I'm going to play either a Blood Elf Warlock or a Blood Elf Paladin. Some basic pros and cons would be nice - as well as your personal experiences with the two. Thanks in advance.
BTW - The reason I'm choosing between the two is because when I played the game last time, these are the classes that I played the least of. So now that I'm re-starting I want something fresh and different. Plus, I've found that I really like both classes. This is the same reason I'm rolling a Belf.

Play Warlock now, as Cataclysm is going to dumb them down considerably.

Why don't you just make up your own mind? Do you really need someone else to make your game playing decisions for you? Or are you more interested in playing whatever is OP? Seriously though, you should have just stayed away. I made the mistake of recently going back to WoW only to find the same dead end content. So I've once again quit and don't have plans to pick it back up any time soon.
Depends on what you like more I would guess.
Do you enjoy doing melee DPS then go paladin. If you decide melee DPS isn't what you enjoy then try ranged DPS with a warlock.
I've played a Paladin for some time and really only know it out of your 2 choices.
My son plays a warlock and enjoys it.
Besides DPS and some utility functions, I'm not sure what warlocks do

I have to say, i usually play Paladin and i enjoy our versity now.. we can heal, tank or DPS (even if we get a few you know insults on our DPS lol) we do not bad.
Warlock, i played a premade one, and i was just amazed at the amount of things i had.. and could do. I really enjoyed playing as one in a test server (couldn't get enough). Problem was i was always "do i wanna level again".
come the next expansion, i will be going warlock, new experiance. But i gotta say, i still love my paladin.
it really comes down to, what you'd prefer, they are very different in almost everything they do....

no offense, but this kind of post really isn't needed.
I never asked any of you to make my decision for me - I'm simply making an informed choice
It sounds like you have a lot of anger against Blizz - don't take it out on me, seriously
Here you go. My second char is an pally so i know about them more than a warlock.
Pros for Pally:
- hybird .. you can dps, heal *and* tank
- best AOE tank in game
- up close & personal with the mobs
- free mounts
- great buffs
- high survivability
Pros for warlock
- pets
- utilities like summon + soul stone
- fight at range (pro for some fights)
Personally I play a mage for my main and I like mage as a range dps much more than the warlock. I like things going BOOM rather that high DOT.

If you want an informed choice maybe you should include what you like to do in a game. Personally I've rolled every class except warrior past 70 and Id say the druid has the best utility, bear tank, melee dps, caster dps, healer and If you get bored play around with an oomkin tank. Not to mention , tree form, cat form, bear form, travel form, moonkin form , aquatic form and flight form. Plus you can stealth .....
Well, unless I get a reply that changes my mind - I've decided on the Warlock.
First of all, because pallies sound rediculously boring to level. I mean, the playstye at the beginning is buff, and let auto-attack roll. What kind of fun is that?? Anyways, I'm also going with Warlock because it fits my personality more - and because I feel like all I've done in MMO's lately is tank (I realize that I could try a healadin, but I'm a terrible healer).
If I get fed up with the Warlock due to cloth-only, squishiness, or complete lack of melee capabilities (which are not things I'm used to) - I'll always have the option to try out a paladin.
warlock is challenging
probably one of the hardest in wow
It IS the most interesting class - until Blizzard dumbs it down in Cataclysm.

very true ,thats the class i loved the most in wow, even if its very hard to win with in pvp
Or does this text come only from people who normally play rogue, mage, fotm?
I'm also thinking of coming back as all the WOW Cataclysm coverage has got me interested in giving it another whirl. I'm very interested in Paladin but don't want to play an entirely boring class. When you guys say Paladins can now DPS, is it decent enough to keep things interesting as I'll likely be playing alone for the first 60-70 levels to catch up.

Lock is fun but the utilities people speak of as a pro is not necessarily so. It's more like you're everyone's b$%^& in a raid. If you're not in a guild where the raid leader will actually reinforce members having their shit together - then you will have a lot of 'i have to repair - summon me back, I want to get my gear for the token i just got - summon me back, people couldn't bother to use the summoning stone outside the instance- put one down. make me cookies, SS the healers as soon as CD is up (this part I don't mind as much, but it's still a shard for every 30 minutes you're raiding).
It's not a class breaker, but after awhile it gets old (imo at least) - whenever they plan on implementing that new deal where they supposedly will have what, 3 shards on them and they will replenish like a dk rune. I'm just not sure how long it's going to be - whether it was going to be sometime soon or not until cataclysm. Because I tell you what even with a full 28 shard bag, it's shard shard farm farm eveeeery day after a raid.
Both are great classes for levelling in PvE. Both have great survivability and will blast through the quests but very different play styles. Why not role one of each and see which you prefer?
If you're looking at it for pvp and levelling thorugh BG's to make it go quicker, Warlocks don't get OP until 50+ but after that are very viable. Paladins are strong very early, I started running BG's with mine from 20. The Paladin's weakness is gettng kited and an Affliction or destruction lock or frost mage are it's worst enemies.
The worst enemy of a warlock ...currently there aren't many if they are played right. Especially if the lock gets the opener. My lock is only 76 though so it will probably change after 80 once resilience comes in to it and my imba crits are watered down. Most of my problems tend to come from other warlocks, afflcition spec ones as I run with destruction.
