Quiting WoW. Aion or Fallen Earth?

OmgmuffinzOmgmuffinz Member UncommonPosts: 1

Both Games look awesome but Im unsure which one to start playing...

Aion looks like it has more potential being a traditional mmorpg, while Fallen Earth looks really fun and new but so did Hellgate London and that was a fail.

Just some random questions:

Being a traditional mmorpg, does Aion have the population to make it survive, instead of going the way of AoC and dying nothing to do?

How smooth is the gameplay?

Is there a good pvp system? something close to maybe WoW arena system?

Is there going to be new raid instances constantly implanted?

Are there classes in Fallen Earth?

Only thing I've seen is people with snipers killing kids...is this just CS with levels?

Is there a raid system? Is there traditional tanks/dps/healers or just a dps zerg?

Any other input would be amazing and any answers even more, thanks guys I appreciate it. Picking a new game is not easy :P.

You seem to not have read up much at all on Aion.  You need to do so before asking questions.  Aionsource.com is a good forum to read up on stuff like that.

Aion is the best mmo I have played in a long while...I have a level 31 sorcerer, and as I progress thru the game,it just gets better and better.

Unlike Warhammer, where you hit tier three and burned out,its the opposite here. It has dungeons, instanced and non, pvp,EPIC crafting and the servers are filled to capacity.I cant say enough about this game.

Negative side? Gold spammers...And a hyperinflated economy, but that will minimalize soon. Other then those two items, this game is just going to grow larger and larger. If I were you,Id get in on this game, the sooner the better.

Remember when you first started playing WoW ? That feeling of newness,so much to do,I gotta blah blah blah? Same thing here.

The character you can make just blows WoWs away.I logged back into my WoW account on Saturday, and I couldnt believe how bad those toons look..Its comical..Its sad..These graphics, these characters you can make look sice..Absolutely stunning..

Buy the game man..You will NOT be disappointed....

Are there classes in Fallen Earth?
No classes. Get points to put in stats and skills. They have templates, but you can built your character however you like (within the limitation of how many points you have)
Only thing I've seen is people with snipers killing kids...is this just CS with levels?
The PvP probably promotes sniping. That being said there are skills available to reduce its impact. I definitely would not say it's CS with levels.
Is there a raid system? Is there traditional tanks/dps/healers or just a dps zerg?
No raids. No raid function that I even know of. No traditional roles. Most characters will be Dps Variation+Flavor Skills.
Any other input would be amazing and any answers even more, thanks guys I appreciate it. Picking a new game is not easy :P.
If you enjoyed WoW you will like Aion, in my opinion.

I played both prior to their releases and I enjoyed Fallen Earth more. Despite that, Aion is a great game. I think it'd probably be your best bet unless you are fed up with everything WoW-like.

since no one gave a thought in my thread, here's my question. Concerning that tank/dp/healer and not dps zerg on-topic: There's nothing similar to a threat/aggro system in aion, that movement propotional stats might make combat more interesting (moving backwards -> +block +parry; strafing -> +dodge, running forwards -> +attack power; combo moves) but still, is there anything close to the threat management to not make combat so mindless.

well, your questions show that you haven't read up  at all on either game - I suggest you do that before asking more specific things. You can't really expect people to do the work for you. The time it takes someone to really do any of these questions justice would be longer than it would take you to quickly read up on the basics of either game.

Anyhow, since you are a WoW player, Aion is much closer to what you would probably expect from an MMO. FE is quite sandboxy and will feel very unfamiliar and probably even frustrating.

Really, Im tired of people hyping up Aion. It isnt anything special. As a matter of fact, if you take away the wings, its WAR mixed with WoW. Ive been with the game since the very first alpha type beta. I played Tabula Rasa when they closed it down so I got all beta access and major improvements have been made throughout the course of it.

Im currently subscribed to it and not pleased with the gameplay. Ive been grinding since level 20 like it was some F2P JRPG, example: Silkroad. Its getting tiresome and Im now just trying to make it to 25 so I can experience actual PvP before totally bombing it.

From what I understand, the game has great PvP at later levels (35+). In fact, it is the focus of the game which is why youll spend most of your time grinding up to these levels. From what I have experienced, PvP is definitely fun. I play a ranger and from what I can tell the classes are pretty balanced. Every class can beat every class if played right, granted some are very challenging and you wont normally find yourself beating (I havent been able to beat a casting class because their more DPS than a ranger). It isnt arena based, which is something I see as a plus. From what I understand, the contested territory (Abyss) has control points which each faction is to fight over. That is where the PvP takes place. You can actually gain experience by doing PvP so its well worth it. Just have to hang in there through the lower levels.

Aion definitely has the population to survive. However, the true test will be when people get to the final 10 levels and have to grind it out (absolutely no quests at those levels from what I hear). Level 45, for example, will take ~30 hours to grind through. If people can stick through that then Im sure itll be fine. NC Soft games traditionally do well, minus Tabula Rasa and Auto Assault.

Personally, Im actually considering switching over to Fallen Earth. Its fresh, new, and doesnt follow the traditional MMO types of clicking and casting. I know very little about it but from what I do know its just as promising but doesnt have the same hype behind it. From what Ive read, there is no limit to the class sytem. You will build your character so if fits your style of play. There are, I think, 6 factions in this game that are pretty well balanced this early on. There are PvP territories which factions battle and what not so its more along the lines of WAR in that since (if Im wrong dont bash me, I havent played WAR so I am unsure).

So, the choice here is if you want just another MMO with a great reputation for PvP (Aion) or something new, fresh, and a stray from the average experience (Fallen Earth)

Also, keep in mind, Fallen Earth is by an entirely new developer. With that in mind, understand that it is their first release and has bugs that will soon be fixed. Dont let that discourage you!

I have not played either game yet but unlike yourself I have read a lot about both of them. In my opinion Fallen Earth is clearly a far more interesting and complex MMO. It doesnt hold your hand or tell you where to go or allow you to pick a class and then switch your brain off. It doesnt have auto-targeting and no that doesnt mean its Counterstrike with levels. Its an MMO not an ordinary FPS game......which you would know if you did a tiny bit of research. It means you have to use your own skill rather than it being another "War of the Calculators" where you repeatedly click a few buttons on a hotbar in a sequence while you drink a cup of tea. Obviously the game isnt comprised of just dps classes because the game doesnt have any classes. Yes every character can do various amounts of "damage per second". Every class in Aion can also do some "damage per second" so I guess Aion only has dps classes in it too by that messed up logic. You can ally yourself with one of 6 different factions (or not if you choose) which has an impact on how you play the game and who your enemies are. The game ultimately builds up into a PvP experience the further you get into the game. There is a heavy focus on crafting as well and I get the impression that Fallen Earth is more suited to being a roleplaying game than most other MMOs.

Because of all these things I think you should go for Aion as I expect you will find Fallen Earth too complicated and confusing. As you havent shown any interest in reading about either of the games I doubt you will want to put in the effort to learn to play Fallen Earth either. Aion is an ordinary themepark MMO which eventually turns into a PvP game which you will find simple and easy to get into after playing WoW. The devs for Fallen Earth on the other hand seem to be trying to offer something a bit different from mainstream MMOs.

Judging by the questions you asked it seems pretty obvious that you are looking for and expecting another WoW experience and I expect you will be put off by Fallen Earth as it will be too different to what you already know. You also appear to be biased towards Aion already anyway. Aion has pretty and colourful graphics, sparkly explosions, linear gameplay and wings which you apparently cant use for a large chunk of the game until you get to the Abyss where you can then use them for a couple of minutes at a time. It looks like it has a fabulous visual character creator but virtually no real character customisation.......kind of the opposite of Fallen Earth. In fact the two games almost appear to be polar opposites of each other.

ps. Yes I'm a condescending tosser. Such is life.

Dont bother with aion its as lame as they get.take away the wings? the wings do absolutely nothing. Its not like wow where you can fly anytime you wish for as long as you want. You only get to fly a few seconds before you have to rest. The game is a boring mindless grind from hell.Even for a MMO its a mindless grind.

I´m kinda in the same spot as you, i.e. got bored of WoW and looking for something new. Got invited as a closed beta tester in the late stage in Fallen Earth and liked what I was managed to play. If you, like me, not only got bored with WOW but the whole genre of clones like EQ, RoM etc you would prefer Fallen Earth. It´s not a traditional MMORPG at all: 1. SCI-FI, 2. Skillsystem instead of classes, 3. The goodies equipments are made by player-crafters not dropped by mobs (at least so I heard), 4. FPS targeting, 5. Sandbox feeling.

Guess the list could go on but that is what I manage to mention. If you only got bored by WOW but like the style then I guess Aion is the choice of the 2, but I havent checked it out at all.

Fallen Earth, totally.  Don't fall into the Aion trap like I did.  It's the best looking mmorpg out there but once you get past the great graphics it's just another korean grinder.  The wings are a novelty only because of the limited use of them.

Fallen Earth is totally different than most mmos, skill points, FPS style, etc.  A really unique environment and probably one of the best best crafting systems in a while.  Aion's crafting is horrible.   I wasted $50 on Aion but at least it let me appreciate Fallen Earth more.

I was at the same decision like 10 days ago.

I thought, and as said that's only my opinion...

    Aion Pros:

    + polished

    + large company

    + cute graphics

+ will surely live for a long time

    + great character editor

    Aion Cons:

    - cookie cutter MMORPG, nothing really new

    - enforced PvP

    - low average age of players

    - lack of ways to customize your characters in the endgame

    FE Pros:

    + incredible crafting system

+ seamless open world, even the dungeons have no load screens

+ classless game, lots of ways to customize your character

+ realistic (ie horses must be fed, vehicles need fuel, enemies drop realistic stuff, your char can only carry a certain amount of weight)

    FE Cons:

    + tiny company

+ graphics are not top notch

+ lots of travelling ingame required

+ few different types of landscapes

    + character creator is lacking

In the end I went for FE. Not regretting it up to now. I made a "lets play fallen earth" video series on youtube, where you can check out the game if you want. www.youtube.com/watch

Let's play Fallen Earth (blind, 300 episodes)

Let's play Guild Wars 2 (blind, 45 episodes)

1, Gameplay in AION is as smooth as it gets for MMORPG's.

    2. The PvPvE system is the focus of the game. Do some research on the system. No it's nothing like WoW's arena system.

    3. I don't know how the game will develop in future content patches.

    4. Fallen Earth is not CS with levels. There's a lot of lore, and story involved in the game. The weapons you use is personal choice.

    5. I don't know about raids, but you can create your character to fill a dps or healer role, or both. Any character can have good defense with points spent.

    6. There aren't classes in Fallen Earth, but the game assists you with building your character if you know what kind of build you want to focus on (ie. Rifleman, Pistoleer, Vista). It is best to stick to particular builds, which limits the variety more than classes do, but nothings to stop you from gimping yourself if you so choose.

AION is an all around good choice, because it will have familiar gameplay mechanics, is polished, and has a balanced and sizable community. However, the game is very linear and grindy, so I suggest researching the class and role you want to fill before choosing a class, and then sticking with that class.

Fallen Earth might be nice for you, because it's a bit different from WoW and AION. For one, the setting is different, and for two, everything is craftable and the game utilizes an allocation of AP system to specialize your character. However, the game is still pretty much a quest grinder, but boasts a much larger world to explore than most MMO'ers are used to, and because the game doesn't pigeon hole you into certain roles and has a strong crafting system, people don't speak of the quest grinding as much.
