The World of Warcraft rant thread

dreamsofwardreamsofwar Member Posts: 468

Well, its not really a rant, just a question/point id like to make. I know a lot of WoWers have come to play Aion, including myself. My question is though if your here to take a break from wow or even quit the game entirely why go on about it for hours in general chat? All ive been hearing is "OMG WOW SUCKS" and "haha LFM Ulduar link achiv" and all sorts, yeah it was pretty funny but the same spam for the next 3 hours was not. It actually made me feel like i was playing WoW in the end and made Aion simply feel like a WoW mod or something. What im trying to say is if your playing Aion to get away from WoW why spend hours talking about it and how leet your were on it? Your epeen does not carry over to the next game, as much as you want it to.

Some of you will say i should have ignored them or left general chat, well i was using general chat to actually find out some good stuff people were sharing about the game. As for ignoring these wow players, there simply was too many of them.

Might be better to pick this up another time when the WoW talk has died down and only the actual Aion players remain..

I honestly instigate a lot of the activity in /3 on my server; it gives me something to amuse myself with while grinding.

Were it not for people like yourself who get all bent out of shape when anything of another game is mentioned, I'd be bored out of my wits, so I guess I should thank you...

    I should, but I won't.

I think you have misunderstood me. I said its not a rant but a question/point. I also mentioned i am a WoW player aswell. Yes the general chat was entertaining but my issue was why bring the same thing up (not different things about wow) for hours. So sorry if you thought i was getting 'bent out of shape' but im not ^^

Alright, as for the why: It's something everybody can discuss and get offended by at the same time; if talking about oats, or cereal had the same effect I guarantee you that it would replace all of the WoW chatter, but it doesn't.

Just be patient.  I'm sure once these people spend a little bit more time away from everything they've known for the past few years they'll begin to see things a little differently.  Perhaps that's the most challenging part about leaving something like World of Warcraft?  Beginning new steps can seem a bit overwhelming at first.  We sometimes forget the time and dedication we put into something.

It was an exciting time for many of us that got the chance to come into the game in the very beginning.  They're was just something so special about it that in hindsight it probably should have been enjoyed more. The strangest thing in all of this is the premise that one has to find some "new" thing/game to replace the special place we've reserved in our memories, which is nothing more than fleeting moments that can only be described by the words "You had to have been there."

So, give them time.  They'll come around.

WoW is the touch stone for games. I mean, I've went into AoC / WAR and the like and seen, "FFS WOW PLAYER NOOBS", which always makes me laugh.

Face it, if you make a WoW-like game, you're going to have something to do with WoW involved in it.

Ya dude i hear exactly what you are saying,it bothers me the same way.

It is not just in Aion either, the WOW kids have infested MANY games, rape and pillaging those chat boxes as well.

I am also the same type of player,i read the chat a lot,no so much to learn, but i do that too,but i like to group up or help others when i play. There is always players asking to group or they need help with stuff,so i like to join in,but the chat spam is often horrible, borderline RMT annoying,if that is possible.

In several years playing FFXI even EQ2,i can say i NEVER noticed chat at all, there simply was none of that childish WOW chat.Early days EQ2 there was some whining of how they the vets did not like a couple changes EQ2 made,i think they were just mad because their EQ1 was going to phase out. However in both games it was pretty much clean chat with people asking for help or group play.

You can really see the WOW generation of gamer, they need help just picking a name for their player it is pathetic. How do i do this ,how do i do that, where is this where is that, they don't want to do anything at all for themselves.

Games that are F2P or offer free trials get to be the worst. Those WOW kids are obviously bored,so they hop on these freebie weeks and just sit in chat all day, never a thought to play the game and whine.

Every game I've tried, from RoM to WAR to AoC to DDO had this issue.

For some reason, trashing WoW is just a cool thing to do.

I think my favorite is "WoW is so easy" and the chats that ensue. Then, there is always some guy defending it. And it goes on for hours. WoW is not easy - it's just easy to hit level cap. Anyone who has played 1800+ arena or high-end raids knows that WoW offers content as hard or harder than any other game. In the end, though, it's just different.

I think the worst was playing Runes of Magic and listening to people rip on WoW graphics. I kept thinking "are my eyes deceiving me? Because this game doesn't look nearly as good as ..." never mind.

I usually just close general chat until it goes away.

    ------
Played - UO, FFXI, WAR, WoW, EVE
    Currently - Bored.

Typical wow player response "wow like game" what does that even mean, mmorpgs were around before wow and were better, since wow has come on the scene mmorpgs communities have turned into absolute cock. There was a time when mmorpgs felt like a world and people played and worked together, now its just about raiding and obtaining epics. how shallow the genre has become, but its perfect for the shallow generation of new mmo players.
