with that.
No, this game will not be F2P. They've said that if there is a cash shop (which isn't certain) it will be for buying purely cosmetic items. My guess is stuff like uniforms from a certain era...not sure what else would fit the bill as being cosmetic in Star Trek since everything is pretty barren on a ship except for it's registry name and number.
