have a level 27 Elyos on Perento and a level 30 Asmodian on Kahrun...
Gameplay - It’s good, first 20 levels are fantastic, plenty of quests espically if you group up for the elite ones (Black claw for asmodians and Tusin for Elyos). After 20, not so good, you are going to have to grind out at least a couple of levels (even with the new area's), by level 30, that will slowly get worse. Plus side plenty of repeatable quests in the abyss, downside, plenty of repeatable quests EVERYWHERE.
At one point at level 27 for the asmodian side you get a quest where you have to kill 31 mobs, for 1 silver coin and 24k XP. In order to get a random green, you have to get 8 silver coins. "clearing the way"
Worse at level 30, one of the few quests at the new area gives you a measly, 7k XP to complete it. The average mob at that level will net you 12k for a kill. Why bother doing the quest? Kinah. Always Kinah, at level 40 your new wings will cost you just under 13 million Kinah.
Do a lot of instance runs, and you’ll be fine though. Just remember group quests - better loot. Solo quests - you’ll be lucky to get even a green item, unless it’s a special quest; campaign etc.
Money sinks abound in this game, but what will really make you wanna throw up is the daevna quests which start at 30. Not so bad to do the first one, and you get a nice blue piece of armour (having paid 99,000 for a divine lamp). Unfortunately, in order to do the followup quest for the weapon you must have the full set. She only gives out one quest. So either get the very very very very rare drops, and if you can’t use it, buy a divine lamp to change it. Or… level up 5 alts, to level 30, swop around.
While thinking of that, I was pretty close to hitting quit and uninstall.
grindgrindgrindgrindgrindgrindgrindgrindgrindgrindgrindgrindgrindgrindgrindgrindgrindgrindgrind
Support - non-existent, petitions (when they’re open, since they close a lot, no 24/7 support here) are pretty weakly put in, never enough room to explain, never sure if it ever gets sent - your petition still lies at the bottom of the screen even if the game tells you it’s been sent, so you have to cancel, in order to make a new one. Plus you only have 5 petitions, unknown whether it’s “by day” or “by week”, the support has never been open long enough for me to test it.
lets not even get into the whispers and gold sellers and bots (you can only report 10 of them in the field)...... just ignore /3, block often and you'll be fine:)
grindgrindgrindgrindgrindgrindgrindgrindgrindgrindgrindgrindgrindgrindgrindgrindgrindgrindgrind
PvPvE - The saving grace of Aion, the rifting is fun, but the real enjoyment involves the abyss. Unfortunately since the game is based around strategy PvP, the fights will be long and dull… rather than giving you the epic feeling, you’ll sometimes feel unstoppable and other times defenceless. It’s a zerg fest.. whoever has the most people WILL win. No skill involved unless you duel. It’s also ganking heaven. But it’s fun, and enjoyable.. If somewhat smaller than I expected.
The PvE part is fun, you'll get a lot of abyss points for the campaign Abyss quests (1000 a pop sometimes) although repeatable quests are actually good (XP, Kinah wise especially), you'll net on average 80 abyss points from them. 14 Abyss points from the same level of creature and about 7 points by being 5 levels above. (it'll decrease, no farming)
grindgrindgrindgrindgrindgrindgrindgrindgrindgrindgrindgrindgrindgrindgrindgrindgrindgrindgrind
Crafting - oh boy. Aether grinding, gathering grinding - all part and parcel if you wanna craft properly. Unfortunately with this system, you can succeed or fail, which takes around an average of 20 seconds each time. So if you’re making 100 iron ingots or 500 lesser elemental water, go take a nap and have something to eat. When you come back you might have 2 left to go
This comes into play when making armour, weapons, food etc since each time you have a chance to crit. I’d buy actual recipies though if you’re into armour-smithing or weapons, since criting 11 times on a grey to get 1 green. Whereas with recipies you usually begin with greens to crit into something better.
It’s a tedious chore with very little XP awarded or quests, better still you can do work orders, so if you want to skip 1-99, with no gathering materials to get to 100 you can with work orders. A small money sink but it means you can skip crafting all along and do it at 50. Without technically gathering anything below that level. (although you should, 25% of the quests involve gathering something for someone)
grindgrindgrindgrindgrindgrindgrindgrindgrindgrindgrindgrindgrindgrindgrindgrindgrindgrindgrind
Graphics - top notch, although rubberbanding will happen now and again. Mostly lag free though, and the areas are lovely detailed and fantastic especially gliding down mountains and fortresses. Camera needs tweaking one of the issues, is the pivoting, in order to move the camera while holding down the left mouse button you must aim at the ground, not the sky, or it won’t work. Abyss has more sky than ground, you’ll see the annoyance. The “smart” camera will also frustrate some people.
grindgrindgrindgrindgrindgrindgrindgrindgrindgrindgrindgrindgrindgrindgrindgrindgrindgrindgrind
Sound - Fantastic music although ruined by the Asian voices (especially the females), I know you can turn parts off, but really just mute it and play your own music. Far better experience ! (especially with the dodgy voice acting)
grindgrindgrindgrindgrindgrindgrindgrindgrindgrindgrindgrindgrindgrindgrindgrindgrindgrindgrind
Long-term appeal - I got to 30 within a week, I’m guessing after 3 months, the queue problem on any server will cease to be a problem. Some people will quit well before 50, while others will simply see everything the game has to offer. Unfortunate but there’s so much that feels missing, that you can’t help but wonder why they didn’t do more for the western market. Feels rushed for us, even though it’s been out in Korea a year. Could end up like WAR, although the PvPvE is superior in Aion.
grindgrindgrindgrindgrindgrindgrindgrindgrindgrindgrindgrindgrindgrindgrindgrindgrindgrindgrind
Overall - 6/10, some potential, needs less repeable quests [couple of hundred more quests] and little tweaks all over. Nothing entirely major, a new island for each faction would be ideal just to fill in the gaps (which they already did, but that hasn't worked for westerners as much as we'd have liked)
Most annoying feature - you can only put on 10 items at a time, at a broker, just screams poor implementation.

This is the first real good review I've seen come from this site. Not all the other troll BS. Well explained thoughts.

And I don't want to hear anything about "I don't believe in vampires" because *I* don't believe in vampires, but I believe in my own two eyes, and what *I* saw is ******* vampires! "
Well, that sucks rather hugely. First complaint I've seen besides the gathering one that I've always agreed with that I can sympathize with because that blows.
1. For god's sake mmo gamers, enough with the analogies. They're unnecessary and your comparisons are terrible, dissimilar, and illogical.
2. To posters feeling the need to state how f2p really isn't f2p: Players understand the concept. You aren't privy to some secret the rest are missing. You're embarrassing yourself.
3. Yes, Cpt. Obvious, we're not industry experts. Now run along and let the big people use the forums for their purpose.
If it makes you happier. you need to pay 45,000,000 to start the lvl50 armor/weapon quest, complete all the main questline, 449 in one of the crafting skill, and the material to make is rediculously expensive.
Technically warhammer is the worst grind of all game. I got a rr80 brightwizard. That is just a horible grind.
And take it easy. I dont' plan on getting lvl50 quest armor and weapon. You don't really need to get the quest items. But I think every quest is interlinked. To get the higher armor/weapon you need to do the previous. So you probably do need to get 1 of the lvl30 armor if you want the future weapon/armor quest. Don't take my word for it though, not 100% sure.
Just a review of your review. Its good yes, you place severe enphasis on the grind factor yet make several important points most might miss. You have been playing the game for 2 weeks total, with login queues, and still have a level 27 and a level 30 character. To do this you have to pushpushpushpushpushpushpushpushpush which will make ANY game feel like a grindgrindgrindgrindgrindgrind. Slow down just a little bit, go out and find a few hidden quest givers, enjoy the game just a little bit! Its not going anywhere, you dont have to be the first to level 50. It doesn't feel like a grind at all if your not forcing yourself to reach endgame.
(DISCLAIMER - The use of the word YOU in the above post is not directed at any one person in particular, but towards those who fall into the category itself - there is no personal attack here, neither intentional nor implied.)
I agree, take it easy and enjoy the ride. Do various things, hang out etc.

i didn't play for 4 days out of the 2 weeks, i have the usual 7 hours sleep, i watch my programmes "mock the week" etc, and my football although the recent celtic game was awful.
I went to the cinema 4 times (and the theatre once to see a comedian from mind the buzzcocks).
what makes you think i pushed? with the XP amulets from preorder if i wanted to grind a level, it took an hour after 20 (although at 27 it only got half way).. of course they've run out and i'm at 30 which is where the problem is now beginning to lie. Which is why i'm not playing it as much... (plus you get rested XP after 20 THANK god)
The problem was i HAD to use those amulets, and it still wasn't that much fun.... if i had pushed like most on my server i'd have a level 45 and a level 37 by now. I've been playing casually.
I stand by my review, quests dry up... you will have to grind although i'd hit the abyss before it fills up to get the mobs, better XP than the PvE quests (or really awful repeatable quests) with abyss points thrown in. At 30, well the XP bar has tripled and you really are looking at a mountain of a climb....but i'd rather grind mobs than touch the crafting experiance again
There's just not enough when you begin to hit the higher levels... like i said PvPvE is the games saving grace without that, i doubt as many would have played it here. The PvE is barely existent the more you level.
Amazingly within a week i got to 27 with an Elyos, then when Kahrun 30 with an Asmodian (i put that down to no 6 hour queues every minute of every day)

I would hardly call playing casually for 9 days and already having a level 27 and a level 30 a grind. Please don't tell me you're one of the /insta lvl50 crowd!
Also I don't really agree with the PvP being all mindless zerging. At fortresses, fair enough, you NEED the numbers. However most of the PvP involves small groups roaming around, and in this instance, believe me skill matters lol. Are you playing the game solo? If so then your experience is understandable.
9 days amulets (5) - 9 hour cooldown, gives +20% XP for an hour. (really cuts down the grinding time, and it actually scales with the +20% Rest XP), so that's 5 levels after 20, within 6 hours. Oh and within 1 day, you can hit 1-18 easily... without much pushing, takes around 1-2 hours to get to level 10, then a hop skip and a jump to 18 if you know where you're going (thank you CB and OB along with /1 and powerwiki)
Not done any crafting since Headstart, did it all in CB and OB, realised exactly what it was, and how to do it. Which is why i haven't touched it with a barge pole since.
nah i won't even be the first 100 to 50, and no i'm not playing the game completely solo (obviously not all my friends can be on at the same time i am, plus instances are spread out level wise)...and yes it is a zerg fest, luckily with ctrl right click you can bring up the location to chat. More you get the more the "small ganking" squads are wiped.
It's the only time you really see an elyos in the lower half of the abyss, when either side goes to their 25 levelling area and tries to beat on lowbies. Eventually so many other people turn up, wipe out the Elyos.. and that's it for another few hours.
Best part of the Abyss is usually around the middle where we share the same quest giver (an elm) although usually one side controls it for a while... gets bored grinding and leaves. Then the other side controls it... not seen much out and out fighting in that area.... just people legging it to their nearest "watchtower"
Rifts work about the same. The more numbers you press on the Elyos the faster you win, end off. Skill maybe happen during the battleground at 50 with 2 small squads in a PvE instance. But we've yet to see it, normally the squads from rifts appear whereever they appear... and we get numbers to destroy them. Always a numbers game.... yet to see skill. (unless i duel especially team wise in the arena)
To be honest if i didn't have the amulets or rested XP, slice the 5 levels of me.. seriously, i'd have a level 22 and a level 25.
I'm still playing it, the PvPvE with it's faults is still better than any other game has to offer. To tell me there is NO grind, and there is plenty of quests, etc. Come on... even the most stubborn Aion Fanboy can't believe that for a second... game needs more quests and LESS repeatable crap ones. (as much as i like killing 30 of the same mobs, 3-9 times for a single random green item, and enough XP to fill 1 small bar)
ignore the quest, kill 100 of the mobs instead of 90 for the first 3 coins... you'll end up with more XP, more Kinah and more greens, begs the question "what is the point of the PvE repeatable quests"

Nice review-I'm getting bored with the game which I'm finding too linear.
Um what are you talking about? Don't inflate your e-peen lol.
I wasn't defending anything, just stating the things that I've got a different opinion on such as lvl 1-25 in Aion being a grind, which is a joke tbh. These levels are only a grind if you've only ever played WoW IMO (1-20 isn't far from being WoW with another skin), and different experiences in the Abyss, seeing as you were soloing in the Abyss most of the time.
Also I never told you there were NO grind and plenty of quests, just stated the fact that it doesn't take long at all to get to lvl25, and up to this level at least, there are enough quests (although grinding is much more rewarding).
I like grinders usually. Aion not so much cause it's so shallow and narrow pathed. Every alt you make will repeat the exact same grind step for step. It got old quick for me.

you know what, you mentioned WoW.... there's no talking to you.

I think what alot of people are having a hard time with Aion is that most of their previous MMO experience comes mainly from more Western stylized games. Sure WoW has a larger world and maybe War does too. Having played L2 and WoW for a long time each I can say that eventually Aion's world will grow. TBH L2's world is too large for the server pop sizes and can feel desolate even years ago when the game was still much newer. The grinding aspect is much more common in Korean games and is just the way they do business. PvP in L2 is still far superior to anything in WoW or War, and although I havent gotten there yet, I would imagine that Aion will excell there as well. Aion is already much more user friendly than L2 ever was, and the player controlled market has not spiralled out of control as it did on L2.
The gold sellers spamming chat are annoying, but I imagine that will calm down as the newness passes from the game. I personally haven't seen too much botting on my server, but one can only hope it doesn't become the problem it did on L2. I have personally enjoyed playing my Assassin up to 21 with no true grinding like I used to do in L2, i.e. sitting in one area killing the same mobs over and over. I have been so tired of WoW that this is a really nice change of pace, and I haven't even joined a legion yet. People that hate pvp and want WoW style end game will probably not like Aion. That is ok, it was never intended to be that type of game. I myself relished the epic castle sieges of L2 and look forward to pvp in the abyss.
agreed as i continue saying no other game does the PvPvE quite like Aion, and it's the biggest draw... and although the Abyss was smaller than i imagined (especially the top layer), it is still fantastic potentional.
Once every small group stops running to the watchtower when a little outnumbered... by 50 though, i'm guessing even those outposts won't be safe for long. Abyss is worth every penny in the game.... and the gear looks incredible even if i just have the helm and shoulders.

my DP is full int he second one, because i'm handing in the first Daevna quest "for battle", which was to get your DP up to max after handing over the divine lamp. (which granted me a blue piece of the set)
Always group too, not enough mobs to go around for some of the quests there, plus added protection if the other side show up. A win win situation.

Talk about irrelevant. What does my mentioning of WoW got to do with anything?
Sorry for only agreeing with about 80% of your review, and for stating my different opinion and experience. If I had known the extent of your ego I wouldn't have posted here and annoy you, honest.
Ah well, take care!
Did the OP ever mention his class or i missed it..
anyway OP nice review, atleast this review give some idea. But come on 2week and u got a 27elyos and 30asmo(i assumed you are above casual player) czu other troll or QQer will qq why they didnt get to lv27 and lv30 by 2 weeks.
Let me see how many hr did he spend on his toon.
Lv1-10 take 2-3hr+, Lv11-15.. i think 6-8hr. then Lv16-20 probably 6-8.
Then Lv21-27 (i assumed it take 2-3hr per lv. So that is like 21hr.
So it take 40hr to get Lv27,
Talk about irrelevant. What does my mentioning of WoW got to do with anything?

yeah that's what my editied post pretty much stated, thanks for confirming to me, that you are simply a troll.. looking to provoke a reaction from me, then admitting it
sigh
when you grow up, maybe we'll talk more =]

I had a preorder with play.com, it cost me £24.99, that included 5 amulets each granting +20%XP from any mob for an hour (unfortunately they all had a 9 hour cooldown, which helped me in casual levelling), i then upgraded my preorder for £10 to collectors edition which gave a nice title and an earring which i have to say also helped my levelling speed.
In fact i haven't actually switched title just yet. I also saved £10, and got the preorder items too go team !
I'm a gladiator. It doesn't take long to get to 27, but without the amulets, i admitt i'd only be level 22, and 25 for my asmodian, i am in no doubt without the amulets i wouldn't be the levels i am now.....
the fact i no longer play my Elyos character - i couldn't stand the 6 hour queue's daily. Thank god they opened up a new server.... no Queue's yet, so i've actually been able to get on when i could.

What a dingleberry. This is a review. Reviews give opinions. He is simply stating his personal opinion. Intelligent people know how to interpret reviews. Complainers like you belong in the SWG forums.
