I know theres going to be a 2 faction conflict at first, but i haven t seen much other then that. I m wondering if i m missing something, but is there any word of planet control or space station control? Or is it just going to be an enemy faction is near and go at it type thing. I hope theres control points etc. I m really liking the sound of this game

No idea, not much info about PVP released yet. Planet control and CP's would be amazing!
Waiting for Fallen Earth, World of Darkness, Old Republic, FFXIV
Planet control, space station control, shipping routs, it SHOULD all be present if they want to give an authentic Star Trek experience.
Your argument is like a two legged dog with an eating disorder...weak and unbalanced.
I don't want to ruin your fun or anything, but please don't get your hopes up for that. Every part of a game takes time to develop, if you want a rpg combat, flightsim, crafter, explorer, socialiser game, you will end up with something that is shallow in all respects. The team creating Star Trek has undertaken something I wouldn't dare to do myself. As you are saying, to create something authentic you would need all of this, but in the real world, money and time play the biggest role in what is going to be in a game or not.
The ship PvP is the main thing im looking forward to. We know there will be areas that are safe, and others that autoflag you for PvP, you can allways drop by cryptic and leave ideas in the big idea thread.

I hope that they do release more PvP info for STO soon. I'm mainly a PvE kind of guy, but appreciate some PvP from time to time to break up 'the grind.' I'm not sure if there will be player conquerable planets and stations, but I hope so. However, it seems (from the info we have so far) that may not be the case.
I think they should make the Neutral Zone player controllable, but that's probably just my Eve mentality talking. I do believe if they don't make the PvP interesting and worthwhile, then a good number of people will either avoid the game or leave after a short time. I'll probably will continue to play if that happens, but I'll reserve my final opinion for when Cryptic's PR cycle hits the PvP stage.
I'm hoping to see it soon too. In one of the first Ask Cryptic articles they talked about having territory/resource control. It sounded great actually.

They also said that there would be player made starbases, but they have since backed off of that. Hopefully they get back on that. That would make STO awesome and, if done correctly, would assure that I would play it for a long long time...

Player made starbases could be so awesome, it doesn't matter if they are fleet or solo controlled. You could use them as part of territory control in pvp, or just in general as your own personal starfleet outpost.
Yeah, but there's some real issues. How do you satisfy(to a degree) the simmers, and the mmo-players? Cryptic has access to all the surveys Perpetual did, so they have an idea what players want and don't want.
Plus, how do you balance the benefits and drawbacks of player-built stuff? It depends on the economy, and on advancement curves.
I really like idea of making the PvP/FvF type territory and resource control it's own little system:
You gather resources in the PvP areas, to make structures to help protect that resource gathering. There would obviously be a little more to it than that, but at it's core, it's that simple. It doesn't really effect the other parts of the game.
You could also do the same thing for exploration. Example; you find resources while exploring that are good for making probes. You also find races that are good at diplomacy that will help you in future diplomatic missions, or the likewise for dealing with spacial anomalies.
I like when there is some cross over. The systems seem too contrived if there is none. But, this general framwork makes things easier to balance and give each system some robustness.
I can't remember where they stated it, but they have hinted at fighting for control of regions (probably like the contested zones in WoW)
---- "Fate protects fools, little children and ships named Enterprise" ----
War hammer had an interesting style for contested zones.
I also wish the player bases come back. I would love to fight a few NPC's to keep my base alive.
Not very much has been said about PvP officially where i can see it, maybe i'm just not looking hard enough, but hey i don't mind. As long as i get to blow something up.
I think there are Three forms of pvp.
The Neutral zone - Pretty much the no-mans land between the two empires, You go into this zone and supposedly you'll be free game for PvP , The "All pvp is consentual" part would come in the in the form of "This is a very big section of space where bad guys will shoot at you, don't go here if you don't want to be shot at."
Then there is some sort of Resource competition thing? I've only heard hearsay of this so i'm not sure if it's legit or just peoples desires. The basic idea i get of it is that you're essentially fighting over resources which are vital to the war effort (Probably a wintergrasp type "take and hold" scenario)
The third form of pvp i know about is the "House Versus House" Combat. Again i don't know much about this, essentially from what i understand the various houses within the Klingon empire (Be they Player Guilds or NPC factions you can align with i dont know) Go to war with each other, ships and captains on the opposing sides can attack and kill each other. This one actually sounds pretty awesome.
I just wanna finish the post of by saying This -
It's almost 3am here, i am very tired and i have very poor memory. I'm pretty sure all three of these PvP methods have been talked about or mentioned on the STO forum, I'm 98% Positive that the Neutral Zone and the House Versus house will be in game. The resource contention bit i dunno.
If you want to know for sure i'd suggest taking a look over on the STO forums. You might have to dig a bit but i'm sure you'll find the Info.
Personally, I"m more PVE orientated, however, I'll occasionally "snap" and do some PVP.
If there are PVP sectors that a faction could win, I'll partake in it regularly.
I wish I knew more about the pvp as well. All I've heard so far sounds like it'll be in the neutral zone.
You are playing a video game. By definition that means you are not hardcore.
The neutral zone is static and open PVP. The areas just outside the neutral zone will shift alliance from Fed to Kling and back based off of PVP and PVE acomplishments and relations with the npc's in that area, It's also been mentioned that there will be Ground PVP as well but thats about it for details so far.

Just wanted to point out, Rekhan did tell us there are mines. He told us he likes to "circle of death" bigger, slower ships with plasma mines. Apparently he also cackles after doing that.
My interest in STO will be in the PVE. portion Star Trek in story lines is about heroic conflict , teaming, and exploration. That is what I am looking for. With this particular game PVP will be far down the list as I want them to get PVE play right.
There are other games with themes more suited to PVP.
Ah, such limited, narrow thinking. A game can be all those things and more, the developers just have to keep their focus narrow and work on a few things at a time and make sure those things are good before they move onto other things. Build the core game first and then add stuff to that core to make the game a complete experience for players.
Modern MMOs aren't finished at release, they do constantly grow and expand and improve. This game CAN be all those things and more if the developers have the will and the foresight to just make it so.
