So obviously the ships are going to be a big part of STO -- and that's going to be pretty awesome and cool. BUT personally, I'm really hoping there will be a lot to do with my actual character and crew as well. I'm mostly looking forward to interesting away missions where you have to solve problems etc. So I thought I'd ask, what you guys are looking forward to more:
Playing as the SHIP, traveling through space and getting into combat situations commanding the ship...
OR
Playing as your Character/Crew on away missions and getting into combat situations like that.

Im excited about the ship gameplay, Ive seen the gameplay videos and it looks exciting on an epic scale
I think this is where it will stand out in the MMO community, especially since TOR will not have any at release
I'm most excited about the ship combat but I hope that the ground combat will be just as fun. They said the missions will be approximately 60% ship 40% ground.
I'm gonna have to go with ship combat. Space PEW PEW is the kind of thing I want out of a Trek game.
I've done both ship and ground combat in STO but the ground combat was still unpolished and unfinished so I can't really make a judgment on it. Ship combat on the other hand was smooth as awesomesasuce!
Just to ward off misinformation - this had not been officially announced and is merely speculation TOR may or may not have space content - and if it does, no one knows the extent of that space content right now publically.
BOYCOTTING EA / ORIGIN going forward.
For some reason I believe Star Trek Online won't go to deep with it's character gameplay but will do well with the combat, puzzle solving and things like that would be straight forward. I'm just going with what I feel all that I've read about the game seems to be pointing to.
Ship combat is the way to go....who does't want to shout "FIRE EVERYTHING!!!"
This is not a game.
Why isn't there a choice for both? Really I really am looking forward to the space based missions but jumping out with my Bridge Officers with my phasers blazing sound fun aswell.
Because it's a poll for which gamplay are you looking forward to MORE, thus asking for you to make a decision

I voted ship combat just for the fact that stopping a Borg invasion with a bunch of other players to me sounds like the coolest part of the game so far. But what I'm most interested in is the missions themselves, and the variety of combat you'll get in them.
Sorry but I'd have to vote both as well as I'm looking forward to both equally. I like that both space and ground are intertwined so you'll be doing one as much as the other. This is something that no other MMO has done before and should make STO unique among MMOs. The fact that you'll be playing two very different and diverse play styles in a single game sounds truly amazing to me.

Ship gameplay by a mile. The ships and space in Star Trek was always more interesting than what happened on land. However, I'm much more excited that we will have a combination of both intertwined with star trek style missions. THAT is what makes me excited to play this game. We've never had that before.
Currently Playing: World of Warcraft
Ship:)
Having both is just gravy:)
I agree with the other posters. The ground play is important as it will give breaks between the space part. I think the space game though will be where the more interesting epic battles will occur. At the same time the ground game is very important because it allows you to act with your avatar.
One of the major problems I had with Eve was that my avatar for the most part was simply a ship. The other good thing is that the ground play will allow for story elements while the ship game play in my opinion will be more tactical. Both of these together should make a strong MMO game. They both support each other.
I'm really looking forward to the Ship gameplay.
I would love to see an equal balance of the two and of course would hope that they implement 3d space instead of the 2d i read they were doing.
It is in 3D. What they are not doing it making it a dog fight like in Star Wars. That is not Trek. If you watch the gameplay footage, it looks very Trek and will let you know exactly what the space combat will be like.

This exactly, I think the game will play very like Potbs, almost identicly I think. Potbs is heavy on ship combat, which is on one dimension, since boats don't really fly. I think sto will feel very much like potbs, with hull integrity/shields on various sides.

It looks alot more like submarine combat. You can go up, down, left, right and a combination of said above, just no loops and flips.
While Hittingsmoke or Tamgros would be better to comment on this than I, from what I understand the game will be 3d in the sense that a third axis will play a role, it's just not as big as the first two. This makes sense, too. It's true that in space there is no "up and down", but it's not as if all directions are created equal either. Planetary orbits all go in the same direction, meaning solar systems are laid out more or less like flat "discs", and the galaxy as a whole isn't much different, with far more length and width than height. Why, then, should a basic X and Y axis not take precedence?
Yes, you can go up and down, and yes, it should add some complexity to the game, but most points of origin in a system will still be laid out in an X/Y plane, just like they are in reality, again, because solar systems are basically flat discs as far as planetary orbits. So from the sound of it, they have given an appropriate amount of consideration to Z-axis movement, no more and no less.
As for space vs ground combat, I think it's really the combination of the two that I'm looking forward to. I've played scifi games as a character before, and I've played my fair share of ship games in space, but never have I had a game where I could fly up to a station, hop out, and explore the inside. That's just cool.
I find the results of this poll really interesting due to the estimate given that the game will be 60% space, 40% ground experience... and the poll shows just about the same numbers for how people want it Kinda cool.
BOYCOTTING EA / ORIGIN going forward.
That's not neccessarily how much people want it, it's just what people will expect to be more enjoyable.
Make it so...
Well I'm looking forward to exploring new civilizations on the ground.
While I'll love my ship dearly its to get me from planet to station and such.
Now if/when they add ship interiors that may change my enjoyment level.
Especially if my ship can double as my home. I can dream.
